Just got back from the awesome show at the coors amphitheatre. POE rocked my socks off! She messed up at the beginning of "Hey Pretty" but it was still great. AFTER HER SET I WENT TO THE BACKSTAGE Entrance to see if i could get my stuff signed and i waited till about 9:00pm. (her set ended at 8:35) saw some guy come out and asked him to get poe out there if he saw her. I thought i would have no luck but some guy comes up next to me and tells me to follow him. Excited i thanked him repedetly he took me back there and introduced me to Poe and i shook her hand. She was in the middle of a conversation with a writer for our local free magazine names "Slamm magazine". Turns out there is an article on Poe in there. (ill put it on the AP list as soon as i get the magazine) So i wait and the lady leaves. Poe asks me if i would like my poster i was holding signed. She signs it and we sit down and she starts talking to a bunch of people. I get something to drink. Feeling really uncomfortable i just sit and be quiet. Mark passes by and i ask him to sign my copy of the "House of leaves" while signing he askes me what im currently doing and i tell him in going to be a senior in High school. He asks me what i want to study and i reply with "Enviromental Science". He tells me about some books that he has read regarding the spotted owl situation in Oregon and how the loggers etc. (it goes on but i don't want to type it all sorry) he signes my book with interesting comments. I would have liked to ask Poe to sign more stuff but then i didn't want to seem like: "Sign all my personal belongings!" So i asked her to sign my poster. About 15 min. later Poe was taking pictures with people and i asked some girl to take a picture of me also. I asked her to take 2 pictures but she only took one. :( Too bad at least i got a picture. Some guy from the crew started rushing Poe to leave. So at that time i presented to her with a package full of goodies. Enclosed is a note/ letter whatever you may call it, a bag of japanese Kasugi Peach Gummies, a cd of the Kidneythieves, and a Pop'n Kid. SHe first pulls out the Pop'n Kid and she says its cute. Then i tell her to yank off the head and she gets this surprise look on her face and says that's so cute! (just a note everyone i show that to gets the same expression on their face) Next she pulls out the candy and say I love these!, next is the CD and she asks me if they are any good. then the note. She reads it and says im sweet and says thanks. Poe asks me if im going to her headlining concert and i reply with "Definitly!" She gives me a hug and now its time to leave. That was my night. So fucking awesome! I got to meet Poe and hang out! POE ROCKS MY SOCKS! Thanks for the awesome night! Tina L. Reflections: I shouldn't have been so quiet. "Please Send Me Someone to Love" on the Philadelphia soundtrack (though this is on her Best of CD) The Remix Deluxe CD (1992) has Feel No Pain (Nellee Hooper remix); Love Is Stronger Than Pride (Mad Professor remix); Make Some Room; Paradise (Ronin remix); and Super Bien Total. And there was a CD called Interview Deluxe (which I have not heard). There are a few Bootleg CD's circulating and though I don't have any, I will keep an eye out. Poe: Listening to the Tell-Tale Heart by Joann D. Ball The first show on her North American tour with Depeche Mode is just days away and Poe has strep throat. But the singer is calm, cool, and collected -- in her great scheme of things, strep throat is really just a small obstacle. Besides, shes faced much bigger personal challenges, many of which she shares on her recent record, Haunted. On Haunted, Poe explores the vulnerable mix of emotions and fears regarding her relationship with her late father. "It's about confronting them and overcoming them and [moving] towards a goal which is really -- I think ultimately in anything -- intimacy. Feeling connected to other people," she explains. Making peace with her father, Polish-born documentary filmmaker Tad Danielewski (best known for 1962's No Exit and 1965's The Guide), coincided with the end of a two-year tour in support of her 1995 debut, Hello. "I just kept returning to the fact that a lot of things that were wrong with my life at that time kept going back to my relationship with my dad, she says. I was having dreams about him all the time. In order to reconnect with her father and better understand their relationship, Poe scoured through a storage facility where her fathers belongings had been kept since his death in 1993. Among the personal items were a slew of tapes he had made for himself, audio notes on life and his career as a teacher. "I'd press 'play' on a boom box and the guy is talking to me, telling me things he never said when he was alive, as though he's there, she reveals. [The tapes contained] a lot of things I'd longed to hear, and then other things also that I needed to remember that came from less intimate tapes that were more like his lessons that he gave as a teacher. Rather than succumb to the record industry's pressures to produce an immediate follow-up to Hello, Poe listened to her soul -- and her father's voice -- and took her time crafting Haunted. "It was probably the most fulfilling thing I've ever done in my life, making this record," she says with pride. "It was an adventure from start to finish. It was an experiment from start to finish." Her soul-searching provided the inspiration for writing new songs, and samples of her father's voice as well as phone messages from her mother allowed her to create an intensely personal dialog with both of her parents. Themes of love, understanding, independence, and reconciliation reverberate over an eclectic mix of sounds, from the captivating swirls of the atmospheric title track to the soft acoustic, Aimee Mann-esque "5&1/2 Minute Hallway" and the techno-rave vibe of "Wild." Haunted's 17 tracks are a hybrid of genres and musical influences that include Heart, Garbage, and the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, whose tender-toughness Poe captures on "Control" and "Terrible Thought." The record really in a lot of ways is about sifting through the present to assemble a kind of understandable past, she explains. I've been through every phase of loving every kind of music, from classical to punk rock to trip-hop to dance music to even cheesy pop. There definitely is that element to kind of pulling these musical memories out of my head. In a lot of ways, I think the record is about sort of being able to distinguish your own voice within all of that." That voice is what impressed Depeche Mode, who selected Poe to open their extensive summer tour. "It happened in a very cool, organic way and I'm definitely a big fan of theirs," she says. "If you like Depeche Mode, you're not gonna be way off base listening to my record. You'll probably like it, too. So I think it's a good audience." Poe performs with Depeche Mode, Aug. 11 at Coors Amphitheatre. Call 619-220-TIXS. Hope you enjoyed that read. Tina L. Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! When POE came on stage, I immediately jumped from my seat and started screaming and clapping. I'm sure I made an ass of myself, since I was the only person in my section singing and clapping and screaming....but, I really didn't care. POE ROCKED!!!! During "Haunted" she ran all the way up the middle of the ampitheatre and pulled some lucky guy all the way down to the front row. Her energy was insane!!!! She was so much fun to watch! Anyways, after her set, my boyfriend and I went over to the backstage entrance to see if we could see her. They were only a few people over there, so we thought if we asked enough of the "important looking people" maybe she would come out and say hi to us. There was a tent set up behind a fence, just in out view, and I could see Mark from there and waved for him to come over. When he came over, me (and two other POE fans that I had just met) talked for him for a few minutes. When he was about to leave, we asked him if he could get POE to come say hi, and he told us he would go see what he could do. Right after that, we heard Depeche Mode come on, so my boyfriend left to go back to his seat (Depeche Mode is one of his favorite bands). Soon after he left, a guy came out from the back and started letting people go backstage. We were going to ask him if we could come, but some girl asked him to take her picture back and show it to some guy, so he got distracted and left. I was starting to feel bad that my boyfriend was alone, and right when I was about to give up, Mark looked over from the fence again and signaled us to hold on (there was only three people, myself included, waiting there by this time). Then, a guy came up and asked us to come back. So, I walked back stage and there was POE. Immediately she told me to come over and said "look at this, this is great". Some girl turned her camcorder towards me and showed me a clip of POE's show. During the end of the show, Poe had thrown a drum stick into the audience and it had hit the camera girl! Anyways, POE was such a sweetheart and so incredibly down to earth. When I went to go take a picture with her, I accidentaly knocked he box of Frosted Flakes out of her hand and she just laughed and told me it was okay. Then she picked up the box and kept eating them. I told her that the shirt I was wearing I had made just for the concert, so she signed all over the back of it. We sat and talked with a bunch of people for awhile. A few of us mentioned that we liked "Spanish Doll", so she asked us if we wouldn't mind translating it into spanish for her, just for fun. I was just in total awe of how sweet and beautiful she was, and she kept looking at me and saying "You are too cute" everytime I would say or do something. We also asked her if she was planning on headlining, and she told us that she probably would start in october. During all this conversation, my boyfriend came back from his seat to come get me. So, the security guard let him come back and I was so excited to see him! I took a picture of him and POE, and he sat with us for a few minutes until, unfortunately, some guy came and told POE that it was time for her to leave. A bunch of us hugged her and took a little group picture and left. By this time, I had only missed a few Depeche Mode songs, so my boyfriend and I weren't upset or anything. (I do love them, as well). Their show was wonderful as well, but my my fondest memory of the night was meeting POE. She is absolutely amazing!!! I didn't have a chance to talk to Mark besides our initial meeting, and I was kinda bummed. I wanted to tell him how much I loved his book and stuff. Maybe I will get a chance another time. Hoping..... A few quick shout-outs, I met two really nice people, and I don't recall them saying if they were AP's or not. But if they are, I just wanted to tell Angel and Claudia that is was nice meeting them! :) (Angel was the lucky person that got pulled to the front by POE during "Haunted") I also met one other AP, I actually think it was Tina, but I'm not sure. I'm really sorry. I also think I met two other AP's but I didn't get their names. I wanted to meet some more, but there really weren't any there. I had such a great night!! :) ~Shelley >From: Lok Tina >To: Ice Princess , angry-psychos@smoe.org >Subject: Re: San Diego Poe/Depeche Mode Recap >Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2001 15:12:19 -0700 (PDT) > > >Hey yeah i though you were the AP that wanted to have >the AP meeting. When she was done signing it, she said "Oh, this is going to kill her! She can't see what I wrote until she goes home and takes the shirt off." She was such a sweetheart and she kept making me laugh! It was such a short meeting, i wanted to sit and talk with her for much longer. But she had to leave, and I felt really bad for my boyfriend since I know he wanted me to watch the rest of the concert with him. That was so sweet of you to give POE all that stuff, I'm sure she'll probably remember you for it. :) Did you get anything signed? ~Shelley >From: Lok Tina >To: Ice Princess , angry-psychos@smoe.org >Subject: Re: San Diego Poe/Depeche Mode Recap >Date: Sun, 12 Aug 2001 15:30:41 -0700 (PDT) > > >That's exactly what i felt.
