What up all?
I want to know something from all you APs.
Answer this:
"What does Poe do to your inner workings?"
In other words, "How does her music make you feel?"
Best responses might get a pleasant surprise.

If anyone actually believes that getting the government more involved in
drug traffic than they already are will actually improve things, you're an
all-day sucker. Please. The government could fuck up a wet dream. Yeah,
I'm sure that the local crackhead, shaking and vomiting from withdrawal, is
going to wait until 10:00 tomorrow morning, when the clinic doles out his
daily allotment. Christ. He'll be just as quick to kill someone whether
crack is legal or not, because he's not gonna wait for it. Youre fooling
yourself if you think otherwise.
Thats under your plan, under my plan, crack and all vices would be priced at
a level that makes it frustrating for those in the black market. I believe
eliminating black market activities by controling them is the absolute best
solution if we ever wish to see an end to the violence that is common today.

> I wont even try to defend smoking. I was a smoker for years, and I quit,
because I got sick of coughing up a shitload of money in exchange for a case
of cancer. But Ill say this: Ive never heard of anyone killing a mother
of 5 because they didnt have enough cash for a pack of Marlboros.
I agree, you may not have heard of it, but I'm sure someone has killed for
smokes, AND if they were priced at 10 dollars a pack, which they might be by
next year THAT might be the level where more peple kill for ciggs, maybe its
20 a pack, the point is, take ANY addictive substance, caffine, nicotine,
herion, cocaine, sugar, lol yes if sugar were discovered today it would be a
controlled substance, but thats another story, but take any of those items,
including sugar, and price them sky high, and see who kills for what.
>
> As for drinking, lets think about it: Has it destroyed lives? Sure.
Will it harm your health? Yes, IF you do it to excess, constantly, over a
period of 20 years. Show me a junkie or crackhead that even lives that
long. Besides, at least a moderate amount of alcohol, ingested daily (2
glasses of wine, for instance), is actually good for you. I defy any of you
to show me a study that says, 20cc of high-grade Mexican Heroin, injected
once daily, has been shown to reduce your cholesterol. And there have been
times when I thought a beer sounded really good, but I never killed or stole
for one. Quit with the apples-and-oranges comparisons.
Im not making apples-and-oranges comparions, in case you havent figured it
out yet, I dont really give a shit what you want to kill yourself with,
whatever your drug of choice, more power to you. People been partying
since before recoreded time, it is the nature of the beast, why be in, and
this is a key word, "DENIAL" ? get it through your head, the king is naked,
and no amount of guns, cops, judges, jails, laws, are ever going to change a
thing.
In my eutopia, cops once again walk the streets, and know who is who in the
neighborhood, as people are all done killing and stealing for black market
goods. For those who are addicted, the truth remains the same, the only
ways out are institutions, death, or getting straight. However, I think
under my plan, people who want / need help would get it in numbers that
would dwarf todays exscuse for treatment programs.

> Now, heres my personal beef with weed. It tastes horrible, and it reeks
worse than 36 straight hours in a smoke-filled bar.
Which God bless YOUR America where you can do YOUR D R U G of choice,
makes you what? So bill did you just "taste" it, or did you inhale? And
after 36 hours of pouring alcohol into yourself, YOU must be something
special to catch a wiff of also.
Besides, every big-time pot smoker (by which I mean the wake n bake,
always-stoned crew) Ive ever known has amounted to nothing. They all live
at home, cant hold down a job, and/or are (or have been) in jail. And
dont bother regaling me with tales of great achievers who smoked pot all
the time, because theyre a BIG exception, and you know it. And most people
who make a really big deal out of smoking weed sound an awful lot like that
guy Slater in Dazed and Confused. I dont think you can chalk that up to
coincidence. They also spew the same idealistic shit that you see in the
message below. And I do know folks that are regular smokers, and are happy,
productive members of society who do just fine. I work with some. But I
havent heard a single one of them say a goddamn thing about 420. In fact,
none of them ever even talk about smokin!

You make as much sense as those idiots in china who are making a national
hero out of that asshole who ran his jet into the the propeller of the
american plane. Go on with your illusions of what is right, ignore all of
the obvious suffering, in the prisons, on the streets, all around you, go
ahead, have another nice cold one, enjoy.

Depends on my mood. Wild makes me feel...rightous, somehow. Every single
thing in that song is something my ex did, so its my ha-ha-on-him song. Walk
the Walk makes me feel powerful -- like I /can/ walk my own walk, do my own
thing. Haunted makes me ache. No other word for it. Control is another one
that makes me feel powerful and rightous. It makes me stand up straight and
say, "Who needs men? I'm gonna do what I have to do to open up my store,
take control of my life, and damn the rest!"
All in all, her music makes me feel, period. Right now, when I'm being all
Vulcan, thats a huge accomplishment.

Hey there!! I am new to this list and was answering those questions.
My name is Rita Marie Bass and I am from San Antonio, Texas. I am 22 years
old and was born 9-12-78. I first heard Poe on the Great Expectations
soundtrack "Today" and immediately went out and bought "Hello". I listen to
Tori Amos and a slew of others that I can't really think of right now (maybe
it's too late). I currently work at a day care but we're getting ready to
move within the city so I will be leaving soon. So. . .that's me other than
the fact that I love shoes and clothes and perfume :o). I also love talking
about everything and I really like people :o).

Any more people going to the shows, please email me so I can add you to the list!
As far as AP events at the shows, if you are organizing anything, or want to, let me know... I know Rusty has got plans to have some form of Atlanta gathering... we also have a lot of psychos attending the NYC and San Antonio shows... we have a lot more time to prepare than the 2000 Borders Tour, so let's get this party started!

Personally I don't think that she would appreciate this nonsense. I have

Ok now I'm going to take the time to explain why you are wrong times 110!!
I'm not saying all drugs/any drugs/some drugs should be legal however if
they were some "Crackhead" would be able to go to his local 24 hour grocery
store and get more crack because it would be legal and just like you can go
and get a pack of "smokes" now you'd be able to get crack, or a pack of
joints, etc. However, crack screws up people so bad that even though it was
legal they would not be able to hold down a job to make money to get crack
so in that sense you are correct.
Do I need to start naming off rock stars, hmm a bunch of people in the
rolling stones come to mind right of the bat, that are still alive and
do/did enough drugs for half the planet.
I once took a psychology class and quite a bit of time was devoted to
addiction. Did you know that alcohol withdrawl is WORSE than Heroin
withdrawl in most cases. Of course withdrawl symptoms really have to be
taken on a case by case basis since EVERYONE is different.
Geez by the sounds of your post I'd think you were brain washed by the
government. Yes all "heavy" pot smokers never amount to anything, can't
hold a job, and end up in jail you're right... oh wait no you aren't you
have no fucking clue what you are talking about! I know lots of people who
smoke lots of pot and have kick ass jobs and have had them for quite some
time unless of course they got offered a better job but maybe you were
counting that as not being able to keep a job. And of course there are my
physics major friends who either have graduated or are about to graduate but
physics is easy no scary looking math in that science. I smoke my share of
pot but you're right my job could be done by anyone all I do is keep a
network for 7000 people up and running, I build and maintain a standard
windows NT desktop that the entire company uses, and build and maintain log
on scripts! Hell and that's just my main duties! But you're right anyone
off the street could do that probably even you!!
Or you could just be dead wrong...
Did I mention I love people who generalize a group and decide that everyone
who does something, or listens to said music, or dresses a certain way all
act and think the same.... that must be why everyone on this mailing list is
identical... oh wait once again no we aren't...
guess some people are just ignorant and like it that way... oh well
dubious

I love Poe's music because it opens a very creative place inside of me. I do
all my initial creative explorations for film ideas just driving and
listening to music. I keep a small notebook and jot down ideas when they pop
in. So you could say, Poe is one of my Muses...
The amazing thing about Haunted is I've been creating an story about a women
haunted by her father and dead lover via time travel for a number of years -
and Haunted practically feels like parts of the sound track to the movie...

to avoid an excessively long e-mail, i'll just dicuss the albums as a whole,
rather than song by song. i'm sure every song means something different to
everyone, but that could wind up competing with house of leaves in length.
with both 'hello' & 'haunted', poe manages to strip me down to raw feelings
and emotions, and i don't even mind. tho i become exposed, i do not feel
vulnerable; just the opposite, as a sense of protection is presented. to
use a very overused and cheesy term, grrl power does describe it. a bit of
a 'boys beware' sort of thing. 'you think i'll cry? i won't cry'...we
aren't always the delicate beings of yesterday.
i think 'haunted' hit deeper than the first one tho, only because of the
father/child factor. the little grrl's voice takes me back to being a kid
(well, earlier childhood. i still refuse to ever become an
ad#lt.)and the innocence and complications of saturday morning cartoons and
the dreaded nap time. the father side of the equation is the reverse for me
as was for poe. my daddy has always been there, has always bent over
backwards to do anything he could for me, and verbalized that he was/is
proud of me - yes, he is the most wonderful daddy ever, don't argue with me,
i know this to be true. :) 'haunted' made me realize that not every such
relationship is as nice as the one i have, and made me appreciate it more.
so much for the tough grrl attitude above, huh?
oh, and cuz i find both to be overtly sexual albums... ;)

What the hell is the Chewbaca Defense? Sounds cool... Like some kind ship to
ship combat tactic based on the mating habits of the Wookie.

who respected other peoples' right to exercise sole dominion over their own

with other's equal rights to do the same.
but damn, we've got some really uptight ones here who for some odd reason
got mad, angry, or some other negative feeling about a celebrative post.
someone must've missed the smiley face and message of peace.
but it doesn't matter. we should just chill, guys and gals, please.... it's
all about having fun. let's be civil.
let me tell u guys something. i'm really glad i don't have to interact with
some of the people in this list. that being said, i'm just gonna make sure
everyone knows this isn't directed at any specific individual, but if you
feel this pertains to you, then great. if not, then oh well. perceive this

hope everyone has a great day! =)

No, actually it's from South Park... it was a parody on some of the bizarre
defense tactics attorneys use. Johnny Cochran puts up a poster of Chewbacca
when making his case... I don't remember the exact words, but I think it goes
something like this.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this is Chewbacca. He is from the third
moon of endor. Now what sense does his being here have? None, it just
doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense like the other side's case doesn't
make sense. It just doesn't make sense. Remember jury, if the wookie
doesn't make sense, you must acquit.

There is a major lack of good radio stations in Cleveland...
there is one radio station however, that claims to be "top 40"
i emailed their music director a few times...
they never got a copy of "hey pretty"
and he said "i don't think Poe has a place among Britney Spears and O-town"
well....no she doesn't....however this station also plays incubus and limp
bizkit...and i don't think those groups go very well with o-town and britni
blows either...
They have something called the Hot Eight at Eight....you can vote online and
they have a write in ballot....
If we can somehow hook this station up with a copy of the song, and then vote
the b-funk out of it...we can MAKE them play it....and if they play it...it
would be a huge influence on other stations...as well as the cleveland
area...this station is gaining mass popularity...

let's make Dan Mason regret talking to me like I didn't know what the hell I
was talking about....;)
cmon Psychos...if we can get MTV2 to play the video...this radio station will
be easy pickins...
i'm beggin...

Okay, I know I'm usually quiet but I had to respond to this.
(Sorry if it's long...)
I was a depressed mopey person when I went to go see Poe in DC on the
Borders Tour. I had been recently dumped by my boyfriend of a year and was
absolutely miserable and my mom thought going out and doing something
unusual might be cool. So since it was free and I thought Poe's first single
"Angry Johnny" was cool we hopped on the metro that night and went to DC.
I'd been busy with the play at my school, not to mention all the work and
everything like that. And I get motion sick on Metro but ya know, I thought
for a small free show it'd be worth it, so I got there an hour early,
snagged myself a front row seat, talked to a feminine looking boy seated to
my left and just enjoyed the atmosphere and smiled for the first time in
about two weeks :) Eventually Poe showed up and was standing right next to
my chair for a time which was cool, then she went up on the ministage and
started talking and singing and it was just amazing.
Poe made me forget everything that was bothering me. It was refreshing, all
I could hear was the music and all I could see was the world that her lyrics
created. It was the most amazing feeling in the world, and still is. I had
goosebumps up and down my back, and she smiled at me twice which was just
amazing, it's not everyday someone so wonderful smiles at you :) So
anyways...she talked about "If You Were Here" than started to sing it and it
made me cry but in the best way.
Poe made me feel like I should be grateful for the time that I had had with
my ex, and not be sad that it was over, but happy that I had been able to
experience life with him and for all the things I learned from him and all
the new things I tried because of him. She made me realize there are other
things in the world besides my ex, which at the moment, was a huge
revelation.
Poe opened my eyes.
"When you were here you could not feel the value that I placed on every look
that crossed your face."
I don't know why but it was that line that especially got to me. It made me
realize that I should tell people how I care about them and it was
just...amazing is the only way I can describe how Poe makes me feel.
Even now listening to any of her songs, but especially that one, I feel so
happy and amazed that life can be so wonderful if I choose to make it that
way.
Anyways, if you've made it far thank you for reading :)
