Poe was phenomenal. The new album has translated beautifully into a live performance. It was also great to see some of her older stuff mixed in so seemlessly. Poe performed a 30 minute set. The set included Control, Haunted, 5 1/2 Minute Hallway, Hey Pretty [also featuring Mark], Trigger Happy Jack, and Angry Johnny. I was really taken in by the whole event, so I have probably forgotten a few things. Our day started out when we heard that Poe was going to be doing an interview at 102.1 The Edge, at their street level studios. For those of you that don't know, the street level studios are open door studios where anyone can walk in off the street to see what is going on as well as interact with the people that are there. This probably provided us with some of the best one-on-one time with Poe, as it turned out... her schedule was very tight. This was also when Poe met up with our special surprise guests, Roberta and Levar [Thank you Robby for setting that up!]. From there we all proceeded down to Ontario Place/Molson Amphitheater for the sound check and concert, which were both amazing to see. After that most of us were able to meet Poe again, after her set while DM was playing, in the concession area where she was signing autographs for all us Psychos as well as anyone else that happened by. Unfortunately, our time was cut short because Poe couldn't stay any longer she had to rush off to her next stop on the tour. The time she did spend with us I am very thankful for, not many artists will go out of their way to spend time with their fans like she does. If anyone out there hasn't bought a ticket yet, I suggest you do so immediately. I want to thank all the Angry Psychos that came out to the concert. You guys were amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend the day with. It wouldn't have been the same without all of you there. I look forward to meeting all of you again. I also want to thank Poe & her management. They went out of their way to accommodate us, even though DM's management made it very difficult at times. Eric, Dan... Thank you so much for helping me put all this together! I couldn't have done it without your help. Bucher" , Subject: NPR-/burger king-turn away now before it's too late Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 11:43:53 -0500 I went to the site and found it was a PETA site, well surprise surprise surprise. I swear, these PETA people are a funny bunch. They make some good points, like when they protested schools using real frogs for science class, I can understand that. But a while ago they were protesting the US Army because the Army put info in it's soldiers field handbook telling them that they can kill small animals for food and gave other directions on how to do it. For those of you that don't know, the Army handbook is a very good source of info for survival training, warfare, scouting, and other tips on soldiering. I emailed Peta and asked then to explain their position because I thought if a person needed strength to fight a war then damn the small critters. They emailed back pointing out Capt. Scott O'Grady didn't need meat for what, 5-6 days, and they quoted some Army general as saying soldiers didn't need to do that to animals because food supplies were secure. I quickly pointed out that Capt. O'Grady was being hunted and couldn't go looking for food, he had to hide, also they didn't include the rest of the General's speech, he went on to say "but if for some reason they can't get food through normal means they can hunt to feed themselves and stay alive". Peta has a good mission, I hope one day they stop using lies, misquotes, and playing on stupid uninformed people's emotions to further their agenda. Isn't it a great country we live in where we have the choice to eat what we want when we want? Stick a BK burger infront of a Somilian and say "don't eat" and see how long that burger stays there. When you connect all the dots, trace the roots to what led to many of us making the journey north of the boarder to Toronto, the first person to be thanked by me would be Dan98908@aol.com Dan dropped me a line wondering which show I might be going to, I indicated that I had desires for Toronto but heard that it was already sold out, as it turns out, it was not, so while I was iffy about going because my car sucks so bad, aaron@poe.org of Chemung NY AKA Cookiemonster etc ... on #poe, just happened to be at my place making cat 5 cables and I offered to buy his ticket if he would drive us to Toronto, next thing you know Tim Dube of Buffalo NY AKA Ilmortal on #poe joined up with us for this PsYcHo journey to Toronto. Next on the list would be our host in Toronto, Mark, AKA emeraldbay@poe.org & emeraldbay on #poe . Life has kept me away from #poe quite a bit these last 6 months, Mark has been a great new addition to those who are not only registered channel operators on #poe but he is also another computer geek who can dispense help for chat and otherwise. Mark and many of the rest of us that went to Toronto made frequent use of #poe to shape up our plans, thankfully once we broke away from the keyboards and hit the road to Toronto, almost everybody was equipped with a cell phone and mutual phone lists. About 24 or 48 hours before we were supposed to head out, an e-mail arrived wondering if Poe's surpass guests, Levar of Rise And Shine fame, and his Mom might trail our car on the journey to Toronto as she was not familiar with Canada. Initially I did not respond as we did not know what day or time we were leaving, and we had to also shuffle off to Buffalo to pick up Tim. However, Robby Black the last duly anointed Pres. of the N.E.A.P. (the silent majority) dropped me another e-mail, so I sent out the feelers to Aaron and explained to Robby that we didn't really have firm plans yet. Then I hit the showers, site of my most productive thinking time... Due to space limitations in the car, I didn't invite a guest, I felt kind of bad about this, because the lady who convinced me to sign up with the Angry-Psychos certainly would have enjoyed going to the show... and as I was in the shower running the logistics of the trip through my head, it occurred to me that I could kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Tammy, AKA catzeye, the lady who got me into Poe goes to Toronto about twice a year, so if Roberta would accept Tammy as a tour guide, they could just leave for Toronto anytime they wanted and bypass the stop in Buffalo. So that's how the girl who had no plans for the weekend ended up backstage with Poe in Toronto... :> Saturday morning, aaron@poe.org points the car west for Buffalo, we pick up Dube by about noon, have a little refreshment :> and head for the dreaded boarder crossing, visions of snarling German Shepherds and guards with probing devices dancing on my brain, we pass through in what Dube terms the most uneventful crossing he has ever made, I write it off to the fact that the guard figures its two kids stuck hauling around some old fart. We are rolling merrily along the "QEW" at over 100 !!! Kilos that is :> 3 lanes wide everyone is hauling ass, with no mercy for slowpokes if they are in the left lane, information is flowing on all three cell phones, when and where to be at the radio station, which we arrive at while the interview is in process, when and where to meet and the stadium, and a travel report from the Levar crew, they had stopped at a Wendy's for food, and that puts them about 50 miles in front of us. We are moving along the water front, and I ponder Toronto, my neighbor across the lake, soon, in two years, we will be connected by a ferry that will reduce the trip to one hour, and make Rochester a truly international port city... and then there it is a site I had not seen in over 20 years, Toronto, large and beautiful, the sky filled with towers, with many cranes building still more. We are racing the clock trying to make the interview at the radio station, we are listening to the edge 102 FM, we are on the famed Yonge St. bustling with people and traffic, we can hear Poe doing the interview on the radio and then we see the station, it is on street level, and has at least four glass doors that let you see and walk right in. From the car, I can see catzeye and her blonde hair, as you may guess, we are frantic for a parking spot, and in the end have to go to the roof level of the building to score a parking one. Getting back to street level on foot becomes a nightmare, the only way out is a walkway three floors down that takes you to the other side of the street, to the upper level of the interior of a department store, finding our way down and out to the street from there is like working through a maze, we finally get back outside, get our bearings, and hustle into the Edge 102 FM, and there is Poe & Mark doing the interview, with about 30 fans, station staff, watching and listening, all the AP's are having quiet little reunions, CathyS and her Mom, we meet Mark AKA emeraldbay, our host, and then I see Roberta and Levar, everyone is very happy to be together again, and Poe is wowing us with the interview. End 1 of 3 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 17:34:02 -0400 From: "sp00k@poe.org" Subject: Toronto Part II I'm trying to get pictures, while trying not to take too many as it is digital and I am limited to 60, I got stuff with me to hopefully get autographed, by Poe, and Mark. I'm wandering around the station, barely hearing the interview, caught up in the positive feelings that abound in the studio, and then it is over, they are playing WTW, and the fans move in for autographs, I snap a few pics, and realize I better make my move also. First I hit up Mark with my copy of HOL, he thumbs through it, and comments that it is well worn, I guess he may have also noted the page bookmarked with the Braille and Poe "Hello" lyrics :> He does a drawing, and is careful to ask if that is sp00k with oo or 00, he is very affable, and conversational, I am thankful, and hustle back to my book bag for the items I have for Poe to sign. The buzz goes around, Poe has to leave soon, 10 minutes, everybody needs to be at the loading dock at the stadium 5PM sharp if you want to get in for the sound check, I give up on getting things signed for now, figuring I will have a good chance later while others may not. One thing is for sure, since the beginning of this adventure it has all been on the spot choices, and I resolve that no matter where I go, I'm not going without the stuff I have for Poe to sign. I'm split in my feelings, part of me is trying to figure out where to be for the next good picture, part of me wants to be a Poe fan and say hello to her personally, while we are now having a more noisy PsYcHo reunion in the center of the studio now that the interview is over, it's so much fun in every direction, I don't know how, but somehow I'm talking to Poe and getting my pic snapped with her, she knows who I am, it's my lucky day, she decides not to blow me away, oh yeah that's right when she first spotted me she said "now there is an old school AP shirt" in reference to my lilac purple Rochester edition, with Angry Psycho scrawled in large white letters on it's front, anyway I tell her I am sp00k from chat etc ... and of course, she is too kind. Still betting on a shot to get stuff signed later in the day, I make a break from Poe so as not to dominate the little time she has to share with others. It is time to leave the studio, I'm already out front waiting for a good photo op and other opportunities that may pass by on the extremely busy street. Out comes Poe and company, everybody is heading for the stadium, we set off in search of a way back to the car on top of the roof, someone, not me, decides we should just hustle up the car ramp, after about three levels of near misses, we head for an elevator, the doors open, and out pops Poe and company!!!! Damn digital cam in the off position, and by time its fired up, they are gone... At the stadium, some of the planned aspects of this adventure start to look a little shaky, nobody knows anything about letting anybody in, and we are not even allowed on the road to the stadium, never mind the loading dock. The big guy with the walkie talkie, guarding the road kept getting pissed cuz we were standing on his road, then we were blocking the sidewalk, just when I thought we might have to levitate to make him haPPy, it got worse. Three security guards show up and are having fits about the AP T-shirts that Mark is handing out to people, accusing him of illegal vending. I listened to mark have a few words with security and then basically said look the Angry-Psychos are a private club and those shirts are being distributed to MEMBERS ONLY, nobody is selling anything, well then after a couple of more minutes, it degenerated into a trademark issue, and the bad cop of the bunch was now getting vocal about getting Poe's manager to make a call on the logo, and so I wanted to know if we would be hearing from the representative of the dead guy or the live lady? He got pissed and yelled "YOU ARE AN ANGRY PSYCHO!!!" I decided against yelling what he was, for he would not have been as proud as I was :> did I mention we were standing in the hot sun for about an hour now and some of us were sweating a little LOL OK in the blur of it all, at the gates of the stadium, under the eye of multiple security guards, with many questions unanswered, Poe's road manager made a few trips up and down the access road, things got a little smoother, nobody would go to jail over T-shirts, we all would at last be allowed into the stadium for Poe's sound check, during all of this, AP's were gathered in two spots by the access road, and the DM fans were sure being entertained as they arrived. 5PM came and went, we still were not in, and the comp list for tickets would not be available until 6pm, then it was 7 pm . Tickets, everybody was hustling for tickets, scalpers and the public, including two AP's, Sparkle Goddess and I guess her sister? They scored the front row seats that got them on the wall. I'm not sure of the order, but at last the comp list came through, and or, we were allowed into the stadium for the sound check. 2 of 3 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 14:36:40 -0700 From: "*~* Melissa *~*" Subject: KPR: To Andrea Opening act or not...it's still a POE concert in my mind. There are two rows of us, seated just above floor level, all AP's, and security, it may be a DM show, but for a moment, the stadium is OURS, and the stage belongs to the lady we all love and appropriately she sings "Control" she sounds magnificent, I can see that in the faces of the other AP's as well, somewhere in the song she improvises and sings, and perhaps I heard her wrong, but I swear that I heard "I have missed you guys so F N Much!!!" And then it is over, we are on our feet applauding, and you can hear a spattering of applause scattered about from those lucky enough to have wandered in. Security is being security again, trying to get us back out to the main road until the gates open, Sparkle Goddess and others try to get an inside edge, but in the end we are all back outside doing the ticket hustle. Almost as quick as we went out, back in we went, I'm guessing Dan98908, our Toronto host Mark, and Poe's road manger Craig (?) finally pushed all the right buttons, and the AP's finally made there way to some of the best seats in the house, we were not all in the same sections, but we all had very good seats, THANKS!!! I won't do the set list, I don't recall it, it's not my style, I just listened and enjoyed, and pinched myself, four years of waiting rewarded by a Poe that seemed if at all possible, much more powerful and confident than last I saw her. Although I did read a snide quote last night on #poe, apparently made on the DM.Com board by one of their fans, I would say that the response of the 99.9% clad in black DM crowd was more than favorable, with genuine applause, and I scanned the crowd all around and did see that people were paying attention as opposed to engaging in idle chit chat.... Poe fans, I promise, you will not be disappointed, Poe, Mark and the Band will live up to your expectations, and more, that is really all I can say of the music, yes I know I am biased, so I will admit, that on the first half of one song, everybody may not have been in sync, or maybe they were perfect and it is just the way I heard it. For sure they were not on stage long enough, I'd like to make two more shows, time will tell... DM was doing their thing, so I decided it was time to wander to the top of the hill to see what all that smoke was coming from, after satisfying my curiosity that yes it was a pleasant illusion, I wandered back down, and into the concessions area for something to munch on and lucky for me cause there was POE!! and Levar, Roberta, Tammy, Robby Black etc ... Poe had to leave, they had been trying to reach us on our phones but we couldn't hear / feel them over the music level, I hauled back into the stadium grabbed the AP's in the area I was sitting in, and we all hurried back to the concessions area for what had become an unscheduled meet and greet. Word is from witnesses, Poe was told it was time to leave, Poe insisted on seeing the AP's, and if we couldn't come back stage, or on her bus, she'd just go out in the crowd and meet with us, as you may gather from all of this, once again, it was unplanned. Again, time becomes a blur, we are all together happy, out in the concession stands, Poe is talking and signing, taking and signing, everybody is snapping pictures, DM fans are loving her, as it was in the past, everything is so casual, friendly, Poe is talking about everything, signing everything, Craig, Poe's road manager is counting off the time till she must leave, I still have multiple items for her to sign, and he reminds me that she loves to doodle when she signs stuff. At last I get my shot, I explain to Poe what it is that I have for her to sign, and what it is for. Multiple copies of Nov 1997 issue #13 of "Rockrgrl" featuring Poe on the cover, one for me, two to be given out on #poe (details to follow in a separate e-mail) and one from Poe to Poe, she didn't have a copy, I also had a long held copy of the locally published "Freetime" magazine from 1997 with Poe on the cover, she gladly signed them all. The Rockrgrl mags read "Thanks For Supporting #POE" the first one will be given out fourth of July weekend. The winner will be randomly selected by someone, from a list of names complied from persons who are registered operators on #POE, so if you want to have a shot at this Poe autographed Poe on the cover four year old magazine visit #poe via http://poe.org or via other means to #poe on irc.dal.net register a nick name, then we can put you on the #POE op list, ok more details to follow, but that is the contest in a nutshell. At last, it is time, Poe MUST leave, Poe does a hugathon, we TRY to get a group photo, maybe the traditional cameras got a better one than my digital P00f, as quick as she was there, she was gone again, it was now dark out, DM played on in the background, as planned, some of us made our way out to the front of the stadium to meet at a preselected spot with the other AP's, we stayed there for a couple hours, comparing show notes and saying goodbyes, then Make took me, Aaron, and Tim for a midnight tour of Toronto by foot. I must say I do love Toronto, even at that hour, the streets were filled with moderate traffic, and the sidewalks were crowded with people, strolling as we were, and enjoying the summer like air filled with the smell of food and drink, or sitting in the MANY sidewalk seating areas that the clubs offered, leaving the club itself empty. We did the Hard Rock, but mostly just walked and shot the bull about what a great time we all had been having. Once again, munchies took over, we settled on the familiar Subway subs as it was open till 4 AM. We must have stayed about an hour, shooting the breeze, people watching, munching, and I guess about 3AM we parted ways, and headed back to the states. That just about covers most of the highlights of this AP adventure in Toronto, as I saw it. It was great seeing everyone again, Levar is much bigger than last I saw him, as was Robby Black. I saw that movie last night, and so did my friend, seperately. And so did you. I wonder how many people watched that movie last night? I'm so freaked out. Anyway, it was a great movie--probably the only movie I've ever been "blown away" by. Very disturbing. >> I saw it that night too. i watched it on my friend's DVD player, all the cut out scenes with it. wow. that movie is great...i still can't speak about it that much b/c there's really no words to describe it for me. i was so blown away by it. emotionally it just wore me out. i sat and watched it stunned, then finally towards the ending when all the ish started to go wrong, and the two ladies went to see the mom at the hospital, i don't know why, but tears just poured down my face. yet my mouth was still shut from the shock, it was soooo odd. it just disturbed me to no end. i love when a movie can move people like that. wow. that's all i have to say. and i bought the soundtrack, great soundtrack. it really is. phew...it's to the point to when i listen to it, or when i think about the movie i can just feel my eyes start to bug out and water. i love that.
