A group at Columbia University is attempting to test the theory of "Six Degrees of Seperation" through the internet. Their website is: http://smallworld.sociology.columbia.edu/ They ask you to enter a small amount of information about yourself and a person you know who will hopefully get you closer to a "target" person - they give you the name of a person whom you're trying to get in contact with, and you list a person who you think is closer to getting the message to who it needs to get to, then they count how many people it actually takes in the "chain" to get the message to the target. Then you explain briefly who that person is in your life (relative? friend? coworker?) so they can track who people are selecting. For example, I was given a person in Estonia, and I selected my sister to be the next link in the chain because I know she hangs out with several international students where she goes to school, and thought she might know someone from Estonia, so it at least would get towards the right country. Anyway, as a social researcher myself, I'd like to do whatever I can to support other social research, especially that which I find interesting, which is why I am passing this word on to you right now. At least check it out ;) - --Emilie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2002 00:13:45 EST From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: Poe Sex CD In a message dated 2/5/2002 10:30:09 PM Eastern Standard Time, MRPierce@mail.ifas.ufl.edu writes: > At the prodding of a fellow AP, I am publishing my Poe Mix that I > have had sex to....What would yours be? > Fingertips > Fly Away > Spanish Doll > Haunted > Wild > Hey Pretty(re-mix) > Rise and Shine > Rose is a Rose > Dolphin > Beautiful Girl > Junkie > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> So, which one was best? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2002 00:26:27 -0500 From: "aNfrey cHeng" Subject: NPR - Re: Thought this was a very worthy cause... hmm.... this reminds me of sixdegrees.com, which i haven't been to in ages... i wonder if it's still around. . . - --- anfrey cheng anfrey@anfrey.com www.anfrey.com - ----- Original Message ----- From: indigofaerie To: Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2002 23:34 Subject: Thought this was a very worthy cause... | | A group at Columbia University is attempting to test the theory of "Six | Degrees of Seperation" through the internet.
