Thanks for the update Tim, where did you find this info? I am not a regular TV watcher. I would hope that AP's would try to get some friends, family, or other AP's together, or do something at a favorite nite club that carries MTV. This show presents every AP perhaps the best opportunity they will ever have, to personally showcase Poe and the AP 's . Think "National Holiday" when you plan for this event, this is as good as 4th of July fireworks for sure. Think tour, who would you like to take to a Poe show with you? Make sure they see this. Speaking of think tour, I am making plans for the Rochester Poe show. No it has not been announced, but I'm not going to wait, she has played here perhaps a half dozen times in the past why wait? My primary focus at this time is how to make it a great time for those who visit from outside of Rochester. One thing I would definitely suggest right now is some sort of AP brunch / picnic / tailgate party Make it a "bring a dish to pass" event, a couple of hours prior to the show. This occurred to me while at the Rock Hall Of Fame, when I noted all the picnic tables on the side of the building. Got bad weather? Make it a Burger King, or Mc D's, any close to the venue ALL AGES land mark will do. While at this pre show event, names, name tags, t-shirts, flyers, or whatever can be distributed, even if you don't want to participate in the pre show gathering, you will still know where to contact others, or pick up any show related materials you may be interested in. I have other plans, that include what to do for those who would like to show up a day early or stay a day late and check out what is the "ROC" in Rochester. sp00k etc ... See, The Mistress Of > Groove site comes in handy after all ;) > > http://userfs.cec.wustl.edu/~ljk1/poe_mwap.html > (Its webjump site, poe.webjump.com dies today in 5 and a half hours ::( ) As Shell has mentioned, The Mistress of Groove website finally came to a close this morning, about a month short of its 5th birthday. The website and account at my school (where I graduated in 1999) was supposed to be shutdown a few weeks ago, so I'm not counting on that to stick around much longer. I visited my webpage late last night, and saw the counter: 65,614. Reflecting on that number, I'd like to say a few words... When I started the website back in 1996, only 2 or 3 websites dedicated to POE were around (I believe Tim Dube can lay claim to the first ever POE website). Those days, I was a good little webmaster: updating the website almost daily, keeping up with the latest news, maintaining contact with fellow APs on the POE.org chat and IRC channels, neglecting school work, and always trying to spread the gospel of POE to anyone and everyone. On a cold November (1996) evening, POE even signed my guestbook (http://students.cec.wustl.edu/~ljk1/gbook.html) after a webchat. I was incredibly estatic when I realized just who had signed my guestbook. My suitemates were even impressed. On a warm May (1997) night in Rochester, NY, I sat down with POE on a couch at the Hampton Inn and produced the front page of my website, printed out on a color laser printer. POE looks at it and goes (with her usual enthusiasm), "I remember you [from the AP gathering in Vegas earlier that year]. I remember this website. Thank you for making it." The woman has an incredible memory. She signed it: "Lawrence: The Mister of Groove." I still have that signed piece of paper somewhere in my apartment, always intending to have it framed. Since then, it's been amazing to see just how many POE websites appeared, disappeared (during her 3-year "hiatus"), and reappeared again (stronger than ever) with the release of 'Haunted'--just like her fanbase. I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of pretty much forgetting the website during her hiatus. But, during that time, I was nearing the end of graduation, and concentrating more on life than anything else. After the release of 'Haunted', I thought about trying to update the page, but that silly thing called life kept pushing back my good intentions--until it was too late. Now when I hear people on the list refer to POE as The Mistress of Groove, I always get that "warm fuzzy" feeling inside. To the 65,000 people: It's been a pleasure hosting this website. I hope I increased your interest in POE; and, perhaps, you joined this mailing list because of it. This is a wonderful organization, and we are also fortunate that POE acknowledges and appeciates us. That is very rare these days. It's been a fun 5 years. I will always continue to be a fan of POE, but, from now on, I'll be standing at the back of the concert venue and not front row. Cheers, Lawrence Founder, "The Mistress of Groove" website One last note: Why did I choose to call my website "The Mistress of Groove"? Well, I felt that her music was quite difficult to classify, but I knew that it was "groovy" music. Her music also exuded sensuality, perhaps sensuality only a mistress could provide. Thus, the name was born. And now, you know the rest of the story... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 10:41:08 -0500 From: Jennifer Cook Subject: RE: NPR - I am about to pass out from pure elated joy I know... Also........I have only been to Portland a handful of times and am sure to get lost if I drive up there. If I could meet someone somewhere, or ride up w/ somone, I would greatly appreciate the help. It would be the coolest thing in the world if I finally get to see Poe in person. I have so many questions and so many things I'd just like to say to her. Rock the River, here I come!!!!! I'm not sure how many APs this is gonna reach here in the greater Portland area, but all help will gladly be accepted. I'm 22 (almost 23 ~ October 31st), live in central Ohio, am single, no kids except for my PsychoKitty and Puppy. I'm an aspiring writer and am currently working on my first novel. :) The first time I heard *Poe*, I was sitting at a stop light. This guy next to me was playing her CD and I went nuts... I HAD to know who it was, so I rolled my window down and yelled over at him like... well, like a psycho, lol. He told me it was *Poe* and I went and bought "Haunted" that minute.... the rest is history. I'm completely hooked and I can't stop listening!!!! After that I also went and bought "Hello" and am just immersing myself in her words and the way it makes me feel. Hmmm, let's see, what else... Oh yeah, other musicians I listen to... I have an eclectic taste in music.... I love NIN, Marilyn Manson, Garbage, the older Alannis Morissette stuff, movie soundtracks -- I *love* movie soundtracks and original scores. I also love classical music, some light rock, dance/techno... it all depends on my current mood. Music inspires me and I always have something playing while I'm writing, so that tends to influence what I listen to as well. :) Okay this is *WAY* too long (sorry guys, don't flog me, although I might enjoy that, lol), thanks for reading and stay psycho! ;) Alex "Everybody else is afraid of the dark.
