AFTER WILD. i have NO CLUE as to why everyone is all in an uproar over "what single we should be requesting"... from what I UNDERSTOOD, we were doing WILD now, and then deciding what's next after that.... so that our pizza is baked, sliced & ready to serve after we put the coupons in the mail. that way, when the cutomers coming running in with their free samples, we don't have to go toss the dough to make the pizza... it'll be made already. [was that a far streach for a comparison or what!] WILD as an actual promotional single has been pressed at atlantic for sometime... from what i understand, they were ready to ship to radio BEFORE hey pretty made it big. atlantic spent $ on these singles. they could have thrown them away. but they held on to them & have now distrubted them & it's UP TO US to get it played. [did i ACTUALLY just stick up for atlantic... the label that dropped my teen idol & crushed my world when her songs weren't popular anymore?!?!] anyway.. these singles are at the stations... atlantic has paid for ads in HITS magazine.. if we go & change the single now, the radio programers will be like "oh yeah.. POE.. that girl.. the one that truely does have PSYCHO fans... that can't make up their minds WHAT single to play... next they'll be emailing us telling us to play the "dear johnny" interlude... GARBAGE has a new single, and so does TORI AMOS... we'll just play those instead". we all had NO direction when "walk the walk" was out as the first single around this time last year. hence, that was never a "hit" and didn't get much airplay, if any at all. then along came dean, and we all made "hey pretty" the hit is was with his direction. now, we have WILD and we have angie. LET'S DO THIS FOLKS. the materials are here... the single is at radio, the ads have been taken out...angie is here to lead us in a direction & supply us with the radio information.... program dirctors know it's out there & they know we're out here... NOW, we just have to do our part so the song gets airplay! we will move on to the other single in the new year. i guess this is all for me. i feel like "celebrity psycho". the one that shows up & looks good, organizes the things he is able to do, but doesn't actually book the gigs, or press the albums.. i'm just here to sign your autograph & take your picture. fax me over the radio stations to call & email call me when the tour dates are announced [if i'm not here, leave a message] and.. i'll see you all later love, rusty - -rusty www.rustyisdabomb.com the web site | agentorange2@mindspring.com | rusty@poe.org ***************************************************************************** ********************************* Jennifer Nettles Band: www.jennifernettles.com | www.jennifernettlesband.com | ON TOUR. ***************************************************************************** ********************************* POE: "Haunted" the album, featuring the hit "Hey Pretty" & the new single "Wild". You know what, maybe this is the real way to go. Think of the great pitch to a music director: You say you play one woman an hour? Well, play this track! It's a full song, and it's 50 seconds long so you can get it out of the way quickly! Jokes included and not aside, I agreed with rusty's post. Radio isn't playing angry women right now, and Control would be bad timing, thanks to Puddle of Mud's song Control, whose intro sounds just like Poe's. By the way I'm still wanting someone to mix the two songs together - Erik suggests that a bootleg mix of the two would have great crossover audience appeal. Other than that idea, I think Control missed the boat for promotion. - --Michele http://www.shellE.org/ Home of PsYcHovixen, Poe documents (including the Poe discography), Garbage and Poe trading, eXej, 12 Rounds, Mono, and Exploration Z: A Haunted House Of Leaves Alternate Universe ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2001 02:49:04 EDT From: Xomeon@aol.com Subject: Re: next single. I just got done sending out emails to the 10 and a half dozen or so of stations very local to me. Can't wait to see the results. Second of all, it's disheartening to see all of what's going on in the posts the last couple of days (you know what I'm referring to). I can see the points. But here's my view, if it's even worth two cents. I haven't been here long, as you all know. But I do consider Poe my Queen (as many of you do), so I'll back her decision to appoint Angie as point person. I'm going to trust her judgment. And Angie's right... focus on one song right now is the idea. And its a good one. I've been part of local campaigns to get artists heard, and the best approcah is a focused attack for one song.Don't scatter the DJ's minds or skew their lists by confusing them... by bringing Wild to #1, she'll be noticed faster and more furiously. As a new AP, I guess I was a little confused by Dan's post. I understand his pain. But I guess some of it didn't make sense to me, even AS a new AP. Oh, well. As I said, my view is likely not worth two cents. I know I'm a newbie. Just thought I'd share. - -JB ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2001 12:45:21 -0400 From: "John A. AND, Rusty, you should apologize to me, because in the first place, I never made mention of your name to single you out as an individual. I never mentioned your name to criticize you specifically. What I did do is respond to the contention that members of the AP list felt that too many of the SAME peoples names were showing up each time we try to organize something. What did I say? I said, "Look at this list of names" Now is it MY fault that YOUR name is on the list? NO, YOU are the cause of YOUR name being on that list. Did I criticize anybody on the list? NO! Are you a "NEW" face, no, nor were the majority of the people on that list. Wow, I said the TRUTH! I made a statement of fact, did you refute it? Did you disprove my statement of fact? NO, instead you engaged in a personal attack, and went all around it with a history of your affiliation with the AP's, I don't feel you have any right at all to criticize me for making a statement of fact, no more than I should be criticized if I rebutted the claim that we have a fresh look with new and different people in the White House. Especially from GWB himself. It would seem your biggest problem is not getting proper recognition for initiating the formation of the AP's, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT LACK OF RECOGNITION, nor am I a party to it. She wears a baby-blue burqa. That's the head-to-toe covering, slits for eyes, no peripheral vision, that the Taliban requires be worn by women who, before 1997, made up 70 percent of that country's teachers, 40 percent of its physicians, 60 percent of its university teachers and half of its government workers. The kneeling woman looks behind her as a bearded man approaches with a machine gun. He puts its barrel to the back of her head. She turns to face the ground. And he shoots. Bam. No preliminaries. No hesitation, proclamations or last words. You see something dark exit the woman's head. You see what appears to be the impact of the bullet splaying dirt beneath her, before she falls. It's dated Nov. 16, 1999. Scroll down. It's the Live Photos of Massacre of 300 at Yakawlang site, dated January 2001. Click here for ``movie clips.'' You see burqa-covered skeletons and clots of blood on walls. Then there is the Afghan Refugees Eating Grass site: freezing temperatures kills 18 children, Jan. 16, 2001. There is the Afghan Children of Garbage in Pakistan site. Pre-schoolers eat from overturned garbage bags. There is the site showing men hung by their necks from cranes. Another shows a home video of a public throat- slashing. At both, crowds strain for close-up views. It quickly becomes clear that opportunities to view Taliban atrocities are sickeningly endless at http://pz.rawa.org/rawa/index.html. Its creators warn you: the photos herein are not for the faint of heart. But they were put there as witness to homegrown terror by an underground Taliban-opposition group known as the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan that is trying to galvanize the international community over the Taliban's subjugation of women. At risk of torture or even execution, RAWA members have secretly filmed murders of alleged adulterers and prostitutes and gays before thousands in the Kabul stadium donated to the once cosmopolitan city by the United Nations. Ironically, the same Internet some believe was used by terrorists to plan the World Trade Center attacks is what has enabled these women to communicate beyond their borders. Only most of us weren't paying attention. ``The world, it seems, has become emotionally immune to the continuing tragedies of Afghanistan.'' So wrote a reporter in an ``inside Afghanistan'' feature distributed by Taranaki Newspaper Limited on Sept. 5, just six days before the attack. Surely, we're paying attention now. Some of what we've learned: that bombing Afghanistan ``back to the stone age'' won't likely get us far. It's already there. Even if RAWA exaggerates, even if reports of modest improvments are true, about a third of Kabul, scholar Barnett Rubin wrote in yesterday's New York Times, ``is as ruined as the World Trade Center'' by a decade of war. And children starve. And refugees freeze. And women die from diseases such as appendicitis because male doctors are still officially forbidden from seeing women and women doctors - women anything - can't work. A brother or husband must accompany women to market lest they speak to shopkeepers, and excite them. Women who paint their nails have reportedly lost fingertips and, for wearing makeup, are publicly lashed. Also on RAWA's Web site, alongside shots of grinning men displaying amputated hands in the streets of Kabul, there is the Painting by Afghan Children site. It looks nothing like you'd see your own children draw. Where primitive sketches of rainbows and stick-figure families should be are pictures of guns and bloody bodies and bearded men hitting women. Two drawings show men hanging upside down, tied to poles, either dying or dead. Beside one is a woman weeping into her hands. A child watches. The child of the dead man, perhaps, a self-portrait of the artist. ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #424 ***********************************
