Well, the time came to share with the class and I readily raised my hand... My three characteristics? Friend, reserved, and ANGRY PSYCHO! The teacher (and most of the class) looked at me like I was from another planet. "Wait a minute... So you say you're a friend and reserved, and then... an angry psycho?" My teacher asked. I just smiled. "You're not serious are you?" She asked me. All I did was shrug and say "Don't be scared." lol No one in that class will probably ever speak to me again, but oh well! Eh, I guess you kinda had to be there :P lol I thought it was a pretty enjoyable moment at the time ;) Well, off to listen to more POE! I just wanted to say kudos to the person who posted that they snuck into a bar to hear Poe. When I was a teen (oh so many years ago) I just wanted to hear the music. I didn't do drugs or anything like that (and I still don't). But, of course, my mom didn't believe me. While other kids were sneaking out to go to keggers and have sex in the park, I was sneaking into dance clubs to, ohmygod, dance. I was at the showbox last weekend to see Pansy Division, the Posies and the Old 97's. There were two kids at the very head of the line. They had obviously been there for a while. You should have seen the look of disappointment on their faces when they turned away for being under 21. Seattle is terrible about laws they have passed against all-ages venues. There was one club that offered afternoon all-ages concerts, but they were destroyed in the earthquake. I hope our local musicians (Eddie Vedder and Kirst Novaselic to name a few) continue the fight to have more all-ages venues so the kids can just see the bands. So to the 16 y.o who snuck in, I say way to go and I wish you many more successful sneaks in the future to hear the music and see the bands. juniper jenny ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2001 11:38:57 -0700 (PDT) From: Uhura Bisa Jones Subject: NPR: sneaking into bars... For every underage person just sneaking in to dance and enjoy the music, there's a handful there to pick fights, as well as consume alcohol and use illegal drugs. Sure those things happen with people who are over the age of 21, but at that age people are legally responsible for their actions, and there are tougher laws on the books to punish adults than there are for irresponsible teenagers. Furthermore, out of all the people involved if something bad were to happen, the teenager would pay the LOWEST price, with their parents, the bar owner, and other patrons bearing the brunt of the consequences. Yes, it sucks, but deal with it. Money is always a good thing to send, but I think it would also be cool if we could send something relevant to our home areas, so that she would know that psychos around the country were thinking of her. I'd be more than pleased to send a gift in regards to New England, maybe a lobster or something (j/k, lol) Lots of love, Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 Sep 2001 12:00:36 -0700 From: "Jennifer Johnson" Subject: Re: sneaking into bars... Gosh, you sound like a fun person to hang with. I'm sure if you think about it for a few minutes, you'd realize I wasn't talking to those who start fights. I was talking to the one person who just wanted to hear the music. Being a mom myself, I'm aware of the penalty parents face for deliquent kids. I'm sure this person (girl, I believe) is not. Here's the mandatory petty response: I'm sure you're a _great_ mom if you couldn't grasp the context of what I was saying. > it for a few minutes, you'd realize I wasn't talking to those who start > fights. - --> Yipee ki yay. My point was for you to encourage underage kids to sneak into a club that they aren't supposed to be in is irresponsible - regardless of the reason they were sneaking in. Rules may seem unfair, but they are there for a reason. Everyone at some point was excluded because of their age - troublemaker or not. Mischievous or not. Sometimes just being in the wrong place at the wrong time is recipe for disaster. If you want to have a place where kids can go to see live music, start an organization in your area with like minded people. Raise money for a venue. Book acts. But to encourage kids to go to a place that it's illegal for them to be in is irresponsible, and shows a complete disregard for their safety. I don't even have kids and I take this stuff seriously.. uhura ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2001 15:47:21 -0400 From: "Sarah H."
