It was an amendment that changed that. The constitution has been amended 27 times with the first amendment taking place back in 1789. Congress amended the constitution in 1992 to effectively give themselves pay raises. If youre for gay marriage more power to ya, please write your congressman, but before you start spouting off how you are offended by how stupid our educated people are? you may want to educate yourself first. This country has changed and progressed so differently from when the constitution was put in place. Im pretty sure people have a more open mindedness about more issues than you can think of than the mindset of 1776. My point is, the best way to make your point, is to do a little research and get your facts straight first before you present them to some one who is educated. Nearly like old times... So, some Poe news (or not): The Poe ball tour is kinda underway, in the sense that there's still no schedule put together, but the ball is being sent out anyway because of time-sensitive events. And as for the big deal over Danny Elfman having it, find a real, not downloaded ;P copy of the Anywhere But Here soundtrack. I really don't remember where Poe said it, but Danny gave Poe an reason for a social life and getting out of the studio while she was endlessly working on Haunted. So Poeball didn't have some random celebrity encounter, it had a 6 degrees of separation meeting. Plus, good name dropping points and all. Sign up for the Poeball tour if you want to meet it, and hopefully they'll get a schedule for just plain sightseeing for everyone done. There's some pics from the NY thing here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/repoezessed/ Yeah, yet another place for Poe stuff... I don't think there's pics for the anime con from TX yet. I could be wrong. There's pics of ShellE Productions with the Hey Pretty video Poeball up at poe.org. When I saw that an unfamiliar handle had won the auction, I begged to meet it before it met its new owner. Poe and Angie were kind enough to oblige. We did get vid clips, but probably won't be motivated to finish them up until at least MZD puts out his new book ;P so don't hold yer breath. Ummm...apparently there is a quick shot of Poe from the Apocalypse party during the E! 101 Most Starlicious Makeovers. I just checked for reruns and didn't find any, but I suppose it'll be on again sometime. And finally, someone talked to Cameron at a Donna De Lory show, and the report is that he's writing with Poe, and she still wants to do a band show in Cleveland. As for Donna, she had a baby, released a devotional album, and also an album of chants set to music, is on tour with Madonna again, and hopes to finish up a pop album soon. She and Cameron didn't do very many shows on their own this time, and I was disappointed that they didn't come to San Francisco. Hopefully they'll finish up the record and do a proper tour, even if I have to see them perform at a yoga center. ;) The albums are available at cdbaby.com, which I highly recommend. I really don't think there's been any music news since that Center of the Sun single last year. If there is news, make noise. It really is nice to see people here still looking up and around when the list gets poked. If you still need info, go look at poe.org and read old news, you'll probably find something new anyway ::) - --Michele ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2004 23:31:41 -0700 (PDT) From: Blair Emily Subject: Re: my dick HA HA HA HA HA! I'd like very much to address the idea of crimes against nature. I work in a lab, and one of my duties is to raise mice for genetic studies into heart disease (angry PETA members, I'm awaiting your flames). I have one strain of mice that is missing a gene for something called M-CSF... there are many effects to this, the most obvious ones being that the mice have no teeth and are unable to remodel their bone structure (this gives them an abnormal shape and domed skull). This mutation is a completely natural occurance, eventhough these mice are not viable in the wild. I guess that wouldn't be so much of a crime against nature. I also raise mice missing a gene for something called GM-CSF. It's a related chemical, only mice missing this chemical are not obviously sick, and only have some very slight lung problems that I can't even detect. This gene was removed in a lab so I guess it is a crime against nature to have them. I also recently started raising mice with a GFP gene in them, this means that under a blacklight, they'll glow bright green from all their cells... this is obviously not natural and even involves putting jellyfish proteins into mice. Clearly I'm in more serious violation of natural law than any gay man or woman could ever be... but you don't complain about what I do. Here's the best part though... my GFP mice recently had a litter, mom did what mother mice do sometimes when they have their first litter, she ate all but two of her new pups. Maybe infanticide and cannibalism aren't crimes against nature. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Efforts to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage foundered Wednesday afternoon in the Senate when the proposal failed to garner enough votes to stay alive. After final arguments by the leaders of each party, the Republicans mustered 48 votes, 12 short of the 60 they needed to overcome a procedural hurdle and move the proposed amendment to the floor. "In 217 years, we've only amended that sacred document 17 times," said Sen. Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota before the vote. "There have been 11,000 separate attempts." There is no urgent need to amend the Constitution now, he said. But Sen. Bill Frist disagreed. "It has become clear to legal scholars ... that same-sex marriage will be exported to all 50 states," said the majority leader, from Tennessee. *** The whole piece is an intersting read... I never said that it was outlined in the constitution or anywhere else for that matter. Unfortunately for me, I've an illness which has ravaged my memory so I'll have to actually look up a few things to show my point. Beg pardon if it takes me awhile to fully respond. camron lee wrote: Again, we have another uninformed answer. No where in the constitution is seperation of church and state outlined. It says that the government cannot legally force anyone to practice or not to practice any religion. Nowhere does it say that the opposite is not legal, that any religion cannot have any influence on the decisions made by the government. The christian church has influenced our country since its beginnings, and it does so now, although the left wing is trying to change that. BTW, did you know that whites are being discriminated against nowadays? Yep. It's considered evil to take pride in white history, but black history has it's own fucking month. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jul 2004 23:18:45 -0400 From: life in the so-called space age Subject: NPR Re: deeply saddened so mister lee, are you going to address the race issue toxicbrian brought up or are you just going to attack the handicapped? Mail - Send 10MB messages! > as for more terrors of religion affecting legislation and government, lets go back several years, you will all remember (at least parts of) these facts: The Taliban in Afghanistan The Taliban (also transliterated as Taleban) is an Islamist movement which ruled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, despite having diplomatic recognition from only three countries (United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia). The most influential members, including Mullah Mohammed Omar, the leader of the movement, were simple village ulemabIslamic religious scholars, whose education was extremely limited and did not include exposure to most modern thought in the Islamic community. Once in power, the Taliban instituted the Islamic law. The Taliban did lead a reform of the government, the replacement they created had lots of governmental experience. Many had training of ulema, learned scholars on Islamic Law. Things that are said to have been banned in parts of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime: * Reading of particular books * Keeping cameras without licence * Cinema, television, and VCRs (decadent, used for watching pornography, promotes non-Muslim ideas) * Internet (though users can log into uncensored ISPs in Pakistan) * Music * Promotion of non-Muslim ideas * Women without complete body coverings * Women working outside the home (except in health care when kept separate from male workers and patients) * Women going on picnics or to tourist resorts * Kite flying (wastes time, Hindu ritual) * Women being pictured (whether on the printed page or on a frame) * Women appearing on television or during public performances * Converting people from Islam (death penalty for Afghan convert, expulsion for foreign national) * Growing opium poppies * Forecasting weather * Although boxing was not banned, Afghan boxers were unable to compete internationally under Taliban rule, because the Taliban banned men from shaving their beards. International boxing rules require contestants to be clean-shaven. Practices Reported in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan: * Amputating the hands of thieves * Public executions * Shooting of prostitutes in sport stadiums * Shooting of murderers by victim's family, in sport stadium * Hanging or throat cutting of robbers, in sport stadium * Stoning of adulturous (married) couples * Collapsing a wall over homosexuals * Destroying ancient Buddhist statues prior to September 11, 2001 * On the advice on the Hindu community elders, who used to be disturbed by the police who thought them to be Muslims who had shaved their beards, on May 22, 2001, the Taliban issued an order that Hindus and other non-Muslims must wear a yellow identity symbol. This policy was replaced in June of the same year, by an order that Hindus were required to carry a special identification card. * Muslim men were beaten or jailed for shaving or excessively cutting their beards * Women were not permitted to wear see-through socks or shoes, nor to wear shoes that make noise when walking * Women suffer physical punishment if showing face in public * Houses with women present must have windows facing the street painted over so people outside would not be able to look inside. - -- did you change the world or your point of view? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jul 2004 02:42:52 +0400 From: =?koi8-r?Q?=F7=C1=D3=C9=CC=C9=CA=20=20=F3=C5=D2=C5=C2=D2=CF=D7=20? = Subject: [none] Hi ! Frankly, I'm disgusted. Since when did people become so freakin' narrow minded?? When did I return to my high school days? This list used to be a fun place to be - and although I'm not gay, I take offense to these comments. I'm saddened and frightened that this is the kind of shit that's being strewn around for my 7 year old daughter to hear, since I realize that this sort of crap isn't just in chat rooms and email lists. I'm concerned that we can't just mingle on a freakin' POE fan email list and all just GET ALONG. Why the conflict? Why the flaming? Does saying hurtful and unkind things make people feel better? Does it make your heart warm and fuzzy? Does disagreeing SPITEFULLY with someone make you feel more powerful? If you wish to fight, hiss, and spew hatred, why not start your own chat list with others who want to partake? Sure, *everyone* has a right to an opinion - - but why not be at least a LITTLE bit reasonable? Why be so sour and hateful? I'm sure that I'm going to get flamed by even saying any of this... when will it all cease? I thought I was here for the love of Poe and her music. At least squabbling about the Poeball made a little more sense.
