So some of us Portland APs were supposed to meet tonight. Sure, I was doing my usual 30-minute late routine, but I was positive someone would be on their 2nd beer or 3rd game of pool by the time I showed up. I enter the bar and I only see a room full of yuppies and one gentleman being harassed about not having a legit ID. I order a beer and proceed to wait. My eyes open in disbelief as two young ladies stand next to me at the bar, only they are making lots of squeaking, high-pitched noises that only other sorority girls could possibly understand. "oh my GAUD!!! Did you like SEE that cute guy?! Weee heee heee heee hee hee... Oh I LOVE your hair.. Wee wee wee heee heee hee! You're the best!!!!" You get the idea. Then I ask the bartender if there was a group of "psychos" that perhaps I wasn9t seeing. He didn't point out high-pitched women (to my surprise), but he did say that the guy with the fake ID was looking for such a group. I waited some more, but no Poe fan showed, so I proceeded home. But Mr. Fake ID was waiting outside. Meet Laurence, a Poe fan since '95 and a new arrival to Portland from Texas. He was from Texas so I immediately felt sorry for him. ;-) Worse than that, he lived more than an hour from Portland and had no way to get home. We went for ice cream. I ate my diabetic special, a two scoop sundae, fast, slow, then fast fast, slow. After the last gulp, we went to see if buses were still running to his area. While stuck in a traffic jam on Hwy 26, I called KNRK and told the DJ to do two things: 1. Stop playing Meticallica because they suck and trying to convert KUFO listeners was a lost cause.. And 2. PLAY SOME GODDAMN POE. Luckily for me, the DJ, "Squid" was a Poe fan. Not more than 7 minutes later Laurence and I were jamming to "Hey Pretty" as Mark read those incredible words. A noteworthy parallel is that I was driving a bit like MZD's description of the drive in the Santa Monica hills. (I don't think Laurence liked the remix as much as the original. Either that, or he didn't like my singing along with it.) Anyway, Laurence caught his bus and I stopped into a strip club on the way home (don't tell my wife) to catch a quick dance and one last beer. Unfortunately, the only good song those dancers played was the Bloodhound Gang's "you-n-me baby ain't nothing but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel." But no Poe. Stupid dancers. Good night all. I'll be here all week. - -MV ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 May 2001 04:00:53 -0500 From: "Bad Bender" Subject: Re: NPR - oh, what a night... oh man, wow, that was hilarious. Alas I did not. But I saw much else that reminded me why I don't watch MTV, or read many magazines and why frankly I just sorta... revolt against some sociatal rules. Madona get's band for "violance", and earlier for sexual what ever. But has any one seen the mulin roge(shit I don't know french at all) song... lady marmalad... yeah those girls grab their criches, and act like prostitues( taking jewlery ect...) and have their hair all crapityied up, and wear those new "shorts" that are all that girls on MTV wear, that just cover's their asses...kinda.... I found the vidoe offensive.. I did, not on a personal level i could care less. Even though they are called "diva's", and thanks to MTV and VH1 that term has been reduced to meaningless ness. I just thought that the video was offensive to my eyes. all of them were. I am sure you know. I saw a video that only showed a man singing and then a women crotch next to him!!??? no face... no face of a girl on the whole vidoe just their body parts that are most "appealing".( I know that this is not true, that many guy's do not actualy think that) Also with all those teen's screaming in carson's face to see that crap I wondered how he could stand himself. The moral of all this is, that Madona pushes button's, in an artistic way while if we just show skipy clad girls jirating it is ok. Cause of course that is normal. Ok I am sorry, it soured my evening... I sat at home depressed... for many other reasons, but that really started it of good. So I will no longer be watching MTV... except Daria... sigh - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 May 2001 20:24:18 -0400 From: "Marnell, Christina Marie" Subject: RE: npr.. trl...rant... no need to read Firstly, lemme say one thing on censoring videos....Has anyone noticed that in a good percentage of videos that Foxy Brown is in that you can see her nipple? I can name 2, but the one that comes to mind is the Sunshine song that Jay-Z did. If you seen any of her scantly clad, give it a look, usually when shes rolling around in money naked, look close. Secondly, we all long for the "I want my mtv" days. TRL is a joke. Why do you think it comes on at 4 pm? thats when all the prepubscents are outta school. Lil Kim is disgustin (all though i do admire any woman that treats men like sex objects *raises hand "Guilty"* and i cant handle her flapping around in them shorts that you can see right up. Whatever happened to 120 minutes? Good ol matt pinfield telling you how it should be. Now on a sunday night i just turn to late night black and white on cartoon network. MTV sucks, alot of radio stations suck, and if you dont live in a hopping metropolis, well, music sucks. Take back your music my friends! This is a call to arms to demand better music! *apathetically* but then again, since there will always be insecure adolescents, there will always be crappy music. Marnell =) *lays down and dies* I should join the french army. Everyone is constantly telling me to gain weight and I try. I eat all the time It's like a hobby. Also I always hear people complain about their weight and they tell me that It's not fair that I'm so thin, like I can control it or something. Trust me, being thin Isn't all It's craked up to be you always get accused of being bullimic or anorexic and stuff and it gets really annoying. Anyways that's all I had to say. OMG we had such a blast at skinmarket! I was there with like 4 other people from the beginning and were right there when POE was getting her makeover. After a while she went over to her little table and started signing things. It was so awesome! We were right in front just having random conversation with her for like 2hours. The people who were in charge were trying to control us and telling us we had to move along when we got our stuff signed but we were like yeah right and just stood there. they were playing Haunted in the store and a bunch of us were singing along. I'm not going to spoil the surprise that POE told us who were singing so you all are going to have to wait until she downloads the message on her website at that echo place. All I know is, is that I am still super giddy about what she told all of us. When she was signing things some of us got flats of the cover of haunted and SHIRTS that got signed. it was so cool. I was so nervous because this was the first time I ever saw POE like in the flesh and it was the best experience ever because she is so down to earth and just awesome. Ok well I think I left stuff out that I wanted to say but this is too long already so ill shut up. P.S. Hi to all the AP's that were there!
