Jobe" Subject: Donate blood I think we, as an online community, and as a country need to be focused immediately on the process of recovery. Our fellow countrymen/countrywomen are suffering and we can help. I hope that everyone reading this who is over 18 is making plans to donate blood this week. Most blood banks are currently swamped and understaffed, but they will NEVER stop taking blood donations. If you can't do it right away, do it soon. Please view this URL for information to give aid: http://us.news2.yimg.com/f/42/31/7m/dailynews.yahoo.com/fc/US/Emergency_Information/ Today, our country's right to feel secure in our own homeland was compromised. I want retribution as much as any other true patriot - those who are responsible and those who support them should be punished. However, the country is not in a position to retalliate yet. All in good time. The focus now should be on recovery and mourning. I implore every Angry Psycho to keep a clear head and stay focused on the task of recovery before retalliation. Even if you are too young to give blood, keeping a cool head about you will reap benefits. Racist thoughts and comments are innapropriate. The actions of a minority radical faction does not represent the opinions and desires of an entire race, or even an entire country. Having met Poe personally, I know that she would agree, and would want her fans to be tolerant and open-minded. I am confident that our leaders will strike back hard and swift. Those who are responsible will pay dearly for their actions. Please focus your anger at those individuals rather than a large group. Do what you can as a citizen and give blood. Best of luck to all of you. My message to those responsible for these attacks: Revel in the pride of your accomplishments while you still have breath.....you will not have it for long. I was going to limit my "contribution" on the subject of the WTC events to one post, but there's so much, ..... help help I'm getting sucked in!! First of all, the decision to retaliate is going to be a very difficult to make. Do we want to deal with a single terrorist group, harrassing us over the next few years and making life as we know it annoying and full of hassles? Or do we bomb the $h!t out of Afghanistan, and take the risk that we piss off 4 or 5 terrorist groups all attacking us in varying doses, and really screwing up the economy and the people, read PRIVATE CITIZENS, in ways that we can't recover from? But then we are the most powerful country on the globe right now, because we may not have the sheer numbers that other countries have at their disposal, we do have the money, the influences and control of most resources such as water and oil. And technically, I was wrong in my earlier post when I said that Afghanistan was a guilty party to this attack should it proove that Bin Laden was responsible in some ways, because they provided him safe harbor behind the guise of religious conflicts. They make terrorism possible because they don't allow justice to be served on the criminals perpetrating these acts around the globe. When you read the various news articles and exposes ( very many on the net ) you see quite clearly that the citizens of Afghanistan are just as dedicated to the destruction of EVIL U.S. And while only just over a quarter of the US knows the story behind Afghanistan, in comparison, in Afghanistan, about 80% of the population knows all about the US, every dirty little secret and thinks of us as Satan, the greatest evil on the planet. As for the racism discussion, I really believe you are focusing on the wrong aspect of the thread. The reaction is fear...... "Do they hate us so much that they could kill us?" it's an unnerving feeling. Of course there is economic bigotry which often gets mislabeled racism. Unfortunately, the econimcally disadvantadged people all tend to be people of color. Remember, it wasn't until the late 20th Century that we had so many in the Middle class, that we are able to have econimic bigotry. It doesn't make it right, but make sure you are arguing from the right position in regards to your arguments. Incidentally, taht is another big reason the Arab nations, specifically Palestinian and Afghan nations, our economic bigotry because we are the most powerful country. And lastly, remember that a family lost a member today. There are thousands of people still undiscovered, unaccounted for. By now, it's safe to say that if your immediate family member hasn't checked in via email of telephone, and you live in NYC, it's time to start worrying. Put yourself in that position and there should be a righteous indignation. Or how about all the internet relationships, where all you have is an email address and a screen name. You probably have a location. How would you know if that person was ok? Do you just say, well I guess s/he was in the tragedy at WTC, and move on with your life? So collectively cross your fingers that our government makes the right gamble in this high stakes poker game. And prepare yourselves by being aware and alert of the news media and events surrounding the US abroad. The best way to show that we are a dignified country is to act like the superior athlete that we are, and roll with the punches. We know that the end result is our victory fo pease and democracy. Ok, turn the Spar Spangled Banner off!! LOL! I'm stepping off my soap box! And one last thing. Someone said earlier that Poe is not a racist. From her last Album, Haunted, it's VERY clear that Poe has a spiritual side that is deeply personal to her. Take a lesson from a pro and meditate over the next few days and focus on gaining the strength and perspective you need to make the right decisions that are best for you and for society. Gawd I'm such a hippy flower-child. You never grow out of some things! Big Big hugs to the NY APs, especially the person who only found out about the attack after family & girlfriend phoned about it. I really hope you lives get back to normal, or as close to normal as you can get, very soon! Condolensences to those who lost oved ones, my heart is so heavy for you! Yesterday, we here in the Prudential tower were evacuated shortly after the first news came that one of the flights had left from at Logan Airport. I called my mother a little hysterical because I suddenly had an all-too-extreme understanding of life for people in the WTC buildings. I realized had they not had the time to fly to NY I was in one of only two buildings in Boston that would be a target. It suddenly made me realize- there are 20-something y-o women making $18 an hour and excited to be working in those buildings for the good pay- just like I do here. Like me, the came into work oblivious to issues on the other side of the planet. Like me, some had just booted up their computers- but unlike me that was the last thing they did. My cousin actually stood on his rooftop in NY and watched from the second plane on. He is in shock- and I realized how many levels there are to identifying with this atrocity. Instead of going home yesterday, I went to the New England Meidcal Center and donated platelets (the goopy part of blood) which can be done every 2 days. I waited in line for 4 hours and while I waited, volutneered to take the snacks around to other donators. Yes, they still need your blood, if you can not donate juice, they can also use volutneers and monetary donations. Today, a new world order is in effect. I had to show my badge twice to get to the elevator and I had to use it to get onto my floor IN the elevator. But if I were a terrorist I would just get a job here. My husband is Moroccan (liberal arabic), this will likely affect our lives as people are investigated, harassed, or want family to come visit them here and they can not get visas. Please remember that even if a person is of a certain ethnic group- they likely had nothing to do with this. Please remember that even if they are muslim- that the Islamic religion DOES NOT CONDONE MURDER OR TERRORISM- no matter what they say. Want to know why? My stupid ass just HAD to get her tongue pierced in May, which of course means no giving blood for a year. Also, I am so amazed by reactions to this tragedy. I go to the University of FLorida, and this morning on the bus there was complete silence, everyone jsut reading the newspaper. Right off campus is something called the 34th street wall, where anyone can paint a section with anything they want. half of the wall today was covered in tributes and memorials to this horrible day. The campus shut down yesterday, and pretty much everyone planted themselves in front of a television. I'm so glad I am in a community of like-minded people my age through this time... thats all I wanted to say. As great as the crisis for blood, the Red Cross needs cash. Many radio stations, including mine, will be hosting blood drives over the next few days. We have been asked by the Red Cross to also assist in trying to raise cash to help with the relief... So if you can't give blood, at least give a dollar or two to help in the effort... Jobe" Subject: NY, war, and the internet traffic jam - ---First off I would like to say that my thoughts and prayers are with all of the people of New York City. This is a tragedy to say the least. We WILL find out exactly who did this, and when we do they WILL pay. BUT, we should wait until we are somewhat sure who it is, before we start sending nukes and whatnot. Does that mean I don't think Bin Laden has SOMETHING to do with it? Hell no! I think he probably masterminded the whole thing, I don't care what he does or doesn't tell the press. I'm not sure if we will go to war over this, but we will be doing some bombing, that's for sure. Whoever did this was really organized though, so we shouldn't neccessarily think they will be a pushover. - ---Ok, now about the internet. I know alot of you might need the internet to keep in touch with family and friends, but by being online we are putting an unneccessary load on the lines that the people in New York need for emergency purposes. Even if you think that it won't make a difference for you to be on the internet, it might if 900+ people think that. So if it is at all possible, get offline, go give blood or money or volunteer or something. - ---I love all of you, - ---Jobe P.S. I had to delete 300+ emails so there was no way I could read all of them, so if I repeated what anyone else said, I apologize. Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo!
