[VR5SBloom@aol.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 22:57:48 -0400 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: Poe Rocks HOF Part I I thought it would be fun to release this the nite before the show. OK, it is becoming apparent, that doing a Poe show is like one long trip to the amusement park. This time #3 for me, it was off to Cleveland for Poe on MTV at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Long time AP CathyS who has seen about 15 shows, took care of all of the drivig in her brand new silver SUV ( thanks CahtyS !! ) along with us was THC420101 AKA Jammie a very nice young lady of 24. Yes I know what you're thinking and you are right, its pretty sweet to have a dual blonde escort to Clevland. This trip was good for breaking down some misconceptions. First, its not that bad a trip from Rochester to Clevland, via PA just point the vehicle west, set for 70mph and stop 4 hours later.... well almost. But yeah it was pretty straight forward, so to speak, as we entered Clevland from the east, the highway runs along the shore of lake Erie on the north side, with all of the gorgeous Cleveland skyline to the south of the highway. Clevland is beautiful. http://home.cwru.edu/~jai5/pictures/skyline.gif Stunned. After a LIFE of hearing stories about how horribile Clevland is, turns out the place is very clean, the people are friendly, the city is directly on the waterfront, well the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is http://www.rockhall.com/museum/about.asp?id=1176 Then the city is just behind it, in between the skyline and the shoreline the trains and the subway run east and west just as the highway does. It is also the site of City Hall, which is where we end up parking, not that we KNEW we were at city hall, othewise there would have been less drinking and smoking going on, inside the building.... So we make it to the roof, cept there is a debate about whether we are on a roof or not, the security guard assures us that we are, and that we will be able to see the ship fine, I'm not quite following him but say OK happy to be on my way... we walk out to the edge, and yup straight down is the rail yard, and straight out is a beautiful view of lake Erie , I can still see the three large sailing ships that I noted on the way in, but their significance still had not set in. going back the other way, the roof is at street level, and we walk out to what is E.9th street, what I am guessing is main street Clevland, at least it was for us. The three of us are feeling pretty good, and I turn to my travling friends, and wonder what favors it takes to get an office with a north side window in the buildings that are so close to the waters edge. I flip them all the bird, and wonder how many of them are watching. The weather is great, 80's, sunny, blue skies, we are there on time, and walk the few hundread feet to the HOF by 2 PM to meet up with those who want to go on a tour of the museum. We hook up with #poe regular Splastics and his crew of 2, sorry I dont have everybodies name, but a good bunch of people, and head inside. The upper floors of the building are mostly glass all around, letting in tons of light. http://www.rockhall.com/museum/about.asp?id=1174 End Part I ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 20:08:36 -0700 From: "Jennifer Johnson" Subject: intro Well, here's my intro. I don't have any interesting handle. So sue me. (1) Who you are? Jennifer Juniper Johnson (2) Where you're from? Seattle, home of teen-age runaways, heroin, dead rock stars, and the hideous EMP (3) How old you are? Gads, can't believe I'll publically admit this, but 30 (does this make me the oldest person on the list?) Maybe my handle should be Old Angry Psycho (4) Where you first heard Poe? Must admit I'm a new convert. Never heard her until the Depeche concert. She blew my f***in' socks off. (5) What other musicians do you listen to? Depeche Mode, Violent Femmes, Fiona Apple, The Zombies, It's a Beautiful Day, Vast, Staind, Mojo Nixon, Cake, Sky Cries Mary, The Posies, The Young Fresh Fellows, Dead Can Dance, The Brothers Johnson (70's funk-yeah!), Lords of Acid, Sisters of Mercy.....the list goes on. (6) Any other interesting information you wish to share? I'm having a great time re-living my youth through you all- god it was great to be young and relatively free of responsibility. Don't squander your youth. Off to the left side of this 4 foot high glass wall is some open floor space that leads out into a larger area that will be used for the show. Already there is a podium setup with the lights and cameras, so that will be the background area, and across the small space is the stage, where we can see members of the band and sound crew getting set up. It's not really what I expected, but its all good. The place is just bustling with people, MTV people, Poe people, HOF people, tourists, and AP's, here and there you see differnet AP shirts, a couple of tour shirts, and more home made PsYcHo stuff. It's time to tour the HOF, we sit through a couple of OK video presentations, then start the walking tour, This place that will just boggle your mind with its collections of music artificts. I'm a minor history buff, I appreciate things that are old, that have a story, I guess really, the highlight of the museum for me, was standing by a roped off display with the explanation of the display written by the father of Jimi Hendrix http://www.rockhall.com/exhibitions/featured.asp?id=955 it said "this is the couch that Jimi used to sit on and practice as he played records on that old record player" and there it all was, the guitar case on the floor, the amp, some music, the record player, an old 4 foot high wooden one, with it's back up against the couch, and what a couch, a futureistic 1950's low back love seat, I had everything I could do to keep myself from jumping the rope and having a seat, all I could think of was MicheleVR5 of #poe, she would have understood. Somewhere along the line, we have bumped into long time AP TonyC Photog Supremo of St Louis and he has located a place that will rent out a digital recorder for the show, so CathyS at the wheel, we venture off into the city with TonyC and THC42010 in search of the camera store. Getting there is pretty much gravy, me and THC420101 enjoy a stretch in the photo shop parking lot, we are in an older section of the city, I take in the large 1853 built red brick church. Getting back to the lake front and the HOF, well there was never a doubt that we WOULD make it, hell it was right there in front of us, only problem, it was 5PM, rush hour, at one point, we sat through 5 changes of a traffic light, and did not move. When we finaly did make it to the lake front again, we had seen multiple intersections where traffic cops had to aruge with people to get them to obey, but more importantly, was the sign that read "Harbor Fest". http://www.clevelandharborfest.com/ Now it all made sense, we were smack dab in the middle of "Harbor Fest" 17 Tall Ships, were now in port, and perhaps hundreads of thousands of people were pouring into the area to tour them. Mixing with all the people that were coming to the HOF, it was a traffic nightmare, including the pedestrian traffic trying to cross the streets, but walking was deffinetly better than driving, we walk in right at the end of sound check, there is Poe, She recognizes CathyS, and then maybe me, but she has to go. Next tihng ya know, Im headed with THC420101 right back up the street by foot to get some food. We hit a food court in the office tower area not more than a 10 minutes walk from the harbor, we took our food outside and grabbed one of the many umbrella covered talbes. Rock tunes come out of the landscaped area as we eat, and enjoye the large buildings, with their mirroed glass.. then off to a little park, close to city hall, in view of what must be the worlds largest replica of a rubber stamp, that bears the word "FREE" http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/OHCLEstamp.html to do something that we should be free to do... back down the hill to the HOF, the place is getting packed now. but not nearly as packed as it will be by show time. Subject: PR ~I'm not a Virgin........anymore~ Since it has came about, the mentioning of others living vicariously through the lucky people who get to see Poe, allow me to elaborate for them. I had finally gotten to see Poe for the first time, Thursday, at the Rock the River w/ Poe. I had to travel over 180 miles to get to Portland, being at the bottom of Oregon. Once I got into Portland, it was tough finding the AP's metting place in the Essexs House, downtown. Once I arrived, we all meandered down to the loading dock. We had a kind gentleman ride up on a bicycle and ask what all these people were doin' standing in line. I spoke up and said we are getting on to boat to see Poe. He didn't know who she was, so we all explained to him. Afterward he cheerfully rode off and that was that. Once on the boat, we all waited w/ anticipation to see our laidy fair Poe. It was an hour before she started. That gave us APs a li'l more time to get to know each other a little better. We huddled in a circle, right up front. Aimee noticed the playlist for the evening was laying out, so we got pictures of that. Then Poe came on and did her usual. She came out into the crowd and everything. I was supposed to work that night, but I *cough, cough* called in sick. Small price to pay I though. After, the concert, the fellow APs and I gathered on the steps outside the boat when one of the local radio station guys asked if we wanted to be Poe Roadies for Friday nights concert. Of course any AP would jump on the opportunity. Unfortunately I couldn't because I had both jobs to work the next day and I couldn't afford missing more work. When all was said and done, I got Poe and the band's autographs (w/ exception of the drummer), and a group photo of the Portland APs, myself, and Poe. Yup; Thursday, August 23, 2001, was a good night for me. Your welcome everone. Sorry it was so long and pointless. - -Mad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Aug 2001 23:08:04 EDT From: JewlyaINAP@aol.com Subject: Poe On MTV-Thanks!! If you see the ad for it with Poe and you have the east coast feed, could you post that you saw it along with the time? The west coasters (namely me!) can then tape it three hours later. The show will be repeated Sunday September 2 at 12:00am. This in many people's minds means SATURDAY NIGHT!!! If you are going to stay up to watch the rerun, it's on late Saturday, early Sunday morning. If you are going to tape the rerun and you're in the central time zone or something, make sure you have the right day since I believe (but am not sure, so be sure to check for yourself) it'll be on at 11pm Saturday night for you! Sorry to belabor it, but that really causes a lot of confusion! As for MTV importing beautiful people, if it's true, I won't call it a sin. In reality, it is not uncommon for ladies, and men to dress to the 9's when they have a chance to be on camera / national television. Also, it was a ton of fun watching the beautiful people NOT make their way through the throngs of true Poe fans who were more interested in the babe on the stage than the ones trying to smile their way to the front of the crowd. As has been posted here in the past, the show was very interactive, well cause its made for TV. I saw more posts ripping MTV than praising MTV, and while I am not a fan of TV in just about any form other than Bevis and Butthead, a friend of my friend is my friend. So hats of to MTV for having Poe in such a significant venue, when there certainly are MANY bands to choose from. After the show, the fun just continued. First we got all the AP's together outside the HOF for group photos, and a ton got taken on multiple cameras. Then many of us headed to Brads house for a planned party. The party was great, there must have been about 40 of us there, or so it seemed. Then it was off to Beckies (aka Mother) house, for a nite that would eventually turn to sleep, but not before we sat around in a circle trading stories from the "Hello" days, and making funny videos of each other. I saw a bunch of familiar faces at the Cleveland show, I got a chance to put faces with names such as Dan and ED, and I met a bunch of new AP's. it was a very enjoyable, entertaining, and memorable experience. Special thanks to CathyS for transportation, Becky for lodging, Brad for the great party, and Jammie, aka THC420101 who you may recall stepped forward during the T-shirt bull with an admission of error on her part. I think any of you who actually met her would appreciate that she is a genuinely honest and good person, and I would gladly travel with her again, if she hasn't left the list in disgust F politics, enjoy the HOF show, enjoy your fellow AP's and the journeys you will soon share. sp00k etc ... While polishchick.com was definitely the brainchild of dean, and his domain, there were others who were contributors and put some of their own content up there. I do have a problem with how suddenly he left, and the fact that he would not even give those who had material up time to download it. I realize now that I was being rash and that the responsible and propper thing would have been to write you and you alone over it. I appologize for being inconciderate and not giving you the time you needed. I am sure you are a wonderful trader ordinarily and that this is an isolated incident. Shall I be receiving my end of the bargain once again, now that I appologized for my over reacting behavior? My gut feeling is focusing on PolishChick.Com remains the same as it has from the beginning. It has the same feel as chasing down money, but even if you find the person, their is nothing to be gained, so why expend the energy on an unproductive venture when you could be chasing down people who can help you now. I certainly added a bit of content to PolishChick.Com I also said from the beginning lets put what we have on yahoo till we find a new home for it all. We are all riding on the coat tails of POE, it's all one big copyright violation, so why is everybody so damn offended about it's disappearance as if the content providers were greater than the subject HERSELF? Oh, and you mean to say you that none of us backed up the stuff we contributed ? Whos fault is that? I hear Poe.Org will reopen, but not much else in that regard as to details of when. If it is true, I'm sure it will occur in time for the upcoming tour. I think it would be best if that's where the focus was, not on what's gone, but then thats just the way I live. sp00k etc ... I had some requests from Depeche Mode fans for Poe boots. Yes, we are slowly taking over ;) I updated my Poe boot page, and am looking for any Poe audio/video that I don't have, and even if I do have it, if there's a better source available I'll take it. Interviews, shows, Poe screaming, whatever. I have a midterm on Thursday, but can take arrangements meantime. I was going to offer B+Ps but I don't want to burn out, and seeing someone else besides me got ripped off has made me a bit bummed already...instead, look for some of that stuff I was going to offer on navelsex sometime next week. More stuff for more people and less for me to do! Anf - I did say you could have one a few weeks ago, since there were no bites with the 411 mag; e-mail me. - --Michele http://www.shellE.org/ Home of PsYcHovixen, Poe documents (including the Poe discography), Garbage and Poe trading, eXej, 12 Rounds, Mono, and Exploration Z: A Haunted House Of Leaves Alternate Universe ------------------------------ End of angry-psychos-digest V6 #365 ***********************************
