Hi, so far I've contacted Dan, and YOU, in regards to the relationship between POE's management and POE playing radio station WBER, and the second rate treatment this station gets because they are not a commercial venture. Who should I contact to get this 5 year old issue resolved? Or Britney? Is that how you get people to check these thinks out? The expectation here in Rochester is that POE will do a show for the local commercial radio station " The Zone " , who in return will play POE for about a week before they forget who she is. If it goes down like this I'd say that the number of spins POE will get at WBER will go from about 20 a week ( with no Poe songs in rotation) to about 0, none, ZILCH. I'm sorry that WBER is not as big as the "BT and Britney" issue but it is POE RELATED, and if someone in the POE camp could give an answer to this 5 year old issue , it would be SO apprciated. sp00k etc ... This is SUPPOSED to be a POE mailing list, and when a "BT and Britney" question can get the direct attention of POE, from the people who make promises to get answers to POE RELATED issues, well, I sure would like to get this POE RELATED question some attention. I've copied a few points from the AP Mailing List Dos & Dont's as a friendly reminder to those who could benefit: "Do join in the fun... Your participation and support will only make this list better. Don't feel that you will be asking a silly question or a ridiculous statement. Make the most of the members on the list and the wonderful knowledge they possess. Don't flame, use excessive profanity, bigotry, or other violations of other people's basic human rights. You have an opinion. So does everyone else. Sometimes these opinions do not jive. That happens. But that does not give you an excuse to flame someone and personally insult them. Corollary of the above: Publicly flaming or insulting someone by calling them a fag, freak, fucker, dumbass, etc., will result in you being asked to leave the list unless you agree not to engage in insulting other list members. Don't post "one liners" to the list. If some one posts that they "just saw POE's new video on MTV, etc., please don't reply to the list with a "one liner" like "I saw it too, it's cool" etc. One liners really should be sent privately to the original author, unless of course you feel the list can benefit from the 'one liner'. (Or you can just beef up your post to include commentary and your thoughts on the subject, which then adds substance to your post. After all, this is really a discussion list.) Don't post what should be a PRIVATE e-mail to the list. Posts that do not directly pertain to either Poe or her work, i.e. debates on vegetarianism, religion, etc., should not be discussed directly on the Angry Psychos. We are not saying that these topics should never be mentioned or discussed, since they obviously do relate to Poe and her music, only that such discussions should be limited to how these topics relate to Poe rather than general discussions of the issues. Remember there are well over (900) people subscribed to this list. Before you send a post to the list, try to think of how many of the (900) might be interested in the post. If you think the answer may be "very few" or just one, PLEASE consider privately e-mailing those few or that one person. Do use emoticons (a.k.a. smileys) in your e-mails to the list whenever possible/necessary. One of the ongoing problems on this list is misunderstandings of an e-mail authors' intent. One of my sayings when it come to posting to the list is "If anything in an e-mail CAN be taken the wrong way, with over (900) people reading it, it WILL BE taken the wrong way". One way to possibly avoid this is to re-read your e-mail carefully before posting it. Another way is using emoticons/smileys." Okay, please don't flame me, because I'm just a guilty of posting NPR topics as anyone. However, don't get ugly with each other because of differing opinions, don't continue flame wars, and for God's sake, once the topic has been beaten to death, please let it go. Here goes... The Artist Formerly Known As Prince (or "Tafkap" to his friends). This lunatic broke away from Warner Bros. because they refused to release albums as fast as he could produce them. When he eventually broke out of his contract he released a three-disc set called "Emancipation." People thought, "ah, he's just releasing three cds to celebrate his new freedom." His next release was called "Crystal Ball." It had four discs instead of three. Can you say "prolific," boys and girls? Steve Vai. A few years ago Relativity Records decided to fire all their musicians of substance and technical prowess (see "Joe Satriani") in favor of a more sellable art form. I think this art form was called "Bone Thuggs N Harmony" and voila! The new Relativity Records was born! Having been a label for strictly guitar-oriented music, it was a very sudden and painful change as many musicians (who came from a time before the word "artist" was used to describe musicians) were kicked to the curb. Vai continues to do movie soundtracks, just released a box set, and is currently touring the country with Satriani and John Petrucci on the G3 tour. Like Tafkap, Vai continues to produce like a self-mating rabbit. Jennifer Capriati. Teen-sensation tennis player who crashed and burned due to overworking and overexposure. Disappeared from tennis. Lived fast and hard, got arrested, mugshot appeared on magazine covers. Came back to the tennis world as a glass version of her previous self. Spent a few years holding back tears, looking like a deer in headlights, trying to control her shaky voice, crumbling in early matches and not winning very much of anything. (fast forward to present day) Discovered self-confidence. Decided to play for herself. Crushed all opponents, much to the joy of her early fans like myself who remember the little girl in the Oil of Olay commercials. In their own way each of these folks faced a swirling climate that stripped them of things like creative freedom, control, or the ability to be themselves. All three persevered. I guess ambition, determination, and perseverance are what these role models provide. Madonna. An outrageous virtuoso who doesn't ask permission to be herself. Constantly changing. Constantly delivering the goods. (these are not references to changing diapers or delivering babies, though she's done both of those as well) Madonna is an example of someone coming from not much and willing themselves to the top, and not only reaching that summit but STAYING THERE. (Did you SEE that concert on HBO? She gots #1 singles, triceps, consistent vibrato, a new ensemble featuring heterosexual men, swords, country flair, geez louise how much more eclectic can she get?) Honorable mention to fictional characters such as Howard Roark, Dagny Taggart, John Galt, Patrick Bateman, and The Vampire L'Estat. You are all shining examples of humanity at its most extreme. (or undead.) For one reason or another, none of you can exist in reality, yet each of you have inspired legions of followers and fans. :) Steve _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Sep 2001 22:51:02 +0000 From: "Michelle Martinez" Subject: P+E Merchandise?? Any ideas about where I can get POE merchandise (preferably on the Internet)...such as stickers, patches, bumper stickers, etc.? I would think these kind of things would be readily available, but it seems not. Well if anyone knows where I can get this kind of stuff, let me know. Exploration Z is still hosting the Poe URL and AP recruitment flyers. If you are going to a Poe concert in the near future, please print these suckers out and get them out there! Not only are they good to bring to the concert, but for leaving at independent record stores which encourage that sort of thing. Please don't leave them on car windshields though. ::O http://houseofleaves.4t.com/house2.html - --Michele http://www.shellE.org/ Home of PsYcHovixen, Poe documents (including the Poe discography), Garbage and Poe trading, eXej, 12 Rounds, Mono, and Exploration Z: A Haunted House Of Leaves Alternate Universe - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2001 19:07:26 EDT From: LiveThruThisVow@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR Britney In a message dated 9/3/01 1:00:05 PM Central Daylight Time, endorphyne@qwest.net writes: > Sorry, but she is a rockstar. Fact that these contacts with poe choose to answer some of the npr stuff is their perogative. Angie and dan have contacts they don't make decisions on where poe tours what publicity poe gets and it's bullshit for you to take your frustration cause Atlantic won't play with your friends and share their toys with WBER. This is no different than when you started whining about poe doing chat room appearances, but not doing them at poe org. or street team getting more publicity than poe org. Valid? yes. Do I agreee with you on those and this current WBER situation? Yes.. Your right, but in all these scenerios you attack and more than likely piss the people off your trying to get to help. Think they are going to work any harder on your requests after being insulted? Doubt it. Least I hope not. You can be direct and firm without being an asshole. WBER is the hand that feeds poe? Apparently it's also the one that slaps when it don't get it's way.
