I think encouraging one girl who wants to see the bands (since she didn't mention anything about scoring drugs or getting drunk in the parking lot or shagging the bartender) is ok. She wants to hear the bloody music. By the way, when she sent the mail to the list actively encouraging others to do the same as she, did you send her a repremand? She encouraged everyone underage; I encouraged only her. Three cheers to all the lovely teens who aren't deliquents, who only want to hear the bands, shake their bums, and generally enjoy life. Go out to your favourite teahouse, sit around and talk some philosophy, and drink a toast to yourselves. You are all lovely individuals. Well, lets see here. Illegal=wrong, depends on what it's about. In this case it's a hard question because the 21 drinking rule is kind of silly but it does exist, plus if young folk started infiltrating clubs and concert halls when they weren't allowed to then that begs the question "didn't their parents teach them better?". The whole point of my statement, which you seem to have missed, was that an action being 'illegal' doesn't always mean that it's 'wrong' to do so. I have no problem with 'young folk' sneaking into clubs and concerts. I also think that your assertion that their parents didn't teach them 'better' implies that you think it's 'wrong', even though earlier you stated that you thought that the supposed reason for barring 'young folk' from such places was 'silly'. [snip] > I don't have kids but I raised my 2 younger brothers. Having kids doesn't > automatically make a responsible person, if it did we'd have allot less > crack babies and single parent families. Kudos to you -- that still doesn't mean that you have a right to dictate to others how they raise theirs. Besides, a single parent family is not always the worst possibility in a situation. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2001 23:55:34 EDT From: JewlyaINAP@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: my bar..... I am not commenting on ANYthing but this one comment. Heck it is almost a rant on the most awsome place i have ever danced. Oh, if I could have shared a Vampire or Malibu Bay Breeze with Poe over its lovely bar..... Where i went to school, there was a single awsome bar called the melody. I do say CALLED cause sadly it was shut down. It was nearly a New Brunswick institution, and belive me, they checked id's like crazy. It had the best alternative scene and a legendary 80's night.....and ALL AGES shows. Bands as vague as lil city bands and as big as Le Tigre could come and do a show, and everyone could get in...... But when it was night time, it was prime time for the bouncers. I never saw a minor inside, and I know of a few who lost their fake ids when they tried to get in. By in large, the melody community realized that minors drinking there would not be a good thing, and few attempted. The community of minors who went to the all ages shows realized that if they snuck into the melody, the melody could lose its license, as did the fiercely protective crowd of adults. My overdrawn and totally ranting point is this: Patrons care in the propper locations, cause no one wants to lose their favorite haunts. I only wish, in retrospect, I never thought of trying to get poe there...But then again, I wasnt an AP when it was open.... Yes, I lost the haunt. It closed, after many years...insurance issues or squables between owners, we dont know...but we do know, that it wasnt cause of students drinking:) and We all wish we could experience it again..:( Ah, the Melody.....How I miss you.......
