My parents never married, but my dad raised me since I was 2. I have and always will claim him as my dad.. I lost my mom in 99 I think, hell I don't know the years from 97-2000 are a blur. No all that matters is me and my own. The world has changed, the stereotypical family is a dying ideal.. In this day and age, your friends are your family, but you gotta be carefull who you all a friend, that word is often tossed around to lightly. In my life I have aquintences and my friends who are my family. As for your father monica,if he is still a alcoholic and womanizer then forget about him. Mostly, to me, it depends on my moods. I mean, each song does something different yet I can listen to them any and all the time. Sometimes, I even use her music to change my mood. For instance, if I am having a bad day or I am terribly mad I luhv listening to the "Hello" cd. I blare "Choking the Cherry." That song just gets me all rowdy. Days that I am just wanting to relax, I listen to Haunted. That cd is so opposite, to me, of the first. "Haunted" takes me on a journey deep into my mind and I loose myself in memories that arise from songs. From the phone call at the beginning to the "you can go now" at the end Im thinking of how it resembles things in my life. It's funny, I bought the cd for my ex boyfriend when we broke up because sooo much of that cd takes me to him. We were great friends for years and decided to date and things were great..but they went down hill..I don't think you all really want to know bit for bit..but its so hard to be his friend cuz I luhv him sooo much! I wont go to all the songs, but each one carries a bit of our relationship. 5 1/2 minute hallway is the most prominent song, to me. As close as we have always been, and the closer I thought we got, I really felt like he was just sooo far away. Just when I think I find the thing (trick) to make things better I get pushed farther..therefore our gap (hallway) keeps growing. honestly to the point where I am so far away I wonder why were are even friends. So, I'm at the point where Im not his friend. I used "Control" as a way of expressing the way I feel. I don't want to make this terribly long so I'm only gonna use that song. I have to comment on the "Not A Virgin" and "Amazed." Those 2 also run very deep in our relationship. A: the first song can be explained in many ways than the most obvious....he has changed more about me in the past two years than anyone ever has in my life!!! I didn't mention that we broke up once and then dated again..I used "Amazed" as my reason for taking him back. I promised myself that I wouldn't ever date him again..but when it came down to it I couldn't deny how I felt and he tore down that cage around my heart that I had built up that I thought was soo strong! OK, OK, this is waay too long. But I have to say that it is sooo awesome that this cd came out when it did. It was such a great way to express to him my feelings. So, it makes me even appreciate Poe even more. I value her so much and hope she realizes just how much she inspires and helps us all!!! thanks for listening..hope I didnt bore you too much luhv~n~stuff Carri ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Apr 2001 23:28:22 -0700 From: Mike Vaughn Subject: Re: VPR..what she means Hey fellow APs... Poe to me is something far better than I could ever be myself. The first time I saw her was at the Boarders show and I couldn't believe my eye's, right in front of me was a person who wasn't afraid to express there emotions and who could do them in a very beautiful way. She even had the courage to start cryin a bit in front of a group of strangers. I've never been able to express what I feal nor am I even able to explain to myself what it is that I feal most of the time. When I here her sing I can feal the pain, or love or longing in her voice. As of late I've been tryin to document my anguish but I can't in any meaningful way. She is gifted and talented in ways that I can't even start to explain and it pain's me (not that she is these things but that I am none of them) but I know even though she isn't always around her music will be, and that's more than I've ever been able to give of myself. Okay, so I get my jury duty summons. Under the heading: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR JURY SERVICE, I find the following: Q4. be of sound mind and good moral character. How can I claim fault with this and get out of jury duty? I want to claim a faulty moral character - "Hi, I have sex with dead dogs after smoking crack. Can I go now?" And who is the judge of this? Is there a checklist? One of those on-line purity tests? ( I failed MISERABLY, in the high 100's, I think...) And what about the first part? "Hi, um yeah you, toots! I'm A-one fucking batshit crazy. I'm outta here!" Just want to know anyone's opinion of this little loophole! The rest,heathens-followers of lesser religions, will find themselves in a fiery cell in between Hitler and the CEO of Viacom Communications.Or in a fiery cellblock full of fallen Catholics who ate meat on Friday before the pope decriminalized it. What about RUssell Banks' "Rule of the >Bone"? Hey Joel. I've read both "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis and "Rule of the Bone" by Russell Banks. Although I still have not formulated an opinion on the first, I loved the latter. It's long but a really really easy read 'cause it's written like a person talks and it is rather enjoyable. I've been trying to get Akshay (my brother) to read it for the loooongest time but he won't listen. Maybe you can convince him...lol. I haven't heard anyone mention the book "The Power of One." I can't remember the author off the top of my head but it is one of the best books I've ever read in my life. I HIGHLY recommend it. Also, there's "Prozac Nation" by Elizabeth Wurtzel, a great book as well. Fun stuff. ~Ani _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 21:01:22 EDT From: JustSpiffy@aol.com Subject: Re: NPR: Jury's in on Agnosticism <> The dictionary defintion of an agnostic is someone who doesn't believe that there is or isn't a god until it is proven without a doubt. For the record, I was not attacking agnostics when I said wimpy atheism, in fact i think agnosticism is a very valid form of belief. I don't want to seem like I am attacking ANY religion, in my belief ALL religions are inherintly valid and good (unless they involve killing anything larger than a goat) so i apologize if it was taken the wrong way. First of all, Josie had a MASSIVE cheese factor as a cartoon that naturally would be brought about in considerable amount. Think about the music of the cartoon series -- poppy, girly, bouncy teenybopper rock. Frankly, the music from the soundtrack (that I have heard thus far) is actually several steps forward. And didn't you ever see the performance segments on the cartoon? It was a miracle if Josie strummed the guitar more than two times in a second. And the bass-playing? I can't even remember if the bass LOOKED like a bass. So frankly, I didn't expect jack shit from the movie in this respect. I have not seen the film, but frankly, the trailers proved to be much better in these respects than I had expected. And seeing as the girls received their crash-course training at the music camp of Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds, (one of my lifetime musical idols,) I doubt he would let such basics as how to hold a guitar and so forth slip by. Nor would the technical advisors on the film. (These people bust their asses to insure that actors and writers do not come off as bafoons. They follow the Vidal Sassoon creed: "If you don't look good, we don't look good." : ) Of course, "Josie" is no "ER" or "Silence of the Lambs", but it sure as hell wasn't intended to be. It's entended to be a FUN movie. If you're going to see technical musical proficiency and/or mastery, check out "Sweet Dreams", "Coal Miner's Daughter" "The Buddy Hollie Story" or "La Bamba". If these films are too "outdated" for you, wait for the Jeff Buckley film. Maybe due to your age you don't really remember the series very well. (Hell, I'm 28 and I am a good bit fuzzy on it.) But frankly, if they had tried to take the topic any more seriously, THAT would have offended me much more. I mean, sheez... it's based on a freakin' cartoon!
