So I ask y'all what exactly defines a Poe fan? > This week, POE fans should contact their favorite radio stations and remind them to include "Haunted" in their Haloween theme music.... They might hand carry a copy of the CD to the station if they don't have it. They should ID themselves as belonging to the e-mail list and believe that NEW music from POE is lurking in the shadows..... an e-mail with all the above might be good... a mention of "House of Leaves" would be good as well as links to your favorite POE web sites. Subject: PR: the hunt for HoL As some of you may know, Ohio isn't the largest, or the busiest, or even the most popular state around. businesses don't boom, and the streets aren't a flurry or color from the rain coats people may wear... ohio just isn't that great. but, what happened to me yesterday makes me think that, even though there aren't many people, there is a fair amount of good people. I went to columbus, well, rather, i was in worthington, and ...i was "around" columbus. see, since i live out in the country, anything past bellefontaine or marysville is part of columbus. lol. well, okay, i was really inbetween worthington and dublin. there. i was with my father, the lovely time i spend with him once a fortnight, and he asks me if there is anything i want to do. i told him that i want to go book shopping, so he takes me to Half Price Books. that is ... the largest bookstore in ohio, i swear on my life... i look around, and i think to myself (five more minutes and,,) "i want to buy HoL." so, i look in the fiction section, nothing. i look in the horror section; nothing. i look in the mystery section; nothing. i look in clearance; nothing. so, i go and i ask a guy who was behind the desk and say, "i am looking for a specific book, would you be able to tell me if you have it?" "well, we don't have a computer filing system, but i can tell you where it'd be..." "well, i am looking for a book called House of Leaves. it is by -" "Mark Z. Danielewski. we are out." I ALMOST CRAPPED MYSELF! i didn't expect him to have even HEARD of the book, but i found out that he has read it, and turned someone else in the store to it. so, as i am leaving, i pass this girl that works there and says, "HoL is a great book!" "yeah, i know, i got about three hundred or so pages into it, but i had to return it to the library before i could finish it." blah blah blah, we talk about the book, how great it is, what our favorite parts were, for me from the parts that i have read, and we continue on for about... five six minutes. then i think to myself (again..."five more minutes and i'll be there.") "i wonder if she knows who POE is.." then, RIGHT AFTER that thought, she says, "have you heard POE's album "haunted"?" "HELL YES I HAVE! I LOVE POE! I LIVE POE!" then we continue on about POE and...god, yeah. it was great. but, in the end, i went to an old...used bookstore (that very rarely has new books) to look for HoL and i find it there, and to my surprise, it is new. not hardback, damn, but still two color, with red, as apposed to blue, and i bought it. a twenty dollar book for six dollars... that made me feel even better. doesn't meeting a POE fan just make you feel good? love you all wes Wes* "Through dangers un-told, and hardships un-numbered......" -From the movie Labyrinth _________________________________________________________________ Want to check if your PC is virus-infected? Of all places, I've been having that happen a lot in my NAMI support group. Once, I wore a POE t-shirt and a couple people approached me afterwards saying things like "She's so cool onstage." "I love Hello. How's her other album?" And so on. See? Literal psychos, such as myself, like her too! Snerk... A few days later I brought in HoL because everyone is always late in arriving and I needed a distraction. Just about everyone was asking me how it was. A good portion of those people had already heard of it through their friends. Oh, by the way... I'm in Ohio. Ohio is the uberpsycho state - You just have to look a little deeper. - -Bridget ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 17:26:06 EST From: Spidersrcute2@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: i miss you Sorry. Just been so busy with work and planning a trip to So. Cal to see my family that I haven't really been paying any attention to my e-mail. Miss everyone too. Especially all the flame wars. Hmm, what could we get going on this time??? Oh, did anyone else see Scary Movie 3??? I thought it was horrible. Funny, but not worth going to the theatre to see it. The whole scene with Pamela Anderson and Jenny Garth is completely stupid. I did finally watch 28 days later on dvd last night. That movie scared me pretty good. I didn't want to look out the windows after I'd turned out the light and gone to bed. Yikes! And the first time an infected came crashing through a window I jumped in reflex and banged my head against the wall really hard. That sucked. It's definitely one to see if you haven't seen it yet and would definitely be a good one for Halloween Night. I'll be at Knott's Scary farm for Halloween myself. Hope it rains soon, hope nobody on the list has lost their house or have friends or families that have lost their houses in the fires in Southern California this week. Hope that things settle down soon around here, it's beginning to look like '91 when everything was burning. Take care!!
