I agree that Britney puts on an entertaining show for a lot of people. I personally don't enjoy her or her music, but the glitz and glamour is hard to ignore completely. As for her talent...I don't know enough about dancing to judge whether or not she is good at that, but I AM a vocalist...and coming from a vocalist's standpoint...she stinks. She's not the worst singer I've ever heard...she can hold a tune...but her voice is nothing to jump up and down about. In fact, I hate her voice. But whatever. She's really not famous for her singing talent...she's famous for her ability to draw people in...THAT she is good at. Having said all that, I must now discuss why I have stuff against her. I have a problem when 7-year-old girls (yes, I know a 7-year-old who is in love with Britney Spears) are running around singing songs like, "Oops, I Did It Again" having absolutely no idea what they're saying and 11-year-olds running around with the make-up caked on and similar clothing to what Britney wears. I have heard her say things like, "I am not these kids' mothers. I can't control what they do. That's the mother's responsibility, not mine." Although I agree that parents have a responsibility to keep their children innocent, I ALSO believe that ALL PEOPLE have a responsibility to protect children's innocence...and that the higher up you are, the more of a responsibility you have. This, of course, meaning that celebrities have a lot more responsibilities than random schmoes on the streets do. It comes with the territory. She (along with many MANY other celebrities...I am simply using her as the example because we were already discussing her) is making excuses to cut down her responsibilities...she thinks she doesn't have any...and THAT is what pisses me off. I'm not even going to go into Eminem or the Bill Clinton scandal or any of that shit that's been beat to death...but it just angers me that these people can actually claim that they don't have any responsibilities to society. It's first-class bullshit as far as I'm concerned. Another thing...specifically about Britney Spears is that if you said she DIDN'T specifically market to younger kids, you know you'd be lying...they make stickers and lunch boxes and t-shirts for tots to market her. Older teens and adults are not gonna be buying most of this stuff. So, getting back to the point before...if you're going to be specifically targeting younger people, you BETTER take on the responsibility of protecting these kids, or you will experience the WRATH OF ANI! MWAH HAHAHAHA! You laugh. I.............. actually, I laugh, too =) Had to end it on a happier note. Just my opinions, of course. Flame away, fireflies. ~Ani _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Sep 2001 12:44:47 -0500 From: "Knight Arthur" Subject: Re: SomewhatPR, and some other stuff.... IMHO, it's up to no one but yourself to decide your sexuality, and when you decide, good for you. But, someone pointed me to this website and there's a fun little quiz on it to find out "how gay" you are. Go to www.thespark.com and take their "famous gay test." Keep in mind, however, that it's ALL IN GOOD FUN so I don't want to hear anyone getting all anal about it (no pun intended) and start another thread of bitching. Some of the questions are just WAY too funny. I found out that I am 88% gay, and my girlfriend is right behind me with 86% gay-ness. So I guess that means that there's a 12% chance that I'll find a man and be happy with him. Oh, I don't doubt it, I do have a few in mind, but I'm sure there's less than 12% of a chance that I'll ever encounter Antonio Banderas, Benecio Del Toro, or Johnny Depp!! Have fun. Think > it's PMS..... If it's psychosis, then it must be contagious, cause I'm feeling the same way. NPRs are all fine and dandy (I send em out myself every now and then), but they shouldn't take up 80% of my mailbox. Especially if they're all about Britney and bisexuality. If we're gonna get into an NPR debate, could it at least be something slightly more interesting than pop music and who you're sleeping with? Jesus, if I received the money she does in return for shaking her cute little ass on stage, hell... better believe I would paste on some sequins and sing for all the little children. Whatever the hell she's doing, it's working. The people I hold responsible for the anguish (both directly and indirectly) caused by her music are those bastards who make the compilation CD's for shopping malls and dentists' offices. And the managers of those places for allowing that ear poison to pervade every public space one needs to visit on a daily basis. It's driving everybody old enough to pay taxes UP THE FRIGGING WALL. Verbatim, from the site: "Here's your chance to be heard. Listen to the single "Haunted" and tell us what YOU would want the video to look like. The best entry will win the new CD, Haunted, a signed poster and a signed 8x10 glossy! Not to mention, your entries will be passed along to the appropriate people, so be creative, you never know who might read it!" With all the creative and opinionated people in our family, an AP just has to win this! If I recall correctly..this whole thread started because a few bi people "outed" themselves, which in itself wasn't a real big deal, and then when everybody declined to be shocked or upset or horrified by this news, posted increasingly defensive spiels about why they were bi, and how persecuted they supposedly were, even though nobody'd shown any signs of caring either way up until then. There weren't any links, and I have the perfect idea....I need to tell someone! And I need tacos! I need them or I will explode (I do that sometimes). Um, okay. Hi, everyone, my name's Amy. Call me Eliada, 'cause you are web-acquaintances and must call me by my web name (or something stupid like that)....anyway, I was gonna introduce myself with the whole bi thing, buuuut I sent the e-mail to a person instead of the list, and now it's way way way overdone. I don't believe much in intros....I figure that what you talk about will define you in relation to a mailing list....so anyways... <> NOOOOOOO!! NO! Waaaa! I cry now. Seriously, though, I get really vivid images in my mind when I hear Poe's songs (at least on the Haunted CD), and since I've listened to the CD enough times to break it and have to buy a new one, most of the songs have coelesced (dammit, I know that's not how you spell that word!) into music videos in my mind. Escpecially Wild. Is it like that for anyone on this list? Would anyone be interested in my cool music video ideas (um, yeah right)? I've been deleting all the Britney posts, so I don't know what's up with that, but from the other NPR subjects, it looks like a lot of people on this list have minds. Yay! Even the people who quote Happy Noodle Boy are nifty (that's my favorite line: "YOU DENY ME, FRESHMAKER?")....Invader Zim is awesome....I'm waiting for Johnny to walk by Zim on the street in that show so I can run around screaming "A HOMICIDAL MANIAC IS ON NICKELODEON!!!" I thought the MTV show was pretty lame, and I haven't even seen her in concert....I could tell that they edited stuff really poorly just by watching it....I could've done better with the Amiga on campus, and that's really saying something....maybe we should form VfHTP--Viewers for the Humane Treatment of Poe...hey, who cares if it doesn't spell anything and has no vowels?..she looked absolutely exhausted during Hey Pretty....I can't wait until I get a chance to see her in concert. Mmmm...tired. I better tend to my cute little pinewood snake, Crazy. Till later.... Eliada Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo!
