That wasn't my impression. The compassion they have, the sensuality of the books, the love in their relationships, its always been there. I don't recall a single time that she ever defined them as straight, or even implied for them to be that way. I saw nothing of rewriting history. Marius' character has always been "bi", though with a stress on boys it seemed for a while, and he loved Pandora and Bianca, and felt he could have loved Eudoxia, and basically lusted for Zenobia. Armand swung both ways. Lestat and Louis are more "straight". (I'm putting quotation marks around them, because as vampires, they're actually angrogynous.) David was always gay, even in his human life, except with Merrick. It's all been complex, and even if you read Rice's earlier writings, you'll see that bisexuality and sensuality has always been a big theme in her books. The vampire books were always headed that way, but I don't think there was any stress on it earlier because it wasn't exactly important...though in Interview, we do see Louis planning to leave his beloved Claudia for the dark and mysterious Armand... And, since the first couple books focused mainly on Lestat and Louis, which seem to be the straightest of the bunch, there was really no reason to focus on anything "gay". You get what I mean? I can understand what you're saying about making her characters gay, for as the books go on, it seems all the additional "male" characters are at least "bi". But, I dunno, because once again they are androgynous, so they aren't really male or female, and therefore sexual preference goes for anyone. Where is she rewriting history? Well, I think those are all wonderful ideas. Why don't you do something with them besides using them to support your gripe? I mean, if you think those are better ideas, I challenge you to suggest them, or even organize an effort of your own to help support POE. I mean, that is why we are all here, is it not? We all love POE, and would like to see her do well, am I right? So go for it! Easy to complain, harder to make a change. As far as blocking pro-tool, I don't have the answer to that, sorry. So, get off the soapbox and get on a bandwagon, your own if you choose. We all have the right to vote with our feet, so to speak. We also all have the right to support our favorite (or one of our favorite) artist(s) in the way we think best, more is accomplished when we do so together, but there's going to be differences along the way. So be it, but rather than complaining, why not do something about it? I am a member, and haven't received too many e-mails about it myself, don't know why you are. Have you tried e-mailing her? No one said anything about them having no sexuality, and no one said anything about immortality. What you have are cop-outs. Our reasoning was that the vampires basically become androgynous due to a couple things: There is no need for gender roles, and procreation is entirely without sex and conception and all that. There is no question of "men" and "women" being equal or not. With no gender roles to fulfill, and procreation being on the "Kiss of Death" basically by one vampire, the whole idea of male and female becomes...unnecessary. They are simply living entities with feelings, emotions, thoughts, needs, desires, and they get what they can and give what they to each other. Just because Lestat is attracted to mortal men still having their sexualities, (and he was attracted to mortal women as well), (and another thing, it wasn't in every book), doesn't negate anything. So what? Gay people can still be attracted to straight people. The sexualities are different, but the attraction is still there. The vampires are still sexual beings, but they can be attracted to either gender. They are attracted to beauty, and personality. They are not restrained to one sex or the other, and since among their kind, the idea of gender is pointless...do you get it yet? Try reading everything a little more closely, ok? I believe the only thing I ever said was that the hormones weren't exactly there, and their organs don't exactly work the same. They still have all the feelings, and as Krod Knid pointed out, can still get wood. She is the assisting POE and letting POE do important things like make music. I know some of you have issues with P-O-E.com but get over it. That is the official POE site. When a "meet-n-greet" contest is run through the site, that is an effort to try to organize some of the chaos from the past. Back before the Angry-Psychos (and during the Hello tour as the APs were starting), the tours were small and virtually no one had heard of POE. 6 years later things have changed. While POE isn't a mega-star yet, she there is more demand for her time than one mortal can handle. If any of you have problems with the auction, consider that right now merchandise is one of the only methods of support that the POE effort has going. With Atlantic's departure, POE is walking alone right now. Every dollar is an important contribution to her on-going attempt to make music. More important than buying the album (and letting POE get her $1.50) or paying to see her live (about $3 per person at a good show goes to the tour effort), the merchandise profits go directly to POE's operation. Think about it, there is more benefit to the performer from your purchase of a T-shirt than from buying a CD and a Concert ticket. These funds make touring possible. I know POE is as important to many of you as she is to me. When we can't be as close as we were in the past it can be frustrating. Ultimately, we have to remember what the POE experience is about. It is about wonderful music coming from an amazing woman. Very few performers can claim to have had such an intimate rapport with their fans as POE has had in the past. She has given the APs the wonderful gift of her time to the point of exhaustion over and over again. This tour, POE was smarter. She gave the APs their time in the form of the parties before the Borders tour. The Depeche Mode Tour was a chance to advance her career through exposure to a new audience. There was absolutely no times in the schedule to rest much less do anything else. The Panteen Tour came on the heels of Atlantic bailing roared across the country with a numbing pace. This time, POE also didn't do it alone. Craig was there to protect POE from herself and others. Everyone who knows POE can attest to her devotion to sign autographs until her hands tremble. The second time I met her she signed autographs at one of my shows in the rain for 2.5 hours. That is dedication that you won't see from... [many other artists]. Craig has been wonderful in keeping POE healthy and somewhat moderated. And contrary to popular sentiment of the AP posts, Angie has also been a critical player in helping the POE operation succeed. I don't know Angie personally. I have never met her. All I know about Angie is what POE has discussed with me in the past. And based on that fact alone I am willing to put my trust in Angie. For me, it is a simple matter of faith. I know POE to be an incredibly intelligent woman. She doesn't make decisions without pondering the possibilities. POE directs her people and they in turn support her while providing the resources she needs to achieve the goal. I am told that Angie believes in the project and has worked toward making the POE project a success. Look I am not saying that she or any of us are perfect. Very few people get the chance to become rock stars. Most of them fail before they get started. Even once there is a little success, failure is always looming over the horizon. Until about a year ago, the Angry Psychos were a positive force supporting POE and encouraging her efforts. For lack of a better term, we were a cheerleading singing POE's praises. Now days, the list has reverted in a center to gripe about what is wrong with the POE universe. If things are so bad, leave. If you aren't here to support POE, leave. Go support...[another band]... that could care less about their fans (if you don't believe me, ask anyone that works for a... radio station). But if you still support POE, be positive about. Be constructive. The APs could have been ambassadors to world for POE. We should be out on the streets encouraging people to buy the album. We should be calling the indifferent radio stations and concert venues. With or without you, someday POE will realize her dreams. And when that day comes (and mark my words, it will), if the APs had proven to be a positive factor in the effort, I think everyone of us will have pride in that success. Thank you for your time. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 19:59:11 -0500 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: eYe am a SICK man... Thats right! Im a SICK PsYcHo!! I have to keep reminding myself that Poe and the APs have been tight for a long time, and it has only been the last few months that there was a problem. A while ago some money was raised on Paypal for Poe's gift. I am trying to work out a way that we can generate some cash for Poe as well. The CDs and tapes I have cannot be sold, but what I can do is give them to the Psycho that contributes the most money to the Poe Spring 2002 tour fund. It would have to be understood that you are not "buying" the CD or tape, you are winning it in our promotional contest, which was the very purpose they were given to me for. I can except Paypal, Bidpay, and Billpoint. I will make sure that Poe gets every penny except my direct costs of shipping and publishing the promotion. So I encourage you to pay WAY too much for what I sell and I promise you that I will tell Poe how much you contributed to her cause, unless you choose to do it anonymously. If Poe wants to give it to charity, she can...but we are giving it directly to her to show our continued support.
