Everyone else may want to hit delete now... Mark is credited for sound, additional camera, and an assistant editor for Derrida, a documentary based on the philosopher's life and ideas. Derrida's work influenced HOL and I am hoping that the documentary could provide some unique insights on deconstruction, to help understand Mark's book. Here's the website: http://www.derridathemovie.com/ The screenings are this weekend, as part of the SF Film Festival. Saturday April 27th at 9.15pm and Sunday April 28th at 4.30pm at the AMC Kabuki Theater. If you're interested in going please e-mail me offlist. - --Michele http://www.shellE.org/ Home of PsYcHovixen, Poe documents (including the Poe discography), Garbage and Poe trading, eXej, 12 Rounds, Mono, and Exploration Z: A Haunted House Of Leaves Alternate Universe ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 09:49:31 -0400 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: Re: NPR TV - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jess" To: Sent: Monday, April 22, 2002 8:09 PM Subject: NPR TV >Is it just me or tv absolutely terrible these days. I watch the Simpsons in little stretches, thats about it, unless there is cable available and they show Bevis N Butthead. I'd do some discovery channle and history channel if I had it. I might tune in some PBS, if I was aware of some noteworthy program. But pretty much I am not content to sit and watch, much as I won't go to see a movie unless it is to enjoy the air conditioning on a humid 90's F day. If I want to know something I can find it on the net. I have discussed with a few people, about how it feels to be so out of touch with current events, I mean, last I looked, there were big issues in this TV commercial I was watching, and seeing too often, that proclaimed that this particular brand of TOILET PAPER has less lint... I mean they played this commercial so often, it got me thiking, WTF is this lint isssue? Why do they make me think about that stuFF during dinner time? How much longer will it be unitl the commercial switches to showing pictures as proof that their TOILTE PAPER has less lint? I can't waste my mind on this shit, thats why I leave the TV off. P.S. Also thanks to the wonders of TV commercials, I thank my higher power that I was born a man, and have no need for a storage trunk just for my feminine hygine related products. You may think I'm kidding, but one of these days I may do a comedey routine and drag that trunk up on a stage, but don't expect to see me on TV. sp00k etc ... Wow, I see this has re-surfaced.... If I remember correctly Bob Barr was trying to accomplish the same thing back in '98-'99. He's been inundated with far more pressing issues than a "witch hunt". Here in Georgia its a recognized religion on military bases as well as in prisons. I remember hearing claims that Bush was going to be the "final nail in the coffin" for Wicca being recognized and given the same treatment as other religions if elected. While I don't think Bush will be able to do all that, I certainly think there is the potential for things to get tougher for those of us who are pagan/wiccan. Mostly, as was the case with Bob Barr, I think it is all talk. Nevertheless, I keep my eyes and ears open. Bad Bender asked "why hasn't the Wiccan community been more outspoken about this?" Unfortunately, at least in my experience with the pagan community here in Atlanta, we've been unable to form enough of a cohesive group that can agree on basic beliefs to really accomplish anything on a larger scale. Too many of us are too concerned with not being "them", or being associated with other "pagans". The Asatru (Norse paganism) community doesn't want to be lumped in with the Celtic pagans, who don't want to be lumped in with the Gardnerian Wiccans, who don't want want to be associated with the ecclectics. Things like that keep us from forming a large enough group to do much about things. As someone who's tried organizing pagans to do things such as blood drives, adopt-a-mile programs and what not, the phrase "herding cats" is appropro. It's been difficult to do so even with the group that I belong to! It's not that pagans don't do things like that, its just so many of us are paranoid about organized ANYTHING and prefer to do things "our own way" instead of doing things together as a group. Its in part due to a paranoia of a "authoritarian" figure telling us what to do. This paranoia does more harm than good, I think. This is a prevailing ailment with the pagan community. We tend to be a terribly unorganized community when it comes to joining together for things such as this that it seems we will always be coming under fire and having to be careful about "coming out" to co-workers and what not. Well, I think I'll end this rant here. Got work to do. I'll leave you with a link to a good site for information as far as paganism and politics (As well as just paganism itself) is concerned: http://www.witchvox.com Nine Blessings, Derek ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 12:20:31 -0700 From: "Michael Allison" Subject: MZD > Het Kaartenhuis I was doing random searches and I found this... http://www.boeken-web.nl/boekinfo/detectives/het_kaartenhuis.htm It's not German I know, I think it's Dutch. Does anyone know how to > translate it? Did Mark write another book I didn't know about? You're absolutely right. It's not German, it's Dutch, and it't the translation of the Hous of Leaves. The translation of "Het Kaartenhuis" would be "House of cards", (as in an instable construction of playing-cards, I don't know how such a thing is called in English). I haven't finished the translation yet, but I think it's quite good. It follows the style and atmosphere of the original quite well. If you do some more random searches, I think you'll also find "De walvisteen brieven" as the translation of "The whalestoe letters".
