(this was written in like the 50s)anyway, she hails a cab and gets in and sees each one of them on a different corner hailing a cab so she collects them all in her cab. it turns out they are all going to be guests on johnny's show and they are on their way to the studio. it's a long, funny/sad story she tells but the gist of it is that it is her explanation for why she let go of reality when it's clear from the details she provides that she had already let go of reality before "that day" because "that day" could have never happened.
