I disagree -- I thought "beautifulgarbage" was a brilliant album. I don't move much in Garbage fan circles, so I wasn't aware that the album wasn't taken to well by the fans. I'm more of the opinion that "Version 2.0" is the weakest of the three. Frankly, I didn't think that "beautifulgarbage" was too much of a departure from their previous albums, more of a natural evolution of the sound. - -michaela ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 12:43:52 -0500 From: "Jayson G." Davis" Subject: NPR...Garbage Hey psycho kins... I just had to post, primarily because I am a huge Garbage fan. I have to put word in for them. I have yet to see a group work so well together, and come up with such sublime works, and find the more I listen, the more I hear. Try it! Give the cd at least 3 listens straight through at once...waddaya mean "not as good as..."?? I try not to compare, but take each creative piece on its own. Incredible talent, and to work together so well, stands on its own. I personally LIKE shirley's torch songs, and find she can let the "girl" out better than anyone I've ever listened to, tender and gutsy all at once...I know it puts a butterfly soul out on the cuff, but its a nice touch...if only I could write as well !*sigh*...and it keeps things from getting redundant. Keep the mind open musically...for example,Evanescence...yeah ok, fine...but very very redundant...yikes rock on.... Bonnie D.(aka lucyshoes) Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous... (Einstein) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 17:58:02 -0500 From: "Jessica Lewis" Subject: NPR Garbage I have been a Garbage fan for 6 years and I LOVE the first album, most of the second album (except for when I grow up and special), and every b side until the ones they released with the BG singles. But the third album... I like most of the songs on the album but a few are too out there for me or just plain suck (Untouchable has been the only Garbage song I have not liked in any way). But it's not because they're different from the first or second album. Has anybody heard Soldier Through This? I love that song but it sounds nothing like Garbage or V2.0. I think Garbage is one of those bands that it's really hard to think of their general "sound" because everything IS different. They have a song for every mood and I think they would have made a lot more money off of BG if they had chosen better singles. I think Breaking up the Girl, Nobody Loves you or Silence is Golden would have been better. They would appeal to a lot more people imo which is the point of singles... choose the songs with the most widespread appeal while giving the diehard fans the other songs to listen to on the album they're gonna buy anyway. I think the reason I didn't like BG as much is because I had to "give it a try." I had to listen to some of the songs a lot to start liking them. With Garbage, v2.0, and most of the bsides I loved them the first time I heard them. Oh and I think Shirley looks 10x better with her beautiful red hair. She rocks, she is brilliant, and she is true to her music!! She has always written to please herself, with one self admitted exception that she has apologized for in the past. Sure I think Why Can't I is too pop for my taste. But guess what?? She didn't write it for me!!! She wrote it for herself and she was not afraid to cut it KNOWING that it might not please all her fans! Rock Me is total Pop as well, but with that cool twist that only Liz is willing to put in her music ... People complained about Guyville too! Something to be considered here, and not just with Liz, the same goes for Garbage, Averil, Alazi` and even tAtu and (holding nose from personal distaste) even the blonde sisters Bratney and Christina, is that they are ALL very talented at what they do, you may not LIKE what they are talented AT and that is FINE! Bet they don't like some of the music YOU do either.... but their sales tell you that some like them, and the worst of them is better then most of us could do! I learned what I think is a good lesson and I would recommend it to anyone... our tastes are so different from each other. Just as there are some Poe songs that are better then others, each singer is different, if you don't like her don't listen or support her, if you do give her all the support you can...but to rag on someone because YOU don't like her or don't approve of her as a person just is not right! Sure you have the right to do it and sure you will find many to agree with you regardless of your position, but always remember the theory of the wheel, it all comes back around! By the way, anyone that has the Liz Phair CD there is a link as part of the CD itself ( play it on your computer and you will see) .. that lets you download the EP comeandgetit ... Liz says for those unhappy with the pop sound she FELT like singing on this CD and want something more like Guyville will like the EP better then the CD. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 19:16:09 EDT From: Dan98908@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR Garbage In a message dated 7/31/2003 4:00:31 PM Pacific Daylight Time, texaskiwi@worldnet.att.net writes: > Oh and I think Shirley looks 10x better with her beautiful red hair Indeed!! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 18:28:58 -0500 From: "Reg" Subject: Re: NPR Garbage man, their b-sides are some of their best songs. u can argue that a lot of them could be hit singles if they were on their albums. soldier through this is a good one. 13xforever is my favorite. but if i had to rank the cds, id put garbage, then v2, then BG... but i love v2 so that should prove how good i think the s/t one was. - -reg - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jessica Lewis" To: Sent: Thursday, July 31, 2003 5:58 PM Subject: NPR Garbage > > I have been a Garbage fan for 6 years and I LOVE the first album, most of the > second album (except for when I grow up and special), and every b side until > the ones they released with the BG singles. Adrogony, Cherry Lips, Parade, Nobody Loves You, those songs worked well but with both the debut and 2.0 it was worth listening from beggining to end, if I were to cut out two tracks there i'd take out Dog New Tricks and Special (It still baffles me how that one became a hit) and replace them with Subhuman or Trip My Wire and Deadwood. I do put 2.0 right on the level with the debut. Liz has always been great but the end all there in my opinion is that nothing tops Guyville, and thats saying alot since shes put in some great effort. Think shes playing at Irving sometime in two weeks so that may be worth looking into. And since we're on the Women In Rock topic now, if you haven't yet go check out Jane Jensen and Luxx, two great artists I spun back in my college days who im now wondering if they've put forth any other albums.
