The only true problem I've had is the attack of someone we all claim to love to the point of comparing her to a prostitute when we know absolutely nothing more than a pass was put up on auction. I just don't think that's very fair to Poe... But I think we've now all agreed to disagree. There's some that think she's a money sucking whore, then there's the actual person who coughed up a couple thousand dollars for the pass. *** My reply*** Ummm, please tell me where I ATTACKED Poe. I would LOVE to read that. I really would. I voiced an OPINION. An opinion that went over many a head. Sigh! Some people just don't get it. . You did not read the definition I gave of a prostitute. I did NOT say Poe was selling herself for sex. I said that she was selling access to herself. That fits the second defintion of prostitute. Of course, you will not understand this. I am just attacking Poe. I am not a fan. I spread negativity. !! At least with all of this, we are discussing POE. Poe even mailed the list. We may not agree on selling access, but at least we are discussing Poe, not something unrelated. I'm rather divided about it to be honest. While I agree that in this country, we should all be able to have sex with whomever we want for whatever reasons we want, lets not forget what real prostitution is like. Real prostitution is not just a lot of cute girls, in short shorts, and glittery shoes, its also alot of worn, tired, bitter women with little in the way of options and less in the way of hope. Having sex with whoever whenever, OK. Having sex because you dont think you have any other way, not so OK. Or because you HAVE to have money, to pay the rent or feed your kids? Cuz you cant find a job? You need that money now. Right now, so you screw some moron for 20bux. You wake up the next day with no self esteem and alot of guilt, but you still need milk, cuz you spend that 20 bux on alcohol to numb the fact that you were screwing this idiot. Alot of women sell their bodies to feed an addiction of one form or another. And hate themselves for it. Being a prostitute is not having sex with whoever you want, its having sex with whoever wants YOU. Whatever slime wants to crawl on your body for a twenty. Its not caring enough about yourself or what happens to you, to care who uses your flesh. Not loving yourself, or respecting yourself. Its all good to be all open minded, like yeah go ahead do whatever you want. But the grim realities of it are that most prostitutes dont do it because they want to, but because they dont know any other way, they've run out of choices, or think they have. Now sure if we legalized it maybe alot of that could be minimized. Get these women some access to social services of some sort, help them gain a little self respect and love themselves. But maybe, we would also have alot more teenage girls who run away from home for the "glamorous" life of a prostitute (cause that is what it would be made out to be) only to find that its not so damn glamorous after all, but by then know of no other way to make a living. Having dropped out of school, with no education, hating herself everyday for screwing perverts and pedophiles and maybe a few good guys thrown in every once in a while for variety. Passing time waiting for the day when its just not worth it to take another breath. Smoking crack to make it all bearable, heroin, cocaine, meth....whatever it takes to numb the senses and forget what she does everyday. Thats what prostitution is...legalizing it isn't going to make the degradation, self hatred, hopelessness of it go away. A vast percentage of these women need help, not a blind eye to their misery. Now, to be fair, there are some few women who are prostitutes, and happy with it, and ok with themselves, not even remotely disturbed about their lifestyle. But I think its the smaller percentage. I have no beef with being open and loving and free with your favors. The key word here is free. When a price is attached you bring in all sorts of unsavory business with it. Because people will do all sorts of things to make money. Especially concerning sex. Force women into prostitution, drug them into it, coerce them. All of that takes place and would take place to a greater degree if made legal. Perhaps if regulated to the point of psychological exams to be sure of its being a real desire for sex with strangers, and not some deluded wish for self destruction, but who am I kidding? Thats not very rational is it? Again, people should be allowed to do whatever they WANT to do. But I dont think most prostitutes want the lives they have. Prostitution always has been and always will be, but I truly dont believe legalizing it is the answer. Enough, enough you're screaming....I can hear it. Stop preaching already. lol. Ok, off my soap box now. Nice to hear from you Poe, even if it was a one-liner. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 1:42 PM > > Question: Do you think that prostitution should be legalized in this country? > > xoxo Poe ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V8 #152 ***********************************
