Do they go free? Are they given a choice between prison and rehab. There's a GREAT idea. Everyone will go to rehab, and 99% of those people will leave and call up their dealers three feet from the door. I think the best solution to this problem is for the government to legalize ALL drugs and then provide the drugs themselves. Unrealistic, perhaps, but let's look at all of the advantages. First of all, The people who cannot control their addictions, die. Period. Those who wish to casually use drugs can do so. It's high school evolution theory. The government can charge for the drugs or not. Selling them initially is the best idea as they can recover all of the money that they would be losing from the "War On Drugs" ceasing to exist. But, eventually, as the people who are not using the drugs fade into the minority, the government can safely give the drugs away for free. The drug-free people will end up taking control of the government, and the drug-users will be easily controlled. But that's my theory, and I'm a bit of a megalomaniac. - -Endorphyne Joel Schwartz wrote: > > Yet the way rehab works nowadays is futile. I agree that drug offenders > should not be jailed. Now, I'll grant that it was beautiful to look at. There were several scenes I had to turn away from because they were making me dizzy, but other than that it was fun to watch. Listening to it, however, is another matter. First of all, the plot is cliched. Not a damn twist or turn anywhere. Secondly, the characters were cliched: the poor writer, Satine's true love, is essentially perfect, whereas the rich Duke (aka The Villain) was nothing but rotten. The third reason is that every time you are expecting a moving dialogue, the characters break out into some ridiculous (and yes, cliched) song. "My life is complete now you're in the world" type bullshit. Sorry... I'm still kind of pissed that I paid for it. And a little nitpicky aside: the French on the sides of the buildings is slightly wrong (i.e. "Hotel Blanche" should be "Hotel Blanc"). Who will regulate our own behaviour? It's a classic prisoners dillema. When the two screwed companies lower prices "at all" many people will defect to the lower prices. Also consider that when we promise to favor everybody elses business they have absolute controll and a competitive advantage, they will screw you blind and won't even call you the next morning. Yes, you can go after two companies, or realize that the market forces causing this are way more complex than you imply and many factors have to change before anything happens. Welcome to the real world where things just suck sometimes. Deal with it.
