Practically everything he said was what I was going to write and respond with, but of course put much more eloquently....so instead of bothering with writing something very similar to his post...I'll touch upon some notes that I would like to bring up...that he didn't, or at least I think he didn't..whatever is held in memory.... what is this about that the speech wasn't made in the right forum? who are you to say that the speech was inappropriate on national television during and awards show? I mean Fi had something she wanted to say, and as Ethan put it, some small interview would not nearly have the same reach as an awards show that was promoted everyday for two weeks, on "Gen X's channel." I mean how else are you going to reach that kind of audience...practically impossible....and she had the guts to do it...how many people including everyone on this list would have the guts to say anything..let alone something off topic from the usual thank yous, at an awards show on national television? you know, all I'm going to do here is repeat everything Ethan said.....so I'll stop on that.... ....and to add a little bit to the drinking issue....as I've experienced and heard about...don't people usually tell the truth, what they really feel, when they're drunk? (or had something to drink)...sometimes you'd think you'd be more apt to trust someone drunk than sober...as it's much easier to lie when sober, because you're much more alert. Sure someone smashed might not come up with the elaborate sentences or speeches as well, but the truth is based in it, while someone looking to write a speech is going to go around the issue, and bullshit their way through it......so as far as I'm concerned, it itsn't really relevant to point out that Fi had been drinking that night....and probably the reason she even pointed it out herself was because of the negative reactions, so in a way to get her of the hook a little...."oh she was drinking a little bit..." and maybe she felt a little regret saying "this world is bullshit"...though I bet she doesn't now..... also I find it weird that now people are starting to critique the speech....those on the Fi list that is....last September all I remember seeing were posts about how they loved it, and how true it was, and how glad they were that she said it.....but now I think that after 11 months, and hearing other people's conversations, reading magazine articles, and what-not, with some negative implications toward Fi and the speech, they have altered their point of view based on public opinion...and that is exactly the opposite of .."go with yourself" and that, well, I don't know, not very intelligeable in my opinion......I know I've seen, read, and talked my fair share...but my opinion hasn't jumped the wagon....... guess that's it for now....LaTeR aPpLeHeAdS, Raffi "I guess I'm just uptight.." --Radiohead ------------------------------ End of apple-tree-digest V1 #34 *******************************
