I honestly have to say I like the album. Though, upon first listen, I was shocked and horrified. But, as I played it a few more times, it really grew on me. Not at all like old Garbage, which I am madly in love with, but its certainly good all on its own. It's interesting to see how artists have changed, and possibly even progressed in their recent album releases. I think everyone was trying new drugs or something. My big downfall of the year: No Doubt. WTF?!?!?!? Ok, nice try at doing the crossover thing, but please, don't make me vomit in the process. No offense to those who like it. Tori Amos did a cover album...Tool's latest was quite different than their old stuff, very A Perfect Circle and NIN influenced...Bjork actually released something that was fairly tame and sane...I hear Heather Nova took a turn for sell-out...Sister Soleil (an electro-industrial-pop type band) disbanded a while ago, and then the lead singer Stella came out with her dreadfully poppy commercial attempt this year...and there were others besides these and Garbage and No Doubt, I just can't think of them right now...damn...I had a growing list, too... This isn't all necessarily bad. I enjoyed every one of these albums, even the dreadfully poppy commercial attempt of Stella's (some of it, anyway)...except for No Doubt. And of course Heather Nova since I haven't heard it yet. Growth and change, as I'm sure everyone knows, is all part of being a musician, of just being a person. To stagnate...well, you know what a murky stagnant pond is like. Yucky. So, congrats to those who are growing, even if it isn't in a way I'd like. :) Black Dove PS- How is everyone? Lets not become hostile now. Since I know I am one that is being referred to as getting my merchandise right away, I will set the record straight. Depending on what, and when I order, sometimes it's in a couple days, but not always. If the item isn't available, or if a lot of people are ordering it will take longer, and the tracking numbers are automatic when the item is taken to the post office. (I do shipping at my job) Believe it or not, this is not a conspericy. No one is out to get anyone, and if everyone would just be patient, you will get your stuff. I think that beautifulgarbage is a great CD, but no match to Version 2.0 or their self-titled debut. Version 2.0 was a non-stop thrill ride with musical and lyrical masterpieces, whereas beautifulgarbage only has a few gems, namely Shut Your Mouth, Angrogyny and Cherry Lips. I think its definitely a worthy purchase, just dont expect anything too much or else you will get let down. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 20:18:54 -0600 From: "Jess" Subject: NPR: New Garbage album and Bsides Garbage had been one of my favorite bands for a long time and they're still one of my favs but their new album was a letdown but that doesn't mean there aren't some really good songs on it. I'm not really digging the Shirley rapping or whatever you wanna call it that she does on Shut Your Mouth. Androgyny has some okay parts but I'm not really into it. I used to not like Can't Cry these Tears but it grew on me after a few times. That Parade song is okay but not really feeling it and I like Untouchable even less. Cup of Coffee I can only listen to when I'm in a real mellow mood and Till the Day I Die is a bit repetitive and Shirley could have done a lot better with the lyrics imo. The songs that really got my attention were Drive You Home which is really beautiful (I wish I could sing like that!), Silence is Golden which I actually learned to like the live version I had gotten several months earlier better than the studio version but she kinda wails at the end... it's like listening to Robert Plant at the end of Four Sticks, it gets a bit annoying sometimes but doesn't ruin it totally. Nobody Loves You kinda sounds like James Bond kinda thing and is a really excellent song. Breaking Up the Girl (which is gonna be the theme for the new Daria mtv movie, why, speaking or Daria, did they have to start putting a plot into the show; it was a lot funnier before that Jane's boyfriend crap if anyone knows what I'm talking about) is pretty good and Cherry Lips is really good even though it's really pop sounding. The new bsides are okay although the ones for Cherry Lips still haven't hooked me yet. The album would have been even better had they taken Untouchable off and put Begging Bone (the And. bside) like they had intended to according to the studio dairies, I like it better than half the songs on the new album. Well I should stop at that, I always have a lot to say about Garbage, like I would about Poe but it's real easy to do that when you're talking about some one with actual talent. :D Jess ~Seems like I'm slipping, into a dream within a dream - Tool~~ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 22:55:29 -0500 From: "Conor Riley" Subject: POE PICTURES! www.conorcar.homestead.com go here and click on the ticket stub, you wont be disappointed. p.s. that is me and her on-stage during "hey pretty" and that is me and her in the balcony of water street music hall after the show, just so you know what i look like. haha. that one of me (when we're in the balcony) isnt the greatest but i'm with POE! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 21:13:29 -0800 (PST) From: tearinhand Subject: NPR: hope is a dangerous thing.. hope can drive a man insane I'm not really sure why I'm saying all this..
