The biggest challenge is (and will be) maintaining it. Content is far more important than the name. Remember, this is a big effort and requires organization. The AP army is a powerful resource but because of its size (and the varing ages of its members), often times our efforts are uncordinated. That is generally the nature of the beast. The biggest issue with the apparent loss of polishchick is that right now, POE needs all the support she can get. This is the time for the APs to make a difference. Maintaining the web site requires either a super-fan (like Dean or Jerrod have been in the past) or organization. While super-fans are great, in the long run it creates a difficult burden and it does really allow for succession of responsibilities. The alternative, Organization, while a royal pain to start is ultimately what will allow the effort to achieve victory. It doesn't seem like to much to ask for multiple APs to each take a small section of the burden and then we all can prosper. I have met a ton of you and I know how incredibly talented POE's APs are. We have seen folks like Michele carry the burden of the discography for years. There have been a great many of you that have used your creative ability to make shirts and POE promo items. I have seen incredible graphics created by new folks like Traci. Thousands of photos have floated through the virtual pipeline over the years. Many of you have web pages dedicated to POE that exceed belief. Financially, the APs have always had resources available. While many of you are just starting, there are also older APs that have been prepared to shoulder past necessary expenses. In short, the APs have the talent and skill to carry the burden. I think that first after aquireing the domain and getting the files from Dan that a small group needs to sit down and first select one member as a senior editor, and then split the site into sections. Also we need to discuss site layout and design, what we are going to do so that the site looks professional. Well that is all for comments. Talk to you later. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2001 15:06:55 -0700 From: ben Subject: Re: we need to do something littleraisingirl wrote: >can we get the old page stuff from dean and put up our own polishchick? come on >guys lets get together. > >who wants to help me > > >sarah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Jul 2001 00:07:10 +0200 From: Jorrit Harssema Subject: Re[2]: on buying polishchick and consolidating the future... > What if we split it groups and all worked on a separate section? Not a bad idea actually. Make some people "responsible" for providing the content of certain sections of the site, while oher people watch the layout, and make sure that the site looks "professional". I'm available to provide content for the "European news" section ! One one hand I am very thrilled to see everyone pull together and try to get this incredible site and all it's content back up. On the other hand.. its Dean's baby. Its his work.. and its his HEART ! I guess what is mostly on my mind is what would make someone so dedicated suddenly pull out and disappear ? Something happened . What ? Can it be fixed ? Can we get him back ? While I have all the faith in the world about the creative talents of the AP's , as a whole , something will be missing without Dean . I have never met Dean . Except for a couple of breif emails, I have never talked to Dean . However, I am so impressed with his dedication and his work that I am very worried. Was he under too much pressure ? Did we appreciate him ? Did Poe appreciate him ? I just feel that something is terribly wrong here , and someone with closer ties to Dean needs to find out what . Perhaps he would be willing to come back and delegate some of the responsibility of maintaining this site . Maybe he wants to sell it and just walk away . Either way . .I think we need to be concerned with " why " and not just run wild to take it over. I feel very sad .. we lost a member of our family. We need to bring him back home... ~jez ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 21:22:13 EDT From: EXej@aol.com Subject: The Future of POE on the web... attend #Poe tonight at 10pm eastern Seeing as how many Angry Psychos are offering to band together to form a new community based website, tonight's regularly scheduled AP chat at #Poe would be a great place to discuss our ideas and thoughts on the future of Poe content on the net.... Really good points - because somewhere he has the existing site on a hard drive that would be great to get a copy of, get his permission to continue with etc. I agree it's kind of strange. Hopefully, someone has closer contact with him and can find out. Maybe he just wanted out which is cool but it would be nice not to start from scratch. Anyway, I do motion graphics design and video stuff (see www.xiveren.com) and would be willing to help out with graphics. stephen www.xiveren.com "But you know something? Poe.org, angry-psychos.com,polishchick.com and p-o-e.com as well as shell, ed, erik, rusty and the other smaller sites. I don't know that creating ANOTHER site is the way to go. Surly we can make one of the ones already out there work? I REALLY like the idea of a group of APs running content sections with an administrator ( to make sure all the cooks don't do what too many cooks do) and tech guru to make it all work. I was the one that talked about buying the site if that is what would have to happen. I also have offered to buy server/bandwidth as needed. If I did that it would be registered in the name of the Angry Psychos. Obviously, (I am not rich), if anyone wanted to help I would appreciate it! Maybe Jarrod might reconsider and allow us to move the content to poe.org or angry-psychos.com. Perhaps Atlantic would let us move it to p-o-e.com and allow Mike or Roger to create an HTML version for those with dial ups and keep the flash updated for high speed... Could you see Shell mirror her discography, Ed his multimedia, an ECommerce site with everyone's shirts, hats, stickers and what all for sale or free, but able to be ordered thru the site with anything left after overhead going to LAFF or some other charity? We have PLENTY of websites that are known, most have been rather languishing. With a group effort we could make something REALLY special I think! Just some random thoughts by a tired, hungry old man. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 21:28:23 EDT From: SnugaKitn@aol.com Subject: ROCK HALL SHOW And YEs...MTV WILL BE AIRING THE SHOW LIVE 8pm 7/11/01 SET YOUR VCRs ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 21:27:31 EDT From: SnugaKitn@aol.com Subject: Live at The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame For those who missed the 1st 400 emails I sent out about this event.
