Just go to http://poe.org/email/ If that doesn't work, use http://poe.org/email/index3.html An @poe.org address isn't a brand new mail account, just a redirect. It will forward any mail you get to your current address. Change your e-mail address in your mail program to show it off, but don't change the POP settings that you have. They are two equally strong and dare I even say it ballsy songs, and I think they compliment the album nicely. I am sure I will get flames for this but here goes... I don't think there is a bad song on the album. They compliment it so wonderfully that it is a cacaphony of amazing and beautiful sounds. Take for example, Spanish Doll in my opinion is one of the most beautiful songs on the album, and Haunted is a perfect way to enter into the world of "Haunted" as an album. But I do have a soft spot for Terrible Thought. Don't ask me why I can't even begin to explain. Anywho... I'm done rambling, it's late and I am tired!;) Cheers! Lemon Meringue seems to be part of the shared childhood experiences of POE and her brother MD. Are there parallels in the book? Let's see. There are at least three mentions of lemon meringue in 'House of Leaves.' The index in the 2-color paperback cites pages 258, 320, and 588. The first two are associated with Navy's brother, Tom, explicitly and with Karen implicitly. My guess is that Tom and Navy grew up with meringue as a favorite treat -- perhaps one of their few manifestly common bonds as children. But here's the weird bit: the third reference occurs in one of the letters from JT's institutionalized mother. She also writes, in that same letter, of hot chocolate, which had already occurred in proximity to lemon meringue on page 320. Whether this is part of MD's design or unintentional self-referential repetition is beyond my ability to guess. Whatever, it is clear that hot chocolate and lemon meringue are emblems of motherhood and safety. But while cocoa is a simple pleasure, lemon meringue seeks to create refuge from sour experience in a sweeter, more pleasurable texture. (Of course, Tom also seeks solace in bourbon.) Lemon meringue is a kind of willful contradiction, a denial of grief. Feel free to run with this -- I already have my dissertation topic! So now let's take the advice of POE's and MD's father and listen to the song. Again. ;) Yahoo! I don't like the video concept because it has not a THING -in my opinion- to do with the song, but if some of you find a find a hidden connection, then okay. It's all about perception. Now as for whoever said THIS: <<<"Well, in this same vein; what the hell do broken bridges and being a dolphin have to do with relationships? The mud-wrestling is a metaphor for the sleazy sex.">>> ... you mean to honestly tell me that you can't see what the metaphor of a broken bridge has to do with a relationship.. or the end thereof? The dolphin... I see that metaphor, but I can also see how someone would miss it. But the bridge thing, it's a little obvious if you think about it. Maybe it's because I read a lot more into things than the average person does, but I always thought it was obvious. The mud-wrestling having to do with "sleazy sex" is quite a stretch of the imagination... and since the MTV generation these days have ZERO imagination -(and the imagination they DO have is pre-programmed by the media and Abercrombie, ect)- I don't think they'd get it. ~Joanna~ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 May 2001 20:53:44 EDT From: EMOKidsSmell@aol.com Subject: SOAPS!!!!
