First, I am depressed because I have seen my last Poe show for the year. Second, I have a kick-ass cold, trying to become bronchitis, from standing outside for hours during the past week. But was it worth it? Hell, yeah! The Dallas pre-show gathering was the largest of the three Texas shows, and as the groups before, was filled with some of the nicest, friendliest and funniest people I've ever met. Shout outs to Manda, Matthew, Bill, Celeste, Alexandra, Daniel, Frank, Josey, Jobe (JR), BRIAN (finally got the name right after three shows), Kelly, James, Dannet, Charles, Megan and Michelle. Red Jacket was a departure from the other Texas venues, with multiple rooms and levels. The actual floor/pit area was sunken, and pretty small, but offered one of the better viewing areas. The balconies were also good, but I feel for the people stuck on the main level...the crowd was 5-15 people deep and only those in the first two rows had a chance of seeing the stage clearly. I got separated from the group and was on a balcony to the side of the stage. It turned out great, as I got to talk to Siggy and Daris when they popped out from the backstage area to stop by the bar. The club was packed, and Poe put on a great show as always. The set list was pretty much the same as Houston, but we didn't get the second encore of "That Day." However, we did get Poe doing MZD's spoken-word first verse of "Hey Pretty," so I guess it was a trade-off. Most of us AP's hung out for about an hour in the cold waiting for Poe to come out to the bus. Siggy stopped by and told everyone how much he loved the fans, which was sweet. When Poe finally came out, she was carrying a stack of bar napkins she had signed. Due to the time constraints, she wasn't able to do any signings (they had to make it from Dallas to SF in less than 48hrs...a daunting drive, for sure). However, Poe was kind enough to take pictures with the Dallas APs and to chat for just a few minutes. After Poe got on the bus and I said my goodbyes, I realized I had forgotten to give Poe the gift I had brought for her. I found Craig near the back of the bus, and asked him to give it to her. He said he'd take care of it, and was very sweet to me. I know he can be short when trying to get Poe to the bus, but the man is just doing his job. I think he's a nice guy with a crappy job, period. Anyway, my Texas Poe experience was just fantastic. I am thrilled to have met so many APs over the past week - you couldn't ask for a friendlier group of people. My faith has been restored in just how cool our members are. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future. mAd PsYcHo HuGs, Bren ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 20:06:52 -0500 From: "Andrea E. My name's Curtis, I live in Dallas and just joined the list after seeing the show at the Red Jacket last Monday. It's funny that one of the first posts I received was from another new member in Denton, TX where I was born and lived the first 40 years of my life. I've been on a mailing list for Garbage for years (hi Michele VR5 and any other trashers here) and so far this list seems very similar. I bought Hello when it was released because I loved Trigger Happy Jack, but thought the disc as a whole was too inconsistent to stand up to repeated listenings. I bought Haunted many months ago and, since then, I've listened to little else. I've neglected too many new purchases because I just can't take Haunted out of my CD player. When it does get ejected for a brief time, I also listen to Garbage, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, K's Choice, Letters to Cleo, Bob Marley and anything else I can get my hands on. My ancient history would include Beatles, Kinks, Dylan, BeBop DeLuxe, Springsteen, Clash, Buzzcocks and many, many more. I think I've covered everything in the "Introduce Yourself" section of the Welcome to angry-psychos e-mail I received except for other interesting info about me. I'm still married to my first wife, 14 years and counting even though she hates all the music I listen to. I made a living for over ten years as a bass player in cover bands and currently oversee installations of sound, lighting and video systems at bars, theaters and retail establishments across the country. Both my parents are musicians. My dad has played sax with everyone from Les Paul to Lou Rawls to Ringling Bros Circus. I was once spit on by Sid Vicious. I was recently landed on by Poe jumping off a balcony railing. I probably won't post anything this long to the list ever again.
