[Divinity http://www.thismodernworld.com/weblog/mtarchives/week_2003_03_16.html#000342 They haven't explained how they're going to pay for this war...especially given that--unlike last time--there aren't a lot of other countries opening up their checkbooks. ("Coalition" seems to have been redefined as "countries which are not in active opposition," rather than "countries which are supplying manpower or funding.") But when you need some money to pay for war--and you've already promised your rich contributors a huge tax break--well, you can always squeeze disabled veterans a little tighter: By a vote along party lines, the majority members of the House Budget Committee passed and reported for a vote by the House a budget resolution that would cut $844 million from veteransb medical care next year and $9.7 billion over the next 10 years. In addition, the budget resolution would cut $15 billion from the disability compensation and other benefit programs over the next 10 years. Support the troops, indeed. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 12:58:00 EST From: LivTheMdns@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR:Re: Freedom Fries & PR:Where is SHE?! Yeah... because it was the troops that said "hey guys, we need a war... let's go spend the country's money so we can steal it from veterans and people getting disability pay!" If you're gonna blame someone, don't blame the troops, they didn't do anything but follow orders (which is basically their job). They're doing what's expected of them, they're being soldiers. They're fighting for our country (or as some of you think, they're distracting us from our economic problems etc.). Whatever the case may be, the soldiers are simply doing their job, and if you want to blame someone, blame the person who started the war. I am completely opposed to the war on just about every angle I look at, but I stand behind the troops all the way. Five of my closest friends are over there, fighting and running the risk of getting killed. The least thing we can do is support the troops because even if they're not fight for freedom (as some of you think) they're fighting nonetheless and taking a bigger risk than I know I would never want to take. For that, I respect and support our troops... and if you don't... I'm sorry but that's just sad. The point, I believe, was that it is a shame that our righteous (*sic*) government, in the same hour that they are sending the boys to war, is shafting them big time on the home front. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 23:58:53 EST From: KoiJamas@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR/NRR Wakeup call SHUT UP SHUT UP PEACE LOVE AND CUPCAKES SHUT UP. - -Bridget ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Mar 2003 01:22:04 -0500 From: iamtheher4u@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR/NRR Wakeup call I really didn't mean to point you out specifically (although by using your quote I guess I did) so I apologize for that. But I know that (around me at least) there are fliers by war protesters against the soldiers, many with lines such as the one I quoted from you (but waaaaay more harsh). I just find the fact that people don't support the soldiers who are risking their lives for our country disturbing. I live in a dorm on my college campus and a group of people went around and wrote things on everyone's message boards and put up fliers about how all the military does is kill and they don't do anything good, etc etc. So the next day all through my building just about everyone wrote in HUGE letters: WE SUPPORT OUR MILITARY. One of the girls actually had the nerve to erase the boards on my hall and I saw her doing it to my door and I asked what she thought she was doing touching my property... she just looked kinda scared and just walked away. Ironic isn't it? So ready to say something when no one's looking, but when confronted absolutely speechless. And another thing that's been going on at my school is that people are going around pushing the kids in the Corps Cadets, granted some of them are in some branch of the military, but most of them are not. I asked a guy in one of my classes about it and he told me he hadn't had much trouble (being that he's a tall, fit guy) but he said that "I see the people who push us as something simliar to punk kids pushing old ladies or mall walkers... we're not hurting anybody, but apparently marching in formation is offensive to some people." So, anyway, just wanted to apologize for picking your quote of the crowd, but I just wanted to express my views and what not since I can (go america) =oD. Oh, and to kiojamas... if you don't want to read about it don't... once you see the word war, or soldier, or any other word that just dont want to see hit that nifty red x at the top of the box. =oD Tessa ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V8 #63 **********************************
