Your little sis is sooo lucky!!! And I think that this will stick with her for the rest of her life!! I was happy to finally meet you guys, and I'm glad to hear you got home okay since I was worried with all the storms we have going on up here in No. Calif. I hope you feel better soon, I'll be up in Reno from Tuesday until Friday with my fiancee. We'll be staying at the Peppermill, it's his 21st birthday on Monday and this is his present. Now I'll just be waiting to see if you get your little sis to write on the list. That would be way cool, the experience through her eyes!! Later!! Tracie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 22:59:00 -0800 (PST) From: Jen Ralston Subject: NPR: rio volt i just got a rio volt for my girlfriend and so far, we are both pretty pleased with it. it is lightweight (lighter than my panasonic sport portable cd) and comes with a remote and two different sets of in-ear headphones. the windows software (realjukebox) is kind of infuriating--it rips the cds down into mp3s, but about 4x slower than itunes does on my ibook and after two days trying to figure out how to burn a data cd with it, i gave up and went to hp cd-writer since she already had that on her computer. but once you get all the kinks worked out with software the most awesome thing is that a single cd can hold 20 hours of mp3 songs! of course this varies depending on compression rate but that's a standard "near-cd" quality. and the display can show you the file structure of the disc to search for songs. i got it online at a2zcomp.com for $149. i also have a minidisc and i've never really enjoyed using it as a portable player except for the size (i bought it as part of a project i never got around to finishing to build a tiny portable sound effect recorder-- a to d convertors cost more than the mini disc player/recorder itself). the rio volt is definately more for the money than any mini disc as far as i'm concerned. but of course the coolest thing i got this week is the ipod. $400 for a 5 gig firewire drive that can store about 100 hours of mp3s. i had 400 titles on my itunes and it only took 3 minutes to transfer ALL of them to the ipod. took about half an hour to get half a charge on the battery (which apple says will run for 10 hours continously when fully charged). and it's about the size of a pack of cigarettes. weighs just a little more, too (like, add a zippo and you're there ;) ). ok, i'm done being a sound geek now. I want a regular portable CD player and I'm trying to decide which company is best. I don't care about the money issue because I want it to last a looonnngggg time. I believe that Sony is the best company? I don't like Phillips because the sound doesn't get LOUD enough and I prefer to blow my ears out until I'm deaf and I wasn't too pleased with RCA, so I guess Sony would have the safest warrant? Three models are available for around $150 and under - these pups are comfortable with the foam covers you can get for them, and provide a warm rich sound. Beware one thing - they are open architecture, which means you'll be sharing the sound with neighbors if you go too loud. I have the SR 80s and SR 125s. I was a contest winner so I didn't get to go to Miagis and meet everyone : ( But the girls that went on stage were awsome and POE was of course awsome. That pretty much covers the concert everyone else said it all. After the concert I went up to her dressing room and had my rose jacket signed along with the rest of the 116 dollars worth of stuff I bought at the show (POE said that me and the other girl who bought the dragon jacket were single handedly supporting her) and we got pics and I thanked Craig for doing everything he does for POE and for us because he really is a nice guy (I'm his savior by the way: ) hehe) then my boyfriend and I got back to the hotel and he gave me this clump of hair and I'm like um what the hell is this? A clump of POE's hair had gotten stuck to his shoe lace! So of course I kept it (ok so I'm a dork, sue me) and that was my night. So yeah POE is awsome and I can't wait for the next tour already.
