First I run across an AP whom I haven't seen in YEARS -- one of his work emails got fwded to me. And now I find the Conjure One MySpace page, and it has a song with Poe's vocals. Has this been posted before? From the bio: Two singers from the first Conjure One album also return in the form of Poe ("Endless Dream," "One Word" and "Extraordinary Way")... http://www.myspace.com/conjureone bn [demime 0.97c-p1 removed an attachment of type application/ms-tnef which had a name of winmail.dat] ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jun 2005 12:27:55 -0500 (CDT) From: "Jim Hutchins" Subject: Poe-related discussion question I've been meaning to ask this question for a while. I'm really into lyrics. (Must be the former English major thing.) In Poe's "Wild", she says, "Tell me what you've come for Moving like a hunter through my back door Leaving the perfume of all you adore To die nameless on my floor Yeah, well, we both know that you don't play fair I bet you really think that you get me there." I can think of two readings of that last line. Either 1) He thinks he is able to score points off her in a fight 2) He thinks he is sexually satifying her, but he's not Which reading do you prefer? Me, I think Poe is so gifted that she means to leave it ambiguous so that either #1 OR #2 is equally correct. Isn't it interesting that the three best singer/songwriters of our generation, in my opinion (Anne Previn, Bonnie Hayes, Poe) are not necessarily the "most popular" or commercially successful? And all three are female? It's one of those things that make you go "hmmmm". - -- Jim Hutchins agile1@netdoor.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jun 2005 18:07:31 EDT From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: Poe-related discussion question In a message dated 6/24/2005 1:44:10 PM Eastern Daylight Time, agile1@netdoor.com writes: I bet you really think that you get me there." Really? I never caught that.. mostly cause Ive related that song to almost everyone Ive dated.. grr to them. Anyway, I wanted to respond to the following statement made by Jim: "Isn't it interesting that the three best singer/songwriters of our generation, in my opinion (Anne Previn, Bonnie Hayes, Poe) are not necessarily the "most popular" or commercially successful? And all three are female? It's one of those things that make you go "hmmmm". They arent the most popular because the majority of the population cannot even begin to understand why music like Previn and Poe is so good. This is going to sound cheezy, but I used to be a huge fan of Mariah Carey. When I was young, I used to think she was the best songwriter ever. And I dont know if its because the album has sentimental value, but BUTTERFLY, still, to this day, is one of the few albums I can listen to all the way through. But what is all this ISH she's been releasing after? Its total pop crap. I feel like she has the capability to write with way more depth, but being that "depth" doesn't sell, due to the overwhelming simplicity of our society, she would rather just make money. BTW, really.. what is going on with Poe? I NEEDx100,000,000 (and one more NEED) new Poe material! :) - -Sean ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V10 #70 ***********************************
