NPR It's called asphyxiation (i know the spelling is off), and i think I read somewhere that the practice originated in China. I don't think it is a common practice, because it is very dangeros to perform and requires a practiced and trained hand, as well as experience. My advice would be to check into BDSM literature to get more information. It is VERY dangerous, and I'd suggest studying it and finding someone in the kink scene to teach you about it before you try it. In fact, finding the scene in your area might not be too bad of an idea if you and your gf are interested in exploring other kink activities. According to our minimal doctrine, "we covenant to affirm and promote: The inherent worth and dignity of every person; Justice, equity and compassion in human relations; Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations; A free and responsible search for truth and meaning; The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large; The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. " Everything from there is pretty much self-determined...at our Sunday services (gatherings, meetings, whatever you'd like to call them) the topic ranges from Virginia Woolf to laborer rights to Taoism. At my smaller church back home, everyone shared their joys or concerns from the week at the beginning of the service...at others, there are drum circles and political discussions. From my experience, I'll say that the two things every UU I've ever met have shared are a genuine niceness, and a very open, curious nature. So that's it in a nutshell, no deities, no set worship style, and everything is done by committee. My current church (www.firstuu.org) has some ok info, as does the UU Association (www.uua.org, and I'd be happy to field any other questions as best I can at supervixen489@hotmail.com. My name is Amanda (Mandy, I was named after a Barry Manilow song) and I am 21 years of age. Currently I reside in Del Norte County, which is in Northern California. I live with my parents due to certain circumstances that shall remain nameless. I work for the School District as an Instructional Assistant, which is basically where I help kids in their classrooms when they are having some trouble with their work or whatnot. Oddly, I had never really listened to POE before Haunted came out. The first time I heard her was on the playstation game Apocalypse, the main characters girlfriend was supposed to be a singer and they used one of POEs songs as hers. After that I kind of just forgot about her, till I heard Hey Pretty. So I picked up the album and now I am hooked. I plan on getting Hello asap. I listen to a diverse selection of music. I listen to Country, Pop, R&B, alternative, rock. The groups I enjoy the most (Besides POE) are Lifehouse, The Dixie Chicks, Drain STH (a now-defunct all girl hard/alterna-band from Stockholm), Dido, Fingereleven. I love to perform music as well. I play the trumpet, have for 11 years now. I sing and if need be I can pick out a tune on the piano, but its not my strong suit. I also enjoy reading, classics or Thrillers mostly. I read Dantes Inferno a lot, Shakespeare, the "other" Poe is one of my favorites (anyone ever read The Oval Portrait?). I also like Dean Koontz, Jeffrey Deaver, Patricia Cornwell, Thomas Harris and James Patterson. Plus I read a lot of veterinary medicine texts as that is what I want to be when I finally get my life together enough to go back to college. It is because of our mutual interest in her work that we come here and exchange ideas. It's wonderful hearing all the different opinions and ideas that come from such a diverse group and still we have the common thread...Poe. Not every AP can to the concerts in far away places nor are we all fortunate enough to see her or get stuff signed but that's ok because those that can do that can share it here. Now, while we wait for such reports we like to "talk amongst ourselves". It's all harmless and no big deal. Filter out the NPR stuff if you want nothing but Poe info otherwise join in on the fun! Because I endured the Depeche Mode concert. 8-) Luckily, Poe was AWESOME!! Definately worth the $50 ticket price. I was a little last, so I missed the first song. And I don't think she played "Trigger Happy Jack," which I thought was kinda odd. She was wearing a shiny skirt with some black (?) pants underneath and a tight lime green shirt. She looked great. She did the running into the crowd thing. Which was cool. Unfortunately, I was on the other side of the arena. Apparently a friend of mine was one of the lucky few. Then came Depeche Mode. Has anyone else been bored to tears by them?! I just wanted them to shut up so I could leave... but couldn't because my friend Matt wanted to stay for the whole show. Although he later commented "it's almost like they're trying to make this bad to make a mediocre ending seem better." 8-) God, every song of their's sounded the same. Like one long boring song. I've got quite a few DM cds. And I enjoy maybe one song on each. They only played two songs I like. So, during DMs set, I wandered about the venue buying hot dogs and beer. It was much better than actually sitting through the show. Earlier in the day, I took some posters down to the venue, hoping to get Poe to sign them. I wandered around the E Center for quite awhile. Then I finally said 'screw it,' and walked right down to the stage. I hung out with some crew members for awhile. They were pretty cool folks. Then one of the E Center people came and kicked me out. But, I did get to hang out, see all the DM projections, etc. I was probably there for about a half hour. So, I wrote a note on the back of a picture of Mark & Poe from the Borders thing here last year. Which the guy said he'd get to her. Although, I highly doubt that he did. I ran into some psychos outside during Depeche Mode. So, that was definately cool. Apparently Poe went back to her hotel right after her set. She signed some stuff for the other psychos. But I had no idea. So, no signed Poe posters for me. Which works anyway, because I had left them in the car, and we had to park 2 blocks away. That would've been inconvenient. "Hey, Poe, can you just wait here for 20 minutes while I go get my posters?" 8-) Anyway, we wound up leaving right before DM's encores. Cuz we were just too bored to take anymore. All in all, that was my night. YAY FOR POE!!! Subject: Poe in SLC Well, as most of you know, Poe is Touring with Depeche Mode. Well last night she was in Salt Lake City Utah (West Valley City actually). But anyhow, She played her set, which was AWESOME! and DM was about to come on, I don't know what came over me, but I ran outside around the back of the E center, and waited for her poeness to come out. She finally did, and I met her! she signed my shirt and admired my pornstar shirt that says 'treat me right', I almost gave it to her... maybe I should have. considering that she is like the goddess of music, at least in my world.... but she was leaving last night on a plane... to somewhere or other... so no AP party.... she couldn't have people backstage with her or anything either... something about DM being stalked by germans or something... but anyhow, poe is one of the nicest people I have ever met! I love you Poe! hope to see you again soon!! When you come to SLC in the Fall/Winter on your own tour!!! Psycho (for poe!) You can get Poe news from any of the Poe related websites. I mean, really, how many times can you hear "I saw Poe at X and she did Y and Z and sang Wild and Hello and Hey Pretty and then said hello to APs and went to the audience etc." and still be interested? If someone only wants to hear about Poe, then filter your email so "NPR" is filtered out. I've only been on the list since the day after the Blair Witch show, and I'm sure that the AP's were talking about all kinds of stuff during the 5 year hiatus between hello and haunted.
