"lostie" or Shawn (2) Where you're from? Too many places. Was last in St. Louis, MO for about five years. Now I'm tooling around in Madrid, Spain for a few. (3) How old you are? 32 and holding (4) Where you first heard Poe? Good grief... "Angry Johnny" on the radio in 1995. Did I mention 32 and holding? (5) What other musicians do you listen to? Like so many others, too many to count. OLD favorites include Depeche Mode, Deftones, P.J. Harvey, Beth Orton, Portishead, and Stereolab. New music I'm listening to includes Spanish bands Vanexxa, Canteca de Mao, and The Locos and other music from bands like The Knife, Bat For Lashes, and All India Radio. (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share. I've been mostly a lurker to the Angry Psychos and recently logged into my account on Repoezessed. I've always enjoyed Poe's music since I first heard it on the radio in '95. My CD copy of "Hello" has seen better days; it's worn and scratched from many years of use. Haunted still gives me chills. I truly love the influence of Spanish sounds in that album. It's tough to pick a favourite track from either album, but I know that I've often caught myself tracking back to both "Dolphin", "Beautiful Girl", "Five and a Half Minute Hallway", and "Lemon Meringue". (Hah, that was a bad joke, eh? But this, this will be a good song.) I'm currently residing in Madrid, Spain teaching English. - -lostie/Shawn ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 13:31:35 -0400 From: "Stephen van Vuuren" Subject: RE: INTRODUCE YOURSELF (1) Who you are? stephen v2 (2) Where you're from? A number of places. Originally Johannesburg, South Africa. Now in Greensboro, NC. Lots of places in-between. (3) How old you are? Oh god, just turned 40 this year. Do I have to admit this in public? I liked 32 and holding... (4) Where you first heard Poe? Also "Angry Johnny" on the radio in 1995. I could not believe how good the song was and went home immediately to find out who it was and bought the CD. (5) What other musicians do you listen to? I'm kind of all over the place but very specific in my all-over-ness. Rock, alternative, ambient, trance (e.g. Kate Bush, Queen, Ferry Corsten). I have always like female singer, songwriters, producers who not only write and perform but arrange and produce for a much more distinctive, personal expressive sound. Poe sums this up perfectly for me. (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share. I've also mostly a AP lurker over the years. I also have a curse that has prevented me from seeing Poe live. Missing the last tour especially was pretty painful but both dates with a days drive of me, once I was very sick and other a wedding of close friend. I'm also an indie filmmaker and have a concept sketched out about how to turn "House of Leaves" into visual form without mangling it as you usually have to when adapted a book, especially such a long, complex one. Hint, it's not a just a film, it's actually two films and two television series blended into one work. Would run about 10 hours. stephen v2 336-202-4777 www.outsideinthemovie.com "A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later." Stanley Kubrick ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 13:58:33 -0400 From: "Chris C. College, University of Dayton. Back when she first hit the radio. Instant fan. (5) What other musicians do you listen to? All sorts of stuff. Current favorite is Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand. Big fan of Mary Prankster too. My musical tastes are all over the place though. My Last.fm list is here: http://last.fm/user/cskaryd (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share. Quite a lurker. Saw Poe in Chicago on some street festival way back. Didn't even know she was going to be there. One of the best surprises ever. ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V12 #54 ***********************************
