Yes, I do appeal to your emotional states, as often these are > influenced by or will influence your moral values. But we cannot agree that You're saying an entirely different thing than you said before, now, though. Before you were trying to convince me that I'd change my mind if misfortune happened to fall on me personally. Basically, your logic went thus: 1. I believe that good and evil are subjective. 2. Person A rapes, murders, or tortures my mother, wife, or daughter. Assume that person A believes he is doing the right thing. 3. Since from person A's point of view, he believes he's doing the right thing, and since I believe that good and evil are in the eye of the beholder, and since he believes he is doing the right, good, moral thing to do, I have no choice but to respect his beliefs at the cost of ignoring my own -- namely, that someone has (indirectly) done me a wrong. Now, in this statement, as I understand it, you're saying that you used the fact that I am emotional as a cornerstone of a logical argument. That may be so in your eyes, but frankly, I'm lost at step 3. I think your problem is that you are arguing the situation from an objective point of view, while mistakenly representing yourself as arguing the merits of the case based on a subjective point of view. > we are even discussing the same thing, so... I was attempting to argue my case based on logic and a somewhat science-oriented point of view. If you're arguing based on a religious point of view then I agree; we should just agree to disagree and end the conversation here. I'd like you to think about something, though. From dictionary.com, definition #2 for 'faith': Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief. See Synonyms at trust. That's an interesting definition -- not only does that definition encompass belief in the absence of supporting evidence, it also includes belief in the face of evidence to the contrary. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 00:44:18 -0600 From: "j." The worst that could happen is that he doesn't know and/or puts you on the air (I'd strongly suggest not trying to sing the song to him if you want to avoid that..:) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 06:34:22 EST From: Prozackitty16@aol.com Subject: Goth Clubs in the SanDiego/L.A. area PsYcHoS, I was wondering if there were any nice PsYcHoTiC goths in the area that happen to go to some of the fetish/goth clubs nearby. I have an audition for a band (nothing big, just high school stuff) that has a few friends in it and their in need of a bass player, aka me. I get to do a few song by other people and one by me. I would love to do something of Poe's. In Oklahoma, variety is Ludacris, Garth Brooks & Nickelback play over & over on 4 different stations. Kudos to KSPI for supporting Poe. If there are any fellow Okies out there, feel free to back me up. Have a great day everyone.
