That is a damned good documentary about the guy. He is maybe the most fascinating of all the seral killers. Or get "In Cold Blood". It is the true story of a very nasty murder spree which resulted in a newsworthy trial and the famous book by Truman Capote. It got an academy award too. Of course, you could always rent the most grisley of all the movies based on good old Ed Gein, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". He was the basis for Hannibal Lechter and also Hitchcock's "Psycho", but the chainsaw massacre is the most hair raising masterpiece of sheer terror I have seen (Tobe Hooper's film debut...he wrote, directed, even did the "music" for that flick. It led Steven Speilberg to hire him to direct "Poltergeist"). If that one doesn't have you on the edge of your seat from the outset, then you have nerves of steel. I am not kidding. After a graveyard gore fest right at the opening, you get a brief reprieve to introduce you to the main characters/victims...and then it goes into an unrelenting crescendo of utter horror to the very end. Of course it is pure fiction only loosely based on Ed Gein, but it has plenty of references to him. Here is a light skimming of the story of Ed. It barely touches on his infamous activities, but you can get a glimpse of him at least: the Abyss: Ed Gein http://www.slaytanic.com/extras/gein.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Sep 2002 06:20:22 -0700 (PDT) From: Carol Lewis Subject: NPR: sigor rus Hello all.... NPR Howdo! How are y'all doing this fine Monday morning? I do hope fine. I know that the Psychos are like a family. We can tell each other stuff without the fear of being criticized or that sort. Here is my dilemna. Okay. Today is the first day of my job. I am a office administrator--- receptionist/secretary/manwhore--- in a legal office. The problem is that I don't feel like working, or rather I don't like to work. I have the qualifications, and they offered me the job immediately. I know that there are a lot of y'all that would say that I should take the job, but the idea of work is just a weird one. I have worked briefly in the past--- as a Customer Rep. and an extractor for the IRS---, but "real" work is a hard one. Before being offered the job, I worked for a week with a oil corporation in the Billing/Accounts Rec. department. My degree (Associates of Business Administration) seemed to help, but I quit. Even my loving parents say that if I don't want to work, that I don't have to. They believed in sparing the rod, spoiling the child. They would constantly give me anything I wanted. I am not rich, nor was I born with a silver spoon in my mouth--- IF I was then I wouldn't HAVE to work. I'm the type of person who would pay for something, rather than do it myself. The "college" (one of them schools that you can get your degree in @ 2 years) was compromised of adults and young adults. When I would tell them my problem, the adults weren't sympathetical. They said that I am a "spoiled brat" and that working would make me more responsible. They were as harsh as to call me "lazy" and that sort. They were really harsh to me; they would tease me by saying that "hard work never killed anyone". My idea of paying someone to do a job, seemed laughable to them. They said that I have been sheltered/overprotected, and that I would be eaten alive in the REAL world. I'm not asking for pity, just advice. Am I overreacting or just being realistic? Can anyone tell me what to do? Before anyone says anything, I have seen that terrible movie "Maid to Order". They make that poor girl work!! NPR It could be you haven't found the one thing you are interested in doing and found a way to get paid for it yet. What hobbies do you have? I don't want to work but I can't stand doing nothing all day, I like to feel accomplished. I like working with electrical equipment so I became a electrician. The act of getting up for work sucks but when I get there I'm having fun and getting paid all day. A career counselor might be able to help. Office work might not be your thing, outside work might be. > > I'm not asking for pity, just advice. Am I overreacting or just being > realistic? Can anyone tell me what to do? The adult contingent signing in here ;-) I do think you're somewhat spoiled, only because at your age (i.e. out of college) you shouldn't be dependent on your parents for your support IMHO. However, you have a luxury that many persons do not, and that is the time to find your niche without having to worry about how you will support yourself while doing so. I do think that with maturity comes a sense of responsibility for one's self, and when you reach that point you would be embarrassed to admit you're living off your parents without gainful employment. Personally, work isn't my favorite thing, but it allows me to provide for myself. There's a great deal of self-satisfaction in knowing you can support yourself and don't have to answer to anyone else for where you live, what you buy, what you do for fun. But it all boils down to whatever works best for you. Follow your dreams, and good luck!
