Aaliyah was a very young and very talnted singer and actress. I was so excited when I heard she had a role in Queen of the Damned, seeing as how I live and breathe any, and all, Anne Rice novels. It was very tragic, and when I first heard it, I thought (and hoped) that it was a hoax or something. Unfortunately, it's true. Yes, death happens everyday, indiscriminantly, to many people we don't know, but I think it hits people harder when they feel they have an attachment to someone, like they do with a celebrity. Odd for a channel that spends its time airing shitty studio outtakes of Tupac's that he didn't even consider good enough to publish on an album, with generic no-name r&b singers providing backing vocals because the sound quality and lack of beats (unless they added some) render the song unfit to be a single, much less on an album. The magic of Cameron was that he and the rest of my previous band re-invented the songs from 'Hello' to work for the musicians that would be playing them, as opposed to having the musicians try to replicate the album perfectly. In many ways the sound that evolved was better than what existed on the actual c.d...or so I have been told. In any case the same is happening with this new band. Who knows how the songs will ultimately be interpreted with these players, but I can tell you one thing, whatever happens, the sound that is eventually generated by them will be unique to this group of musicians and will belong to them and to this moment in time, in the same way that 'That Day' belonged to Cameron and I at that moment in time. Now, with all of that being said, if you happen to run across a singing Cello player, yet undiscovered, whose playing seems to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, feel free to let me know all you can about your discovery.
