I've had so many derogatory remarks made to me and about white people in general that I wasn't supposed to hear (because they were said by one black person to another). Example: Walking down the hall after French one day I start to hear bits and pieces of the conversation in front of me and one girl was talking about how they had a food day in her Spanish class and she was mad because she dropped her cupcake, she then said, "If I was white I would've just picked it up off the floor and ate it." What is that even supposed to mean??? That all white people are dirty and eat off of nasty (very nasty) school floors? Most of the black people in my school didn't even talk to me until they found out I could dance, what that has to do with anything I'll never know. But they found out that I could dance and from then on my friend and I were known as "the cool white kids." All of a sudden, just because I didn't "dance white" they thought I was cool... I'll never understand high school. I just don't understand how black people can go around being oppressive and racist to white people and then go off talking about how they're the ones that are oppressed, everything bad happens to them, how all the rich white people are holding them down... damn stereotyping hypocrites... it's like they don't even realize that they're being racist. I hate double standards... but god if you try to tell them that, look out you're in for the bitching out of your life. I'm not saying everyone in my school is like that... I've talked to a bunch of girls since freshman year and they're all really nice to me... but sadly the majority is very racist. I just don't like judgmental people... I never did anything mean or wrong to anyone that wasn't mean to me first. I just don't understand how people can judge each other by something so stupid as skin color. That's like saying, "oh they don't have blue eyes... see if I talk to them." I realize that was exactly the situation for a very long time for the black society, and I know that a lot of people are still racist, and I could understand how black people could get mad at racists or be racist to racists... but why get mad at me, when I never did anything mildly offensive to anyone? Just because I'm white doesn't mean I'm racist. Sorry about the long email... I just get so mad about stupid crap like racism. I think I saw that on Jeopardy once or something... but for some reason October sounds right... > Christmas claims to be a celebration of the birth of christ when in fact it > is a holiday created to replace a pagan holiday (the name of which escapes > me at the moment, as I am only a Jew). Much like Easter was created to > replace the celebration of (I believe) the vernal equinox. Easter was named after the pagan goddess of fertility, Oestre (I know what it sounds like... my spelling sucks, so I spelled it like I say it). Which really makes sense because in spring everything is blooming and going through the process of rebirth and such. I'm not sure about the name of the Christmas time one, but I know it was in celebration of the Winter Solstice. I think it was a celebration of death (just like spring is birth), but I'm really not sure. But what you said was true, many of the Christian holidays have over ridden pagan holidays to rid the world of "devil worship" so to speak. Ok when I started this email was going somewhere... but I lost my point so I'm just gonna leave it as it is. It's too late to keep track of my thoughts...
