However, this is my opinion based on a lot of research and I'm sticking to it. I think the question isn't "hy the hell are we still fighting in Iraq?" but "where is the next target going to be AFTER Iraq?" and "why are we focused on 'democracy building' the way we are, and is it really what needs to be done?" With North Korea finally admitting they have nukes, they would be a logical target - which of course means that they won't be a target. The news has been carrying hints about Iran, which would make a skewed sort of sense since we already have them flanked on two sides. Where else are we looking and who's going to be next is the big question ... unless you believe that the political machine in Washington is done with the Global War on Terrorism. Regarding "democracy building," the US and western Europe tends to focus on bludgeoning adult politicians into adopting a western-style democracy, while Islamic governments and non-governmental organizations (a loose term since many of them have state sponsorship) are building Islamic schools, Islamic orphanages and a slew of mosques - all geared toward fundamentalist Islam and HEAVY in proselytizing (mostly from Salafist or Wahhabi branches of Islam). So, while we're going for an immediate, short term solution in our politicking, entire generations may be raised with the firm belief that the only acceptable political form is an Islamic state adhering to 7th century Islamic law. If this is true, then what can we look forward to? What's going to happen in 20 years when these generations adopt Islamic law in a number of additional nations around the world? A number of fundamentalists are already dead set against any rival form of government and actively work to see secular governments like the US and the UK overthrown. Take a look at Omar Bakri Mohammed in England at sites like http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/001715.php - or Alija Izetbegovic (deceased) in Bosnia with his nifty "Islamic Declaration" where he stated "There can be no peace or coexistence between the 'Islamic faith' and non- Islamic societies and political institutions" found at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/759885/posts to see what I'm talking about ... I'm not saying I'm in favor of the war in Iraq, nor am I saying that we need to eradicate Islam from the world or continue the fight to other Muslim nations - I do NOT believe this, nor would I ever say this - this is about much more than just the war in Iraq or the war on terrorism. What I am saying is the fundamentalism is of concern to the society we live in. If you're political, or you know someone who's political, take a hard look at what's happening and what the indications are for the future. Support platforms and politicians who have a plan to help other nations become peaceful from the bottom up - raising children with tolerance and acceptance instead of raising them with a fundamentalist view of exclusion and intolerance. The way things are going, it's possible that a good portion of the world will re-create the Dark Ages of Catholicism where the masses were raised to believe that the Church is the ultimate authority and that it was ones obligation to wage war on behalf of the Church - hence the Crusades, the Inquisition, etc. We may now realize that the Crusades and Inquisition were about much more than simple proselytization or religious expansion, but at the time the masses of Europe were firmly in thrall to the Church and firmly believed in such religious ideals. I know this was a long rant that's WAY out there from the normal rants you see on this, but it's something that's a hot topic right now and something that will affect EVERYONE's future. OK, I'm done now. Cheers, Jerr - --- Spidersrcute2@aol.com wrote: > > POE is out fighting a legal battle with the guy who > has the rights to her > music. One of them is a remix of Hello. Its very rock and roll, and she rerecordedthe vocals. The part where she sings, "Not even God take this long to get back ~ so get back." was rerecorded so good with such ferocity, I think it surpasses the original :D And the other is the rockier remix of Angry Johnny. Where she cuts out the verse "I can do it in the water, I can do it on dry land.." Does anyone know the official names of those tracks? Help :) - -S ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 14:24:22 -0500 From: Sharonda220@aol.com Subject: NPR Rant Since we're all ranting. Ok, maybe just me. I have to pee, and I'm at work and there is no one here. I know if I run to the bathroom my boss will call and freak out. The phones in our other office are down so I get a lot of cranky people calling here to set appointments. Its 1:27pm and I haven't had lunch yet... so I'm waiting for someone to come back so I can pee and leave. I hate my job but I was happy to come in today because my computer has been down a WHOLE FREAKING WEEK! And its STILL down. I have to buy a new motherboard. I didn't do any homework for my 3 online classes all week so this means I have to go to school and sit in the computer lab or try to pry my dad away from his computer. So, whoever was looking for their pants, I have them, and I'm going to pee them. Shari ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V10 #27 ***********************************
