I've learned about news stories that i hadn't heard...like the grilled cat, and the kid with the firecracker/candles...remember those? I've gotten mails that were humorous and brightened my day, or i've learned something new about computers or the internet. i've gone on to tell my everyday friends something i learned off here. i (and maybe i'm just speaking for myself here) think this list would be mighty boring without the NPRs. Like mentioned, especially since poe hasn't given us much to talk about. *shrugs* eryn its easier for me to get closer to heaven than to ever feel whole again ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 09:28:40 -0600 From: "jayson g" Subject: NPR: COMPUTER HELP If anyone can help I'd be very appreciative... When I download movies off Kazaa or WinMX, sometimes they come out fine but MOSTLY they only play the audio without video. I've used Realplayer, Windows Media Player, and Quick Time and none of them work. Quick Time says something about needing a different codec to view it. I kind of understand what a codec is, but I'm not sure where or what kind I'm supposed to use. These are .avi files I'm trying to view. I'm fairly computer savvy, but compression/decompression stuff kinda baffles me. I just want to watch my videos. Can anyone tell me what I need to download to remedy this problem? Or should I just stop dl movies and buy the damn dvd like an honest citizen? Maybe send me a link or something... Hey! i am a chica in salina, kansas named nichole! i am 15 yrs young, goin on 16 torwards the end of august. i'm originally from connecticut, but i moved out here to the midwest in '97. i first heard of poe when i bought her cd haunted at target in the summer of 2000. my older brother told me he had a friend that listened to poe all the time in his truck, and that i might like her since i liked her kind of music. i loved her music! (still and always will of course) pretty soon i bought her first cd, hello, which i also liked very much! i also have conjure one's cd that features poe. i own the book haunted and i'm involved in many Poe communities on the internet. i've never gone to one of her concerts, but i sure would love to as soon as she has another one some where nearby. i like a lot of noisecore bands, such as johnny truant, and also jazz, other female musicians, and rocknroll. I'm glad i've subscribed to this community and hope to meet more people that share my interests in poe. Look for the DivX 4.2 codec, which just installs the codec...the newer v5.something is a whole player and a lot of other crap you don't need (which doesn't play all that well either). With the DivX 4.2 codec installed, WindowsMediaPlayer will play those movies better than the DivX player does. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Mar 2003 16:49:37 -0800 (PST) From: Robert Cobb Subject: NPR: Speaking of music and war "White, Discussion" by Live from Throwing Copper I talk of freedom You talk of the flag I talk of revolution You'd much rather brag And as the decibels of this disenchanting discourse Continue to dampen the day The coin flips again, and again, and again, and again As our sanity walks away All this discussion Though politically correct Is dead beyond destruction Though it leaves me quite erect And as the final sunset rolls behind the earth And the clock is finally dead I'll look at you, you'll look at me And we'll cry a lot But this will be what we said This will be what we said: "Look where all this talking got us, baby."
