The moves come as parent company Warner Music Group (WMG) says goodbye to two executives, including producer David Kahne, who helmed Paul McCartney's new Capitol set, "Driving Rain." WMG has also shuttered dance imprint Strictly Rhythm U.K. and its Groovilicious U.K. subsidiary after just nine months of operation. Amos -- whose six Atlantic albums have sold 5.5 million units in the U.S., according to SoundScan -- is negotiating a deal with Epic. Her exit from the label is described as a mutual decision. Despite positive reviews from critics and fans alike, Amos' latest Atlantic set, "Strange Little Girls," is languishing at No. 146 on The Billboard 200 in its eighth week, and has yet to place a single on any of Billboard's airplay charts. Amos is on tour in North America through Nov. 20 in San Diego; 15 European dates begin Nov. 27 in Paris. Meanwhile, Collective Soul's manager, Farshid Arshid, says the group asked to be released with two albums left on its contract. The band, which will record its next album before shopping for a new deal, has sold close to 6 million units in the U.S. Its final Atlantic set, "Blender," opened at No. 22 on The Billboard 200 in October 2000; the best-of set "7even Year Itch: Greatest Hits 1994--2001" debuted at No. 50 on the same chart in October. As for Poe, manager Paul Fishkin says she was stunned to be let go since Atlantic had just picked up an option on her next album and was getting ready to release a new single from current set "Haunted." That album topped out at No. 115 on The Billboard 200 last November and featured the single "Hey Pretty," which hit No. 13 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. - -- Melinda Newman and Erik Gruenwedel, L.A.; Lars Brandle, London ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 13:01:19 -0500 From: Erik Schalburg Subject: RE: NPR - The Last Unicorn Eh, beggers can't be choosers. POE HAS A MEAN > GUARD BECUASE SHE's GETTING BIG!!! :) > >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> He isn't her bodyguard...he is like a road manager or something in that general area. Part of his job is to keep Poe on schedule for appointments and make sure she doesn't spread herself too thin. But he is VERY professional about it. Typically fans just want to have a good time with "their" star, but for a guy like Craig there is the whole business to consider...time schedules and such...as well as being aware of just how loopy fans can get when they are getting their way...they NEVER get enough and have no sense of decorum where their demands are concerned. After all, the fans don't have a next gig to get to or a meet&greet with sponsors, etc. My boss at Bogart's has a rep for being an incredible prick at times, but he is right most of the time too. If people who are working security leave their doors unattended fans WILL sneak in...and not just fans either...equipment can get stolen as well as personal articles of the performers and laptop computers and such of the production people...all it takes is one bad seed. And if security guys who are working the floor or the barricade get too lenient and cool the fans will walk all over them and chaos will ensue. I am known as one of the "cool" security guys by a lot of fans, but I have also had them get way too pushy about stuff I am not supposed to allow...they are like little kids who are in that "testing" phase, just trying to see what they can get away with. A lot of security types get the attitude that it is better to just be a prick about it than to continually have to redefine their position to the audience, who will put you on the defensive in a hurry if they sense a weakness. I suppose Craig has been at his line of work long enough to get a bit callous with regard to fans...that's why he is a professional who makes a living doing it. Just some joker off the street couldn't even begin to do that job. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 14:53:24 EST From: Prozackitty16@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR - The Last Unicorn OMG!! I would assume that since they released it in DVD elsewhere, that we would get one eventually, but who knows. The bad news is that the Germany DVD is region 2 encoded, so most US DVD players wouldn't be able to play it, and it's in PAL format, so US televisions (which are NTSC) wouldn't be able to view it. So, for the time being, it looks like VHS is the way to go. I was telling my friends about it, and at the time, they didn't even know what a VCR was. (I was only in Kindergarten at the time - this was 1982) We couldn't find it to buy, or else my parents were just silly folk that would rather rent a movie over and over, but we watched that movie so many times that I can't count. I guess it's a good thing my mom was (and is) a fanatic about the movie. BTW, does anyone remember BETA tapes? EVERYONE I knew had Beta at the time, and I thought my parents were uncool for having VHS when I was little. I remember Beta quite well, my folks still have one that they use today. Didn't Beta fail because Sony was not that willing to allow thrid party vendors to make prodicts for it, up until it was obviously losing to VHS, which, by that time, was too late. but i thought Beta had better quality though...oh well, moot point since there's DVD now! OK, not only did I meet 7 of the coolest people (u know who u r), I got 2 kisses blown to me while onstage by the Mistress, helped her stage dive, GOT PULLED UP ONSTAGE DURING BEAUTIFUL GIRL, got KICK ASS pics (which I will post later) but I GOT TO MEET HER AFTER THE SHOW!!!! I painted some jeans w/ poe balls song lyrics and stars and she loved them. I also have a pic of her and I together! OK, let me back up... TOE was good. Poe came on looking as beautiful as ever. Set list is as follows: Hello Wild Beautiful Girl Dolphin Hey Pretty Trigger WTW Johnny Haunted Fly Away Control (somewhere towards the end she did an accapella of That Day which was scheduled as a 2nd encore on the set list) Encore: Choking 5&1/2 Min. Hallwy She was incredible. Like nothing I've ever seen! She was just so beautiful and she rocked that place so hard! She stage dived twice, ran into the crowd and all around the club twice, pulled girls onstage (including moi) for Beautiful Girl, and just had the energy of 17 power plants! Amazing. There are hardly enough words... As for Craig... I was there to witness Craig. Seb was not entirely incorrect on his judgment. We waited in the cold for 2 hours, just about 15 of us I'd say. She came out and said she would sign everything but wanted to put on warmer clothes. She went into the bus and out pretty quickly. Let me state for the record that it was about 40 degrees outside. Not harshly cold, but cold nonetheless. Craig was out there in shorts, OK? While Poe was trying very hard to talk to the very few of us who stayed, he poked her and yelled at her EVERY 5 Minutes! "Poe, we have to go. Poe it's cold, get on the bus. Poe, you need to talk and sign at the same time you're taking up too much time. Poe, hurry up. Poe, I'm cold we need to get on the bus..." etc. It was just extremely rude. She ignored him as best she could and just shrugged him off. Seriously, it took her 20 minutes to talk to all of us. But you could tell she would have stayed for hours. She did not want to stop talking to us. But he continuously interrupted her and her fans while they/her were talking. I understand the man has a job to do. I understand he is responsible for her. But he should have shown a little more class and a little more couth. This is all I have to say on that. You be the judge. Anyhow, I had a great time and you could tell Poe was having fun too! Everyone who hasn't been to their show yet, YOU HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL TO LOOK FORWARD TO! She's not gonna like everything that we do and vise versa. My world doesn't revolve around Poe. I have a mind of my own and I can express my opinions if I want.
