They dont make too much money from albums either. I'd rather DL an album, from a band I dont know, listen to it, love it, and go to their show, and buy the album there if they're indie. they get more $ that way. I'll so much as hand em 10$, if its that much of an issue. First time artists get like, .50 from each album. That's not much. > > How much money do you POE lost because popel decided to download the Hey > Pretty remix and now buy the single or the album witht eh Bonus track. > concidering how much artists get per album...not too much. I downloaded the track, but i could only listen to it on my comp, so what did I do? I went out and bought the album. The mp3s for most people are only for use at the computer. If I like it enough i will go out and buy it, for portability. I own the majority of albums i have MP3's of. Just today I decided to go out and buy Dashboard Confessionals CD cause I DLed it and loved it and Dont want to burn it. I will go buy it, enjoy my legal copy and they will have a new fan. A lot of new fans are created by MP3s. And what, u have no Mp3s? > The about of your personal time your going to spend even just compiling > everything and burning them you would have already bought the CD twice. > Yap. Not like she said she was burning em. Maybe its for at home computer use. and really, if she likes it that much, she WILL buy it. Nuff said. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 17:32:28 -0500 From: "Bad Bender" Subject: Re: Music Download Help > Yeah its called getting ajob and buying the Album. > Srtist don't make money when you download entire albums or even just the > individual songs. I remember when this discussion was about Napster. I thought the artists got paid before they made the record, from what you seem to be saying they must get a check in the mail every two weeks based on how well the sales were. Strange how they can make a song, give it away for free via the radio on music video (free for the viewing audience at least) but as soon as it's put on a computer it's theft and they're not getting paid. In the year that Napster was up and free record sales went up, Lars and Dre mad a killing. > > How much money do you POE lost because popel decided to download the Hey > Pretty remix and now buy the single or the album witht eh Bonus track. > I know I rediscovered Poe because of Napster. I found all the remixes and the AP's through file sharing. I had a cd burner but I wanted the original so I went to CDnow and bought her first then second CD. She made some money from me because of file sharing. Wasn't Poe for file sharing? > The about of your personal time your going to spend even just compiling > everything and burning them you would have already bought the CD twice. > True, the cash transaction would be much faster but having the tracks in the order you want then in seems worth it. Also if you wanted you could throw some No Doubt in there or maybe some Garbage. It's not the burning of CD's that the problem (I don't think there is a problem btw) it's the sharing of said music. When music's value is not emotional, spiritual or thought provoking and it is lowered to a dollar amount, music will have lost it's value in our society. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 18:43:10 -0400 From: "Stephen A. Sure they MIGHT get paid before the make the record but the do get paid when the record sells too. When a song is played on the radio the station pays out royalties for playing that song. Its not a free ride. The radio makes money from selling advertising space and so on and so on. ALSO....other musical items such as usic videos....who do you think pays for those. Sure the money might come from the record company, but if the album doesn't generate enough money to pay for that said video....well there won't be a video. Do you think that it ends at that.......the tour, the website, the people behind the scene's need to get paid too don't they. That money is generated by album sales. So your not only taking food from the table of the artist, there is an entire staff of people at the record lable that need to be paid too. That money is also put into technology. I heard on the radio lastnight about a new format that is going to be heavily pushed by 3 major lables. Really cool too.....its a 2 inch ( I think it was 2 inchs) disk that can hold over 10 hours of music AND also store video, text and pictures...... See stuff like that isn't possible if it can't be funded some how. Welcome to the real world.....No one likes to admit it, but money plays a HUGH part of our socility, both locally and globaly. >>I know I rediscovered Poe because of Napster. If I were a true fan. Ok Mr.Ulrich. If I were a true fan I suppose I could also travel long distances to see concerts or buy t-shirts and stickers. I just like her music and her attitude, she likes her fans. I must not be one of those fans. I first heard Poe on a CD borrowed from a friend a few years back. 2 1/2 years ago I remembered that CD and looked it up on Napster, found Hello and Angry Johnny. I d/l the whole CD but I wanted the original so, as I said before, I bought it. I'll admit I'm not as hardcore about Poe as some people here but I still consider myself a fan. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 17:01:16 -0700 From: "nata lie" Subject: Re: Music Download Help i know that i personally lose sleep at night fearing that britney will starve to death because i didnt buy her cd. ~taliGet more from the Web. It shouldnt be about being "hardcore." It should be about being fans. Period. And everyone really needs to get off each other's backs. I dont know where anyone gets off saying that the liking of something can't be "rediscovered" or that any single one of us isnt a true fan. I am sorry, but thats bullshit. We are all on this list for one focal reason: to support POE, because we ARE HER FANS. And if one girl wants to dl some Mp3's who the hell has the right to say that she is wrong? If you dont like the idea of burning, well then hell.. Dont burn! its a matter of choice. So why doesnt everyone just chill out about it. She asked a question because she wanted some information. She didnt ask for a lecture on the ethics of collecting music. Just my opinion.
