If your Poe website conducts chats, it's worth looking into. Everyone talks of war, bombing the shit out of Afghanistan, sending them back to the stone age. Is the cycle of violence going to cure anything? There's a large number of innocent people in Afghanistan, and hardly a majority who hold the same beliefs as the Taliban. Whatever happened to America's idea of freedom of religion? These guys do what they're doing because of religious beliefs, or so I hear. Personally, I believe that the US should not be fighting against them, but rather protecting the people who do not share such beliefs. Has conclusive evidence been produced that directly links the crimes in NY to Bin Laden? I recognize that this might be heresy to say as an American, but what about "innocent until proven guilty?" The media picked up on him as a suspect and ran with it. I don't know in the end whether he will be proven innocent or guilty, but at the same time I don't think we as a nation should jump to conclusions. Remember Oklahoma? One of ours. Remember the Unabomber? one of ours. Noone deserves to be the scapegoat without reasonable proof. And at the same time, will the cycle of violence solve anything? Sure, maybe we'll bomb the shit out of them, but will that destroy terrorism in the world? No. It will just breed more underground terrorists who get smarter and smarter, and wait until our guard is down. I for one am strongly against a war. The killing of others is not always the best answer. Sure there is a lot of rage in the hearts of almost every American, but will the death of Osama Bin Laden cure that rage? How many foreigners with different beliefs are we going to have to kill to feel "satisfied?" I for one am not going to war. I love my country, I respect those that are willing to fight for it, but violence such as this is against the principles I have chosen to live by. I believe that there must be another solution to the conflict we have at hand. I don't know all of the politics and whatnot involved, so I don't feel like I am in a position to recommend the correct course of action, but I believe Bush, and the nation, should take a closer look at alternatives before resorting to violence. I believe that the most important thing I've seen in all the news, and one item that the media has conveniently overlooked is a letter from the Dali Lama to George Bush. The following is copied from his website. (http://www.tibet.com/NewsRoom/hhdl-letter.htm) The Dalai Lama's letter to the President of the United States of America Your Excellency, I am deeply shocked by the terrorist attacks that took place involving four apparently hijacked aircrafts and the immense devastation these caused. It is a terrible tragedy that so many innocent lives have been lost and it seems unbelievable that anyone would choose to target the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. We are deeply saddened. On behalf of the Tibetan people I would like to convey our deepest condolence and solidarity with the American people during this painful time. Our prayers go out to the many who have lost their lives, those who have been injured and the many more who have been traumatized by this senseless act of violence. I am at tending a special prayer for the United States and it's people at our main temple today. I am confident that the United States as a great and powerful nation will be able to overcome this present tragedy. The American people have shown their resilience, courage and determination when faced with such difficult and sad situation. It may seem presumptuous on my part, but I personally believe we need to think seriously whether a violent action is the right thing to do and in the greater interest of the nation and people in the long run. I believe violence will only increase the cycle of violence. But how do we deal with hatred and anger, which are often the root causes of such senseless violence? This is a very difficult question, especially when it concerns a nation and we have certain fixed conceptions of how to deal with such attacks. I am sure that you will make the right decision. With my prayers and good wishes The Dalai Lama September 12, 2001 Dharamsala, India >===== Original Message From PyroShwee@aol.com ===== >In a message dated 09/19/2001 3:18:54 PM Pacific Daylight Time, >rbbrantley@steelspaninc.com writes: > ><< By the > way I'm sure you guys have read plenty of stories and hear many > documentaries on how if the U.S. plans to attack with ground troops that we > will NOT win.
