Personally I believe that males tend to look for a certain stereotype in the opposite sex more than females do. I have preferences and there are certain aspects I like about certain guys (I have a hand fetish and skinny guys in a fitted sweater are adorable) but not once has a guy's appearance stopped me from getting to know them. I believe seriously that when guys are like "Oh man skinny girls suck!" just to go against the model standard they sometimes forget that some of us are actually naturally skinny. And I am NOT offended by comments like that, it's just that some girls truly eat and EAT and don't gain a pound. I don't starve myself. There is no "average size." Fuck a size 6, because not everyone wears one. Some of my friends wear a size 12 and I consider that "normal." It's really sad to avoid getting to know somebody and their personality by their body type. I think if you really want to find the right person for you, your OWN opinion should determine that instead of society's, and I don't consider that "lowering one's standards." In my humble opinion, I think that appearances are nothing, because anybody's appearance can be attractive because there should be no set standard on looks. Uh so that's my opinion. ~*~ Burning inside (i cross myself it doesn't help) because I'm not smart enough (digging into hot white) learning not to lie (we cross it out and stay away) another sonic life~ Sonic Youth ~*~ I can't get laid cuz everyone is dead~ Sonic Youth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 10:47:49 EDT From: Peaceofpiedesign@aol.com Subject: Re: Npr: Re "beautiful women" month. I start a new job monday, working nites, it killed plans for Clevland, and now it looked like the Rochester show also. What a great way to wake up, Poe will be in Rochester NY on a FRIDAY! I can go to the show! Let the planning begin! I just drove back from the club, the "Water Street Muic Hall" it is exactly 1.8 miles from the door of my house. My house will be open to any AP from Thursday Nov 15th and we could stretch it into Sunday or Monday as the only time I will have to work is Sunday 130 PM - Midnite. I live in a 4 bedroom "apartment" and I have enough floor space for at least 20 persons with sleeping bags. The house is also networked thanks to the help of aaron@poe.org so if you have a laptop that is network ready you can plug in, otherwise, there should be at least one or two terminals availble to visitors. I'm open to any pre or post show activities, and would like to see them held here, or in the neighborhood, as this is the prime entertainment district in Rochester. There are two 24 hour restaraunts and a 24 hour dunkin donuts within walking distance on this street. Perhaps 6 or more clubs, 2 head shops, 3 skateboard shops, japanese, chinese, medaterainian, indian, itialian, vegetarian restaraunts. Two tattoo and body modification shops, a 24 hour Rite Aid drug store, a 24 hour Kinko's Copy, 2 Audlt Book Stores, a 7-11 and lots of other interesting things all up and down the Ave. Look out my windows @ Http://DigitalSter.Com aka Http://www.frontiernet.net/~domonroe or for the official Monroe Ave website... http://www.monroeavenue.com/ We have a little bit of time to plan, so I'm looking forward to what should be one of the most talked about POE weekends EVER!!! This is being billed as a WBER show, I spoke on the air this morning about how Psyched I was that this show was coming to town, and asked about a possible in studio appeance by POE and station manager Joey G said they were working on it. They wanted to know if I was going to be at the airport to greet POE, I said I hadn't planned on it, but hey if anybody wants to get together and greet Poe at the airport, I'm in. Also if she goes in studio, we might greet her there also!! I will be posting a page, with EXSTENSIVE information about who, when, where, how, and why... etc .. VERY soon, like less than 24 hours, perhaps less than 4... If you have Rochester show info, or would like to book a spot at sp00ks nest, send your DATA asap. I am willing to pick people up from the airport, bus station, train station, I spoke with a friend today about securing a limo for 24 hours, to run AP's up and down Monroe Ave, and to the show, there are about 30 parking spots surrounding my home, if the limo comes together I will have a person paid to watch the cars while we are at the show. Also, be aware that WBER will more than likely give away a bunch of tickets to this show, so even if you listen long distance via the net, you can still call in, as they will put your name on the guest list, you just have to make sure you get to Rochester. and again, hopefuly Poe will do an in studio appearance hopefuly with MARK also! OK I'm gonna go work on the data page, those of you who can get away the weekend of the 16th, should really try to come, this is a very large club, and it should offer all a great chance to see and hear Poe. I want to emphasize that the invatation is open to ALL AP's, I have regular family that I'm polite to at holidays, and they treat me likewise. We may not see eye to eye politcaly, but if you are interested in a wild ass Poe Party weekend, the door is open. My return to work means a couple of other things will be changing for me also. I have not been as active on the internet as I would like to be, in an attempt not to cross the line between doing this as a hobby, and doing this as a job. Now that I am working, I will be working on projects that I wouldn't even allow myself to think about, AND, I will be returing to #poe on a 24/7 basis, but, ESPECIALY at my favorite hour of them all 1234 AM East OK time to head down Monroe to the Bug Jar for some Free Selenas Mexican food during the haPPy hour. Danielewski by Doug Nufer Things aren't what they seem to be in this "second printing" of a novel that originally appeared in a different form on the Net. Proportions shift through and through, so that even the length of this 700+ page book seems impossibly dense, with an inner narrative layered by footnotes in different styles and fonts (one of which constitutes a major outer narrative), or practically weightless, as portions skim along with one word per page. At times, the dazzling array of book design elements threatens to overtake the writing, but what may seem frivolous or random is deliberate and well-conceived, while matters of the deadliest seriousness find their resolution in pure artifice. One's supernaturally bad architecture is another's fictionally viable malarkey texture. Essentially or ostensibly, the narrative at the core is the story of a Pulitzer prize-winning photographer, Navidson, and his ex-model girlfriend Karen, who move with their kids into the ultimate house of mystery. Simple measurement glitches widen to become seemingly infinite interior chasms that open and close at the will of some sinister inner universe. Navidson mounts various explorations of the interior, and makes The Navidson Record, a movie documentary of these adventures--a documentary which, only in the context of the next layer of the book, enjoys the celebrity of a household name. Packed with narrative drive and giddy wonders, this interior story comes via a rather impeachable source. An old blind man named Zampanr has supposedly compiled a rambling annotated manuscript that shares the movie's name as it describes the movie and supplies essays, notes, and commentary from real and apocryphal sources (as well as real sources given phony quotes). When the old man dies, a young hedonist stumbles into the project and becomes the manuscript's editor and, thanks to long and often irritating footnotes, its co-author and de facto subject. From his ribald Pynchonian sailor-style rambles around L.A. to endless appendices filled with his poetry and letters to him from his mother in an insane asylum, Johnny Truant makes Mark Z. Danielewski's book his book (or vice-versa). Truant, product of the proverbial broken home, seems to have thrown himself into this project as a way to find himself, or, more articulately, a way to find a place for himself. In one respect, this is a daring risk Danielewski takes: Truant is a lot less interesting than the core story about the house, which discusses the nature of space as it's defined by architectural perspective and the physical universe, and disgorges a brilliant range of references to art, science, philosophy, and semiotics. In another way, though, Danielewski's employment of Truant as his protagonist is the kind of pandering to cultural stereotypes you might expect from a book that was a cult hit on the Internet: he works in a tattoo parlor, gets high and/or laid a lot, has a friend named 'Lude.' But then, nowhere does the phrase "the benefit of the doubt" seem more applicable than to the world of House of Leaves. Doubt rules. Although it's tempting to define this novel by retaliating in kind, i.e., trotting out the references until the cows come home, this can be deluding. Rather than take it for a Lost in the Fun Infinite Jest House Leaves Gravity at the End of the Rainbow kind of thing, you could run with the footnotes and compare it to Pale Fire, but rather than pursue Nabokov's interplay between characters, Danielewski stakes out a different territory. From Derrida to Camille Paglia, Einstein to Leonard Maltin, the notes celebrate wild and often irresponsible connections to the outside world as they delve into a quintessentially hermetic environment. Then there's the book design angle. As in Richard Grossman's The Book of Lazarus (FC2), the publisher (in this case, Pantheon) displays a heroic integrity to follow the author's or designer's practical and effective (if unorthodox) formatting directions. Thanks to the personal computer and the Internet, some authors have found inventive ways to deliver their works and have exploited elements of paratext as well as fundamental design in ways which, paradoxically perhaps, seems to compliment the kind of care that goes into hand-crafted letter press book making. And yet, people wonder. There lingers a conservative prejudice against experimentation, against audacity, particularly if the prose comes packaged in what many regard as gimmicks (manipulations of font, leading, title page, copyright page, index, contents, etc.), as if these basic decisions of what goes into a book must be taken for granted rather than put to work by the author intent on making art. But through all of the doubt, delusion, and disorientation of House of Leaves, there emerges a fully realized work, and if it is all the figment of one obnoxious character's imagination, so much the better. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Oct 2001 00:08:13 +0000 From: "Rita Bass" Subject: Tori @ Austin OK, guys!!!
