I was talking with my father about the situation and I conveyed to him the thought that I can't see any young men (or women) right out of college with degrees and brand new corporate jobs putting it all on the shelf to go off, enlist, and possibly be killed in battle. My father countered with the idea that if he was a young man now, with the way he feels about things, he would enlist in a second. His patriotism astounded me, and whereas I am loyal to my country, I have not encountered ever anyone with that kind of strong feeling about the U.S. He said freedom comes at a price, a very high price, and that maybe people forget that. This generation has not yet had to pay the price (the lives of so many of our soldiers) that those who fought in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and other wars paid for all of us to be free. I know people on this list feel very passionate about the situation and there are many calls for the U.S. to strike back with the military... so I wanted to ask... who out there is actually planning on enlisting if/when war happens and the country calls out for its young men and women? I mean, it's one thing to say, yes let's go out and kick some ass, but it's another to physically put yourself in that position. I was just wondering how many people are planning to do that for their country when the time comes. If you don't want to reply to the list, feel free to tell me personally... This, I had no clue of. I had no clue of what was going on in NY, either, for about three hours afterwards. I was teaching in a preschool and I over heard some teachers talking about the WTC being destroyed..I couldn't believe it.
