I was Dork all the way through high school and well into my 20s. Now, for the origin...Webster's made a good call on that one, saying "perhaps aliteration of dick". Dork, though it generally refers to a nerd nowdays, derives from calling someone a "dick". The reason this term came to such use, in New England first since that was the main area for early American whaling ports, is that a dork is actually a colonial whaler's term for a whale's penis...hehehe...no s**t. I saw a pic of a whale lying on its back after doing it with a female, and that sucker was looooooooong...forming a great arc away from the body of the whale and curving untill the end disappeared into the water...and that was a half-softie. So, anytime one of you "dicks" wants to malign the list, remember that we are indeed proud to have a lot of "dorks" among the APs. Border's show we went with our friend, Tim, you may know him as Sid... that was fun :). anyway, enough about that, Rusty was wanting seat-specific info for the DM show. I'm in section 206, I'll be wearing a shirt that says," I'm here to see Poe ". Aronofsky << Yes I saw Pi. Good movie. Same guy who did Requiem for a Dream, I have yet to see that. Hey, I heard that he's doing the next Batman. Someone please say it ain't so. What's next, David Fincher doing the Sequel to Josie and the Pussycats? >> "Requiem" is the most amazing film I've seen in a long, long time. I got the chance to check it out, while in Chicago for the final Pumpkins concerts in November. It comes out on DVD May 22nd and I strongly recommend you all check it out -- well, if you aren't weak in the stomach and don't mind being extremely depressed for a few days. Anyway, main reason I wanted to write back to this...yes, Aronofsky is doing the next "Batman" film and if anything I am DAMN excited about that (also, Clint Mansell will be scoring it). The Batman series was lost after the original (or as I feel Pearl Jam albums go, they just got worse and worse) but was once a very good piece of art. The only bad part I can see about Aronofsky doing a major film is that we'll have to share him with the rest of the world. It's NOT going to be glitz and glam and to expect that is to not give credit where credit is due. Hopefully, if anything, this franchise will be taken back to its roots and take a turn for the strange. Just has stayed with me since I saw it several months ago. Amazing acting, directing, cinematography, editing and soundtrack. Per Batman. I like Tim Burton, but even the first was not all that great (Joker was fleshed out but the parade of different Batman's have been a cardboard joke). I will say that Tim's were much better than anyone elses. Hopefully, Aronofsky can bring character to the forefront, that is Batman's character. Still a little surprised that he's doing it. The big question I have, is does he have final cut on script, casting and edit. Otherwise, he could be in trouble. - -- stephen www.xiveren.com "It can only be attributable to human error" - -HAL - -- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 May 2001 19:37:56 -0700 From: "Tim Dube" Subject: Re: Free POE show Atlanta Anyone in the Western NY area want to go for a road trip???? ;) Ahh Poe road trips once again.... dubious - ----Original Message Follows---- From: "KyL Cobb" To: angry-psychos@smoe.org Subject: Free POE show Atlanta Date: Wed, 09 May 2001 03:50:12 That's right, Boys and Girls... Actually, I was leaning more toward the side of disliking her style than liking it, which is why I hope that Walk the Walk isn't put on the CD sampler-type thing that's in the works. As a person who wasn't interested in Poe, that particular song simply got on my nerves with the "say wha wha-wha wha wha wha wha, wha-wha wha wha wha wha, wha-wha wha wha wha whatcha want" stuff in the background. I don't think it's the type of song that will turn a lot of people on to Poe's music; I think it's the type that you grow to love once you already appreciate her. It wasn't until I began listening to the rest of her albums (reluctantly) that I came to really enjoy Walk the Walk. In fact, as I remember the first time I heard the song--on the radio as I was leaving the Walmart on Thomasville Rd in my white Chevrolet pickup that was soon to be adorned by Marnell's plastic penis--I can distinctly remember thinking to myself, "She sounds stupid."
