I work at a record store and thought it was kind of odd my WEA rep told me Jewel's new sound was like Poe's...but hey, she knew I liked Poe...that's all she meant by it, right? Seriously though, when I saw the cover and heard the single, I thought "oh, she mentioned Poe 'cause they're trying to market Jewel as the accessible version of our favorite lady." Maybe I'm coming off to some of you like I'm speaking pure crazy...if I didn't at least MENTION this though, I would've been pissed off for some time to come. Thanks for indulging me, Sean ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 09:58:13 EDT From: LuvMeCrtny@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: Jewel... THE SONG Actually, to be honest, when I first heard the song, I thought it was Shakira. The beginning of the song had kinda of a Latin-esque type opening. I wouldn't say that she is selling out, but rather branching out to other forms of the music genre. THE LOOK Personally, I liked the folk-singer blue jeans look, but that is just my opinion. I still love Jewel, and will always. The video is "unique", but I guess it is one of those that has a message. IF I actually pay attention to the video, and not drool over her, I think I can figure it out somehow. Just my opinion. . . ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 11:32:56 -0400 From: "kelli helbig" Subject: Re: NPR: Jewel... My $.02. I'm more of a lurker on this list but I feel the need to add some stuff here. I saw the Jewel video and it seems to me that no one has taken notice that while yes, some of the shots shes all "pop star"ed out if you would actually watch and pay attention those shots are more like "daydreams" so while she may look kinda slutty its all about the daydreams.. at least thats what *I* got from it. Perhaps i'm mistaken but you might want to watch it again. If you noticed most of the shots of her being .. pop star-ish... are very much exaggerated. well thats my 2 cents. Figured I should add it. >From: LuvMeCrtny@aol.com >To: angry-psychos@smoe.org >Subject: Re: NPR: Jewel... >Date: Wed, 14 May 2003 09:58:13 EDT > > >THE SONG > Actually, to be honest, when I first heard the song, I thought it >was >Shakira. In two reports on injuries, both accidental and deliberate, the United Nations agency said they killed more than five million people in 2000, one tenth of the global death toll. Nearly 90 percent of injury-related deaths took place in poorer countries. Road deaths, totalling 1.26 million, claimed the highest number of victims, followed by suicide at 815,000 and interpersonal violence at 520,000. Wars and conflict ranked sixth -- between poisoning and falls -- with 310,000 deaths. WHO said age, sex, geographical region and income level all played a part in the distribution and incidence of fatal injuries. Such fatalities were twice as prevalent amongst men as women, the reports said. Three times as many men, for example, died in road traffic accidents as women. And men were also three times as likely to be murdered. Death rates from road accidents, burns and drowning were particularly high in Africa and Asia, and homicides were three times as frequent as suicides in Africa and the Americas. But in Europe and southeast Asia suicide rates were more than double murder rates. sp00k etc ... http://poe.org http://rocpic.com The Rochester Photo Giant without a K in it's name... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - --------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 00:48:30 EDT From: LolipopFailure@aol.com Subject: kpr evil mail i was on evil email looking at the possible domains...like youremail@ithinkigaveyouaids.com, or fatchicksinpartyhats.com and there was one @poesucks.com ...and the way the rain comes down hard...that's how i feel inside.... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 00:52:43 EDT From: LolipopFailure@aol.com Subject: kpr evil again i forgot to state that poe is port of evil on this site...but i still thought it was strange. ...and the way the rain comes down hard...that's how i feel inside.... ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V8 #102 ***********************************
