The four children attacked were ages 7, 8, 8, 9 . They were all boys. Two were brothers. The assailant was a 33 year old man. Last reports were not that he was drunk, but that he was schizophrenic. All four children are expected to live. The whole story is so horrifying, that I am not going to include details. If you want to read what happened, there are links enclosed. Besides the obvious , there are many reasons I am upset. Our schools here start at 9 am. This school is located in a very poor part of Anchorage. Children are not supposed to arrive to school before 8:45 am. For many families, this is a hardship. There is a breakfast program that starts at 8:30 am , and after eating, the children are allowed to go to the playground with NO supervision. The schools say that parents should not bring their children that early. The parents say that the kids should be supervised . Either way,. there is 15 minutes between 8:30 and 8:45 that no one is taking responsibility for. Who cares who is right ? The point is that there is a problem and no one is taking the responsibility to fix it. I drive my children to school every day. They are not allowed to enter the building until 8:50 .. regardless of whether or not it is -10 degrees outside. I am a stay at home mom, I have the luxury of taking my children to school at the required time. Many parents do not. Get involved with what is going on in your children's school. If you have a neighbor that needs 20 minutes of daycare in the morning .. help if you can. This is a situation that could have been avoided. No one could guess that a crazy man would attack innocent children , but it is rather obvious that children of that age need to be supervised . Stand up for the protection of children. They are our most valuable resource. ~jez A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...But the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a child..... ~unknown Slasher Wounds Kids http://www.adn.com/nation/story/0,2360,264643,00.html Accused attacker has history of offenses , mental disorders, self-mutilation http://www.adn.com/nation/story/0,2360,264641,00.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 May 2001 19:09:01 -0000 From: "monkeygrrl _" Subject: NPR: so what's on your mind? have you noticed how often our conversations drift back to that of uh, the gentlemen clubs? must be cuz none of us have been and are so offended by the mere thought of such, huh? ;P here we are talking about religion and the different symbols that have evolved in many of them, but then somehow bambi at the local club was dancing to rock the casbah? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 May 2001 15:21:08 -0400 From: Sandra Guzman Subject: AP'S GOING TO CONCERT IN L.A...8/14/01 STAPLES CENTER?? Interesting. Although to me, it sounds like this is just a case of a P.I. who got some press from a case he worked on, and is now trying to milk it for all it's worth. Good lord, he's selling shit on it even. That's just sad, imho. I've seen these "perspectives" back when the Curt & Courtney movie came out. I don't put much stock in 'em. But hey, anything's possible. But, in that same respect, it's also very possible that Courtney had nothing to do with any of this. If that's the case, which I personally think it is, don't you think it's unfair that all this stuff is being said. I mean, think of the child. "Hey, your mommy killed your daddy..." etc etc. Yeah, that's gotta make things great for the poor kid. The whole thing just pisses me off. Just to get a round-about of the whole ordeal. I'm not pressuring you to think or feel a certain way about Courtney Love, but you might as well have more than one perspective on it. I will say the site is pretty convincing that there was "something" going on, not saying that Courtney killed anyone, but she was involved in some way. http://www.thegrid.net/tomgrant/index.html http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Birdland/4306/ http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/students/T.Getgood/kwm_page/ The first one is pretty valid, supposedly. It was made by the investigator that Courtney hired around the time of Kurt's death. >Is it just me, or is that just LOW?! It's been this way for 5 years. It's not going to change. Make yr e-mail program filter out NPRs, learn to recognize and delete threads that people have not marked NPR but are, and grin and bear it; the other option (and one I'd hope you'd take) is to fuck off.
