Poe loves a;; of us, and this is just a 'formal' way to tell us that she wont have as much time for us this time. She's a busy girl. But we saw her outside her bus and she sat with a group of us for like an hour and was late to her sound check. I think Poe is fighting this as much as she can too. That's why as much of a pain in the ass as it it, she really does need someone like Craig aorund or she would just sit and talk to us, and miss her next show. That's just how she is. Hi, It's Rachel. Sorry this reveiw took so long, we just got back. The show kicked ass! She did Hello for an opener, crowed surfed like 5 times, tried to keep pulling people on stage, but the security kept pulling us back off (basterds) Her and Ziggy were as always so awsome together. I've never seen anything like what they have on stage. In Denver he managed to catch her off guard enought to make her laugh in the middle of Trigger Happy Jack. It was great. And the best thing of all was that she dedicated Beautiful Girl to Miki and I, and pulled us an stage. :) I had a great time and she is the best permormer I have ever had the privilage to see live. Oh, and 'If You Were Here' was not played. She told me last yeay that she can't do that song live. I think it's a little too personal, and she still would get choked up. I can understand that. Meeting her was of course wonderful. As soon as she sat down she jumped back up, ran down stairs and got Jeremy and I stickers, temporary tattoos (not that I need one) and Not A Virgin condoms. She talked with us till Craig made her get up, then she took pictures with us. Including one where she had us all scream as loud as we could. She said it make for a good picture. She was right. She signed the poster that I had made for all the AP's to sign, and complimented me on my vinal pants. hehehe, Poe liked my pants. OK, That's it. I hope to see you all again. In 1996, the modern rock hit "Angry Johnny," featured on her debut CD "Hello," coyly told listeners she wanted to "blow you . . . away." The L.A.-based composer, singer, producer and occasional engineer has returned with "Haunted," a new album she describes as "a journey towards intimacy . . . the composition of a conversation I needed to have with my father." The inspiration? Venturing into a storage facility containing her deceased father's belongings, Poe discovered a red plastic case filled with audio recordings - the voice of her demanding Polish refugee father, a documentary filmmaker and lecturer whose pursuit of his craft caused constant family upheaval. The cathartic "Haunted" is thematically linked - throughout the 17 tracks, Poe has woven samples from the recordings together with her own lyrics and melodies. Finding her father's "voice" gave her the insight she needed to make peace with her feelings. "I know this is very personal and to some degree indulgent stuff," Poe said recently. "But I also think that everybody, in their attempt to individuate themselves from where they come from, has to resolve these things." "Haunted" acts as a musical companion to brother Mark Danielewski's best-selling horror novel, the dense and challenging "House Of Leaves." It's hard not to get lost in the smart, funny and slightly creepy family story, but the record, made on a computer, is diverse and sonically challenging. "Hey Pretty" is getting airplay around the country. "I approached this as a new medium," Poe said. "I love the idea of creating something that could only come about with technology. Now I'm learning how to integrate the sound collages and sense memories with a new band." Poe will perform at the Bluebird Theater on Monday night. She's thinking in terms of how the "Haunted" songs will come across on stage. "My record company got the album and went, "Wow, we think we like this - but rock radio isn't playing women, and Britney Spears is on top of the charts. What . . . do we do with this Poe chick?' "So for me, the answer is touring. Different things happen when you perform songs live - they always seem to get better. It's exciting to see a band make this stuff their own." Poe with Think Of England: 8 p.m. Monday, Bluebird Theater, $15, TicketWeb C Brown - Denver Post ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2001 22:34:15 EST From: Dan98908@aol.com Subject: A Denver review I got to the concert about a 1/2 hour befour it started and Poe was there hanging out in front of her bus talking to someone important looking. I was too shy to say anything but I waved to her and she waved back to me. Once inside the the Blue Bird I was lucky to find a little spot open right in the front row. Next to the guitar player, Darius. I was so close I could read his set list. I could see the expressions on the bands faces. The crowd was extremly loud, rowdy and excited. It was the loudest crowd I have ever heard at a concert. At one point there was a guteral roar that was truely amazing. It was soo loud that Poe even looked a little shocked. Towards the end of the show Poe started pulling people up on stage(the second time she did this that night). Poe tried to get the guy next to me to go up, he chickend out, I said, "I will go up, please take me." I felt as giddy as a little school girl. Poe proceeded to grab me and hoist my 5'11" 190 lbs right up on stage. The next thing I new I was rocking out on stage with about 20 other people. It was a that point with every one watching me I realized I really cant dance. I hid behind the gitarist and a bunch of chicks. I felt a little like a dear in the head lights but it was also one of the most exiting feeling ever. For the next song she had us sit down on the stage and we all held each other and rocked back and forth. The best thing about the show for me was the was the way she really made everyone feel like they took part in the show. She ran around in the crowd more than once singing. Even if you dont get up front you still have a great chance of having Poe right next to you singing away or putting her microphone in your face. Poe sounds even better live than on CD. If thats possable. And she is even prettier in real life also. After the show I talked to Ziggy the bass player and got his autograph. He told me that he loves playing for Poe. I am 30, 17 years of concert going and that was the funnest and best performance a have ever been to. I had very high expectations going in they were all met and exceeded. In fact I was blown away. Please dont miss this show. Oh yea I rocked out so hard I was still a little sore in the neck the next day. But its a good sore.
