We probably wouldn't lose against bin laden. I'd venture to say we'd mop the floor with this guy. The thing is that he'd also get off a few good ones at us. We'd be dealing with Pakistan, who we know has "The Bomb" and also we'd be putting Osama into a much more frantic position, cornered animals can be very dangerous. If Bin Laden does have some of the nasty stuff that we don't even want to think about, then seeing the end is near might make him want to use some of this stuff. Also, if you've ever read an old greek play, you'd see that when people get to thinking "I'm the most mighty, the strongest, richest, smartest, invincible, and everything else" they often are reminded that they are not. Just because we aren't able to win a traditional ground war doesn't mean we will be defeated. Additionally even if we were, it would not mean the downfall of the US. you can withdraw from a millitary action without acomplishing your objective, but still not either win or loose the war (Korea, Vietnam) The situation in Afghanistan is in many ways more challenging than vietnam was. First, if we don't officially declare war on the country and just on the terorists, we can't really just go around killing everything in the way. And even if we did declare war, international agreements would pretty much prevent us from randomly killing civillians any way. Sure, we have the best millitary in the world. For years that title went back and forth between us and the USSR, and they were always a close second when they were behind. And they couldn't gain victory in Afghanistan. A ground war there would be amazingly tough. Plus, air strikes could be done effectively but there aren't really any targets left. I mean, we could go after schools and hodpitals because they are pretty much the only large government buildings left, but I don't think that would go over to well with the international community. Afghanistan has been in civil war for 30 years. It doesn't matter if we bomb the capitol, there are explosions there all the time, and bombs from rival groups are often exploded within the region. If we droped bombs it would just leave craters on the craters of the initial bomb craters. So is it possible that we wouldn't be successful in Afghanistan? Well, it depends on how you define success. We will most likely be successful overall, but it is also a good chance that we would not be able to meet all the objectives in Afghanistan if we were to attack there ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 03:50:25 -0400 From: angie Subject: Movin' shtuff (sorry in advance) Tonight I had to move posts into the "Angry Psycho's" forum that were in "Poe News" because they were about other artists. I comprehend who you intended to speak of...other Mulsims and Palestinians and people from Afghanistan (& More of course) that DON't believe what Osama bin Laden regurgitates at them. America DOES believe in Freedom of Religion. Only these people's "freedome of religion" is affecting other lives in a terrible way. They are killing for their religion. Killing innocent people that they have NEVER met and never will isn't proper use of their freedom. Most Muslim people are VERY VERY peaceful. Just because bin Laden corrupts some people..doesn't mean ALL muslims are like that. Same goes for all religions, ethnicities and Countries. BUT we have to open our eyes to what has occured. What has BEEN occuring for thousands of years. It seems pretty self-righteous that just because it occured in the U.S. most recently that WE as a free country FINALLY decide to help (TRULY HELP) the fight against terrorizm. It isn't hard proof but it is a Factual Example of what he has been doing for the past 10yrs. And mind you, this is only what has been known and reported to Afghan, Saudi reporters and London reporters. Most of the Financial Circles and Businesses that Bin Laden has aren't made public until AFTER they have already occured. He does not make his plans known in advanced to anyone except his partners: (please read carefully) * A $296 million contract with other companies such as Ditco (Ben Zagr), Saud Ben Birdgis, Al Mouraiban, Kara, etc., for the construction of a ring freeway around Riyadh. * A SR1.3 billion contract for construction of housing units for the security forces in Jiddahh. * A SR1.3 billion contract for similar units for the National Guard at Mecca. * A SR1.1 billion contract for construction of the Kharaj Military City near Riyadh. * A SR1.1 billion contract for the Mecca Royal Divan. * A SR4 billion contract for expansion of the Mecca Holy Places. Several other major projects in Saudi Arabia have been noted recently: * Construction and improvements at the Riyadh Airport for the Al Salem Aircraft Company, including construction of nine hangars, as part of one of the five offset programs in the US-Saudi Peace Shield agreement. Scheduled for completion in 1995, these operations are to transform Riyadh's King Khaled International Airport into one of the world's largest, ranking with Singapore, Frankfurt, etc. Done with my long .2Cents....:( Sandra-D ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 13:44:34 EDT From: Peaceofpiedesign@aol.com Subject: AP related - T-shirt apology - wellbutrin There has been alot of opinion concerning the recent attacks floating around on the list, and though I do have one, I'd rather not get into it. Instead, I would like to extend my apologies to everyone who has ordered shirts. I had originally planned to print these in time to ship for delivery to AP's attending the KC show on the 14th. Though this show was cancelled due to "heightened tensions" I had certainly intended to get these shipped by now. I have just been floating around in a funk, not taking or making phone calls, rarely answering emails, and just generally being a big ole depressed lump in front of the news soaked tube. The new design was approved, and I updated the site several weeks ago, and purchase the new domain www.psychothreads.com. I had been meaning to post this news to the list for a while, but it just seemed so unimportant in the scheme of things, and I just couldn't find the strength to care. I can't really explain this sick, persistent, sinking feeling I've had in the pit of my stomach, but I do know it's much bigger than I alone could ever control. I've just been having such a hard damn time shaking it off, and in the process have managed to neglect my responsibilities both here and in my everyday life. My office is at home now, so I am here like ALL THE DAMN TIME, but still have gotten nothing done ... agggghhhhhh! Anyway, to make a long story short, and to return to the business at hand, I just got off the phone with my printer, and she worked me into the schedule for Tuesday the 25th. Everyone who has ordered already, your orders WILL ship next week, and again I apologize for the delay =) I think my anti-deppressants are kicking in now, so we should be good to go! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who lost loved ones and friends in the attack, those who have helped with the rescue efforts, those who are now preparing to defend our country, and the rest of us who are struggling through this crisis one-day-at-a-time. God help us all. We are not talking about a government program designed to make our country more homogenous at the risk of ignoring what makes each individual section of American culture unique. Nor are we referring to people who write for a select few and ignore the voices of "others" in our society. I believe the poem was merely trying to unite us as Americans at a tenuous, hard time in our history. Let me relate to everybody a little story. There was a huge Kingdom that practiced an evil called slavery. They put women and children to work along with the men and beat and killed them if the taskmasters weren't 100% happy. Well a very powerful and good nation saw the evil that was being caused and threatened retribution unless they stopped the evil. They tried stopping imports and exports, damaging the economy, and biological warfare. Yet this still did not stop the evil that the terrible nation was practicing. FInally, the good nation dispensed a poison that killed the children of the evil-doers. THis final straw caused the evil to stop. Many of you know this story as Moses and the ten plagues. But it has happened. When the Palestinian leaders were in Jordan, practicing their sickening evil, King Hussein killed 50,000 and it was stopped. Though I am agnostic, and don't support war or violence, I have learned something from the story of passover and the 10th plague of Egypt. It is the UTMOST IMPORTANCE that evil be stopped. WHen everything else has been tried, when peace talks fail, sometimes the death of innocence is absolutely necessary. War is Hell and it sucks, but if 1000 innocent Germans died in order to save 1000000 good people (and I don't only mean Jews), then it is worth it. If evil can be stopped and we can make sure that something like this never happens again, then it is worth the innocence. It is a terrible lesson in life, but it must be learned. WHen we lose all morality and accept everything as equal (as those sick fucks in the media and liberal left do, as they constantly support the terrorist countries), then evil goes on and flourishes. And remember my friends, it is JUST AS EVIl for a good person to not speak out as it is for evil to occur. I am not religous at all, but we can all learn a valuabal lesson from this bible story.
