It seems odd, that with all of the talk going on about censorship at p-o-e.com, that we should have it EMPHASIZED that there will be moderation of the new AP inc. offerings. I find this troubling for a couple of reasons. First, I don't think we should EVER censor the AP's . Time has proven that this list does very well at serving it's purpose, with no censoring done that I am aware of. It is also troubling that before it even comes into existance, we are already focusing on issues of control. Lets not forget what happend on #poe, when we spent forever trying to figure out "what if" someone does not behave. and in the end, we came to the conclusion that the only person that should have any say is Poe. You can't have something called the "angry-psychos" live up to that when you attempt to instill order. I think the current quiet mood on the list is reflective of this.... Also, how is the BBS moderator selected? If it is part of AP inc, shouldn;t it be an elective office? with term limits? and MULTIPLE members? See now Im trying to figure out what if.... At any rate I hope that the current AP e-mail list continues to serve the AP commuinty as it has Uncensored over these past years. sp00k etc ... Http://Poe.Org h Http://DigitalSter.Com You are absolutely correct on all counts. I have labored over this. We talked about it a bit in #poe tonight and I think that we have come to a solution, I would value your input. The ONLY thing that I felt inappropriate for the BBS was direct attacks on another. I did not want any one person to be the sole determining factor. What I HAD envisioned was three members of the elected Board that would serve as a committee to deal with issues on the BBS as well as if there ever SHOULD be issues violating the policies that have applied to the list since it was started and that, to my knowledge, every member of the Ward agreed to. It has never had to be enforced, and hopefully never WILL! But if you are going to have rules you have to have a method to implement them should it ever be needed. When the APs started there were a few friends, now there are nearly a thousand and in the future could be thousands more. Someday SOMEONE may cross the line! My feeling was if that day ever came (and again I hope it never would) that the post would be deleted, be it on the list or on the board. The reason for the deletion would be posted in it's place and the author of the message would have a couple days to argue that it was not a personal attack or serious violation of the rules agreed to when signing up for the AP list (and I mean VERY serious, something that has never happened yet.) Or the author could modify his post to remove the SERIOUS violation and repost it. For it to remain deleted ALL THREE of the elected Board members would have to agree this was SO serious a violation the message should be deleted. That is SOOO cumbersome, though workable. Tonight I think it was Aaron suggested a forum called Instant Karma. In that forum people could flame away, duke it out, do ANYTHING legal! If you didn't want to see that kind of behavior and you didn't mind the Karma you created you can post whatever you want. There has been SOME discussion about having a forum for discussions that MIGHT not be appropriate for everyone. There have been "ass fucking" threads on p-o-e.com that ended up musing about Poe using a strap -on on the author. PERHAPS, and I am not even sure about THIS, such a thread should be moved to an area that those who wished to avoid it could do so while the rights of the author could be preserved. Is there ANYTHING that should NOT be allowed to be posted? I think we could all agree on Child Porn, but anything else??? That is why I suggested a three person elected body to decide and the decision would have to be unanimous. Would it EVER have to be used? I hope not! But I feel that with us growing and continuing to grow that it should be considered. I value your opinion on this, as I do everyone's regarding ALL aspects of this new BBS. After all, it will be owned by YOU, Angry Psychos, Inc. ========Original Message======== Subj: New Poe BBS Date: 12/18/2001 11:33:53 PM Pacific Standard Time From: usscvn65@frontiernet.net To: angry-psychos@smoe.org Sent from the Internet (Details) Some troubling points about AP Inc, the new BBS, and censorship. Should we really expect them to keep everything we say up there? It's a board for the promotion of POE, not a forum for us to say whatever we want. it's not part of the 'free' internet, it's a corporate site. If you want to express yourself freely, use somethig that's community owned, like this list. if you want to help poe sell records, use the p-o-e board. i think we all want both, right? ben :) (hi, shell. happy christmas!) However, one of the "injustices" I complained about in my post was the blatant editing of certain Poe-related posts which changed not only the content, but the meaning of the authors' originals messages. I mean, where do you draw the line? And quite honestly, I posted what I did in an attempt to DISPROVE various "rumors" I had heard regarding censorship. I got a wake-up call as a result. Even if I were un-banned this instant, I chose not to return to that particular BBS for ethical reasons. pSyChO hUgS, Bren ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 07:15:29 -0600 (CST) From: jrswantz@core.com Subject: Re: Banned from Poe UBB??? [demime could not interpret encoding binary - treating as plain text] Well, for reasons I can't explain, I still have access to the site. I am really shocked that brendles lost her access. If there was one person on there I thought was relatively safe, it was her. I guess no one is safe. As for my access, I can't believe I am still on there. I not only participated in the thread that appears to have spelled the demise of brendles' login, but was really "testing" my limits this past weekend. I put in posts that I knew were "wrong" by the unwritten rules, only to log in 2 hours later and see them edited or completed removed. I think the only reason I can still get in is that there's a cookie or something on my machine (because I don't technically log in anymore). Part of me is afraid to log off and possibly lose my access. Another part of me doesn't care because almost all the fun of going there is now gone. Oh well, just my two cents worth. J.R. Hitting the log off button removes the login cookie from your web browsers memory & due to a corrupt configuration file on the p-o-e.com server you will not be able to log back in to re-create the login cookie. The UBB server is also currently not accepting new members, so once you are out you cannot get back in. I have reproduced this problem using two different computers and on several different web browsers.. That's my 2 cents worth. The actual virus IS the e-mail itself, since it gets you to delete a file that is a normal part of Windows/system...something to do with long file names I think. Anywhoo, if you deleted that file you should go find a place to download it again, and then put it back into the right directory (the one the "search" function found it in to begin with.
