As a planner, I can not let it pass that this year POE is 33. Damn, I though I was old... heh - kidding... *** I am starting to plan a 35th. birthday party for our queen. The birthday party will be some time in March 2003, all APs are invited and encouraged to attend. This event is also intended to be a six year reunion of the first AP Gathering... Which was March 7, 1997. It is my goal to pay for this party. A budget of $35,000 is the plan. It will be in Las Vegas, NV. If all goes right... You get there, there will be a room for you... *** Now, before I start this adventure... I need to know if others are interested. So... I want a YES from 10 people. I assume there is interest in this idea, but to get the approval from other AP's will show me there is enough general interest to move ahead with the possibility. Getting a plan in place is the most important part. Shit... POE might not even want to attend. If she doesn't, we will have one crazy party!!! Las Vegas Style... *** Cheers, JK/// - Jarrod Kniff http://www.poe.org et.al. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 02:26:47 EDT From: Cokitty311@aol.com Subject: Re: POE 35 I'd be 19 as well so there's 3! While I didn't get to see the video I wanted to see, I did make an interesting observation. MTV played a Marilyn Manson video called "The Nobodies". I am a fan of Manson's (his music is far more intellectual than people give him credit for) and was familiar with the song. It contains none of the "7 words you can't say on TV", not any of the other lesser words that are frequently edited out of film and music videos. But it was edited in two distinct places. The opening of the chorus, "Some children died the other day", had the word "died" blanked out. Then, the end of the chorus, "You should have seen the ratings that day", had the word "ratings" edited out. Don't get me wrong, I *DO* find this song offensive. It should be. Hell, the song is about Columbine and other school shootings that occured. It says these people who have no voice, "Nobodies", are only heard when they commit some act that is so abhorrent that it garners media attention. And the media then feeds on the incident like a swarm of circling vultures, praying for a pulitzer or an emmy for their coverage. The worst part is that the only reason they go to such lengths to cover these events is because they know we'll watch it. in the week following the Columbine incident, could you change the channel and find something unrelated to that story? I couldn't. Hell, I think that's pretty much why I stopped watching TV. But what scares me is the fact that when somebody says something about it, makes an effort to point out this moral incongruity in our society, the media then just cuts it out and goes on as if nothing was said at all. I think it should frighten all of us. - -Endorphyne ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 09:21:57 -0400 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: Re: Win a POE Mag?? In my e-mail this moring: > Hey! > At PolishChick.com it says that an AP holding operator status will win > the mag...but, what is operator status?? Answer: A channel operator on ANY IRC network means you have special powers in the channel that you hold "Operator" status in. For example if a fan of another band is in #poe giving you problems, you have the power to make them go away, petty much forever if you like, by either "Kicking" them which is a temporary measure, or "Banning" them permanently from the channel. Except by special request, "Operator" status on Http://Poe.Org #poe irc.dal.net is only bestowed on persons who are active members of the Angry-Psychos e-mail list. There are TWO levels of "Operator" AOP and SOP . AOP is a beginning level, persons who acquire additional IRC knowledge, as well as TRUST on #poe are moved up to SOP status. SOP's wield more power in the channel, including the ability to designate AOP status on new users of #poe, and other administrative functions. I hold "Founder" status of #poe irc.dal.net (not to be confused with the www site http://poe.org which is owned by jarrod@cyberfan.com ) and the ability to designate SOP status. Any AOP interested in SOP status, drop me a line or catch me in chat. If you never learn how to use any of the powers associated with "Operator" status on an IRC network, on #poe, it means you are one of OURS, and it is also the list of names that will be used for this drawing. sp00k etc ... The WCAP list is a regional group. It's a subset of the APs on this list. The point of the list is so that people can plan their gatherings, whether Poe related or not, find travel partners or people's places to crash, or whatever, that for the most part the non-West Coast people on this list don't care about. That said, it's still open to anyone who wants to join, especially those who plan to travel to a WCAP event. The list is a Yahoo group, so the other benefit is that you can read the list through the web if you want, and not have it clutter your mailbox. The URL for joining, reading posts, etc is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WCAP For those of you in other places, SEAP is the biggest group right now, and I'm sure you've seen rusty's posts plugging it. Becky has a list of Ohio APs and there is an @poe.org alias for them, I think. There is a SOAP list on Yahoo groups that seems to be dead. MWAP and NEAP aren't formally organized right now, and Mid-Atlantic APs are in limbo without a leader I believe. And oh yes, there are the Forsaken APs up in Alaska ;) I think that's how it was broken up in the past, with PennAP instead of OAP, and no SOAP or FAP group. The groups weren't generally broken up by state. Finally, a regional leader was established for each group, to work with robby in getting Poe involved with events. So that's how it worked back in the Golden Age... ;P Look for the Events section of angry-psychos.com to be updated this summer by ShellE Productions. - --Michele ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 12:21:20 EDT From: Purpulfaerie51@aol.com Subject: Re: POE 35 i know ill only be about 17 or 18 depending on the month we go....so please keep us under-agers in mind.....=).... -Manda ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 12:47:19 EDT From: BUDave18@aol.com Subject: Re: POE 35 Hey there Not to sound pushy or anything, but I'm all for underagers, however.. I did a quick search for Poe in combination with Haruka, and it seems that Poe appears in Manga stories that were written between 1971 and 1976 :) The Poe family appears to be a family of vampires, and the stories are about a boy named Edgar and his brother Alan. Someone had a rush of creativity there !-) Jorrit ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 17:03:47 EDT From: AZTECLADY007@aol.com Subject: AP's in Cali or AP's coming to CALI ONLY!!! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WCAP Scroll down to the earliest email.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 14:05:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Goddess21401 Subject: Re: haruka poem?? hrmmm... im not sure.. but i think thats just a poem by edgar allen POE :P over and out - -LiNdSaY On Wed, 20 Jun 2001 16:13:38 EDT, Prozackitty16@aol.com wrote: | | Did POE ever make a song called this??? I'm new to the AP list as of last night, and I really look forward to talking further with everyone and learning more about the group. As requested, here is a rundown on my basic info: My name is Brenda (nickname Brendles) and I now live in Dallas, TX, after growing up in Oregon and then living in Santa Monica and Redondo Beach, CA. I'm 38 and female, and think I may be the oldest AP...someone, please reassure me that I am not :-) I first heard Poe in '95 when Trigger Happy Jack was released, and immediately loved the song. After a long break, I reconnected with the Haunted CD, and find myself listening to it almost daily. I like a wide variety of music, most all considered alternative, but particularly like Weezer, STP, Radiohead and Garbage. I also like old early 80's (no hair bands but the Cure). I have tics for Poe/DM on 7/17 in Dallas, and look forward to the show. I'd love to hear from other Dallas-area AP's about any events that may be taking place on or around the date of the show. In closing, my only Poe-related encounter to date was also one of my more humiliating experiences. Right after having my photo taken with Mark and Poe at a Borders signing event this May, I promptly lost my balance and busted my butt before a crowd of 200. Not my best moment, but definitely memorable. Poe and Mark were so sweet, and I got good laugh from it the next day. I look forward to getting to know you all better. Anyhow the other day one of the big dj's from KROCK was near my register and I asked him OUTRIGHT.."WHY DON'T YOU PLAY POE!!" He looked at me and replied, "I wish I could, I'm a fan." AHHHHH I felt really stupid but I"m so glad I said something. Maybe that will make a difference. I told him I'm gonna call and harrass him! OH someone purchased a Poe album today...yee haaa:) I heard a customer playing it through the little red dot machine and attacked her. For those of you who work in record stores....I dunno about you but I certainly can't play Poe as much as I want too:( It's communist. anyway ta ta Will ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 22:22:04 EDT From: BluesyBear@aol.com Subject: ATTN ALL NYC APS OK...So it's good to know a small amount of you want to meet up...but the question is where? I just sorta moved into an apt on 106th street, (long story) but it's completely unfurnished and outright embarrassing. If people don't mind sitting on a hardwood floor surrounded by boxes it's ok by me. I'd prefer meeting in a public place FIRST but I can deal with it...as long as ya'll aren't a bunch of freaks:) anyway..email me privately asap...one week till the show!! Anyway..point being..for those of you who haven't seen it the entire magazine is dedicated to women in rock. HOw f*cking livid am I-Poe's name wasn't mentioned once! I mean it's nice to know people are recognized femmes and all...but it irritates me to constantly see shit written about the same people, (ie kittie) and hear about the same stupid bullshit. god that really gets me mad. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 22:35:18 EDT From: BluesyBear@aol.com Subject: LIMITED EDITION HELLO CD?? just a quick question?? Most industry and economic leaders agree that this will force us to raise prices on gasoline, natural gas and add extra taxes to industries. With most on the world developing countries exempt from the treaty "green house gases" will increase no matter how much the US tries to curb our levels. This fact has been proven since the treaty was signed. About the debt from other countries. We must be such bad Americans deciding whether to forgive a debt because it fits our needs while making other countries pay what they agreed to. I think it is our right and duty to look out for number one and make sure our interests are at heart. I agree the US should be clean up the mess we make. No argument there. We break it , we bought it. As for drilling Alaska, why not? We've done it already, remember the Alaskan pipeline? Alaskans get around $2000 from the state for living in Alaska, can't beat that. There is so much worry that drilling will kill life in Alaska and some poor salamander will become extinct. The environmentalists have convinced us that drilling for anything is bad and will kill the stopped owl. I wonder why when we follow their ideas and things go wrong we blame the poor guy in office and not the environmentalists. How can they make false claims and worse case scenarios and never bite the bullet for being wrong. Dick Cheney was right to say that conservation wasn't the way to solve the electricity problem in Cali, that building more power plants is needed. It's a mathematical certainty that the load (power needed) has outpaced the capability of power plants to produce. More conservation will only prolong the inevitable requirement to build more plants. Conservation only puts a band aid on the situation , what we need now is innovation. I suggest we gather the hot air being made by the bush-haters and use it to heat the water that drives the turbines. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 23:13:19 EDT From: Prozackitty16@aol.com Subject: POE AT ROLLINGSTON.COM!!!! I don't think people are born crazy (although I do believe some people are born with chemical imbalances that make them more prone to insanity than the average person), they're bred crazy. Raised in families that don't support them emotionally or morally. Ones that fail to get across the basic principals of functioning within human society. The sort of people who allow their television sets to raise their children instead of spending time with them, teaching them to love their fellow man. I'm not saying that the people who do these things don't know it's wrong, but rather they don't understand *why* it's wrong. Maybe somebody should have taken the time to explain it to them. Perhaps Hillary Clinton was right when she said that "it takes a village to raise a child" (a phrase she ripped off from the Presbyterian Christians) in these times, simply because the parents don't seem to care anymore. It's funny now that I think about these things and what my mother always wanted for me. She tried to give me any and all opportunities to live my life the way I chose to. She never pressured me into a particular career path and when I decided that I had had enough of formal education, she understood. The only goal she ever placed upon herself in raising this child, was that he never wind up in a tower with a high-powered rifle. Well, mom, congratulations. And, for the record, the Columbine shooters thought Marilyn Manson was a pansy. - -Endorphyne Jill Dennis wrote: > > Yeah, it is scary.
